04/15/24 - 2023 Taxes done and sent in electronically to the IRS & state of Illinois. It's time to get my knives sharpened. I brought in a few of my knives a theirs nothing worse or more dangerous than a dull knife. I brought in 2 French Chef knives, 1 butcher knife, my scissors & 1 of my sweated knives. For these knives Northwestern Cutlery charges $5/knife to sharpened them. I haven't had a chance to test them yet but I'm sure they did a good job as I have brought my knives in before. They provide a nice service I was in and out in about 10 minutes. The staff is friendly & helpful. While I was waiting I to a look around the store. There is a huge assortment of knives, cutlery & items needed for the kitchen. There is an area set aside where the guys w/the grinding wheels are working on items people bring in the have sharpened. FYI there is a parking lot in the back for Northwestern Cutlery & the other businesses fqcing Higgins Ave

Nice and sharp! We sharpened a couple of knives here for $4 apiece. It was a quiet period at 4pm on a Monday, and it only took about 10 minutes as there were no other customers. Our knives were sharpened by machines. I clarified with the friendly owner, Donna Colonna, about their wide price range. Some knives may cost $20 as they have to be done by hand - for example some very thin metal Japanese knives. They have only been at this location for 3 years having moved from the Fulton Market district. Many of their customers lived out this way but worked in the city, so she came out this way. She's the daughter of the guy that started this family business back in 1950. I also chatted a little with the two knife sharpeners on duty, Eddie and Israel. They posed for me and were a hoot. FYI, they have a big parking lot in the rear. About 40% of the customers are professional chefs and such, and the rest are lay people like us. Thank you and continued success in your business! We'll probably be back again sometime.

Goal accomplished! To hopefully prevent another trip to urgent care.

I have been here 3 times now. All 3 times at his location on Higgins. I can't say enough about the absolute wonderful job they did not only sharpening my poorly stored and used knives but restoring my mother in laws small cleaver. In addition they have tools and gadgets, chefs whites, butchering tools, salt and pepper mills, bread baking bannetons and of course knives galore!!! Sharpening is very reasonable. So is basic restoration. Plus cool gadgets Than you once again. We will be back.

Really beautiful store, lots and lots of kitchen toys. Beautiful knifes I had them sharpened well I waited . Also a pair of shears. It's a really huge store with a beautiful ceiling . Fun to browse and dream of those knifes in my hands chopping, mincing, julienne. Any how you get the point. Check it out you won't be disappointed when it comes to knifes . And after find joes pizza and treat yourself to a yummy pizza .

Was a bit disappointed that the whipped cream dispenser I purchased yesterday had been opened, as evidenced by the clear circular box seal that had been sliced open. I didn't notice it at the store and only did when I opened the box. I canceled an online order and paid ~$15 more to purchase it here instead. But I needed it, so I decided to keep it since taking it back would mean more contact with the outside world and I wouldn't have time to get it when I wanted it if I tried ordering online at this point. Unfortunately, I noticed that one of the pieces seems to be rusted or something inside, which I'm not sure I can chalk up to the dishwasher since this item is dishwasher safe and none of the other pieces are discolored. Oh, well.

Awesome new location for serious fun shopping for chefs and home cooks. Sharpen your knives here! Great service and they offer parking in the rear. It is the candy store for chefs and for me the toy store for home cooks.

Their motto is the "Candy Store for Cooks" and it feels that way. Sorry to see them leave Lake Street but their new store in the burbs is terrific. Still the best and most affordable to get knives sharpened although they have raised their prices to $4 per knife.

Great recommendation and very happy, price was competitive with what I found online

I've now had poor experiences at two different outlets, each involving different store managers. Most recently, I visited the location this past Sunday, and the experience was honestly appalling. Claire, the store manager, made my wife and me feel completely unwelcome--like we didn't belong there, or couldn't possibly afford what they were selling. Her attitude was beyond rude. It felt as though simply asking basic questions was an inconvenience to her. We left the store feeling disrespected and insulted. What's especially disappointing is that we actually like a lot of the cookware here--we own quite a bit of it. But based on how we've been treated, I'm strongly considering taking my business elsewhere. It also doesn't help that the more helpful employees (like the ones we used to interact with at the West Palm location) seem to be let go, while the arrogant and dismissive managers stay. If this is the company's culture--judging customers based on how they look or what they wear--then they seriously need to rethink their training and values. No one should be made to feel like they're "less than" for walking into a store. Respect and good service shouldn't come with a dress code or a price tag.

A serving of word salad for you, now chopped with a wicked sharp knife!…read more I am someone who believes in the utility of an EDC (Every Day Carry) knife. I have been able to upgrade a closet, open packages, soda bottles, and fix an award plaque, and more, all thanks for my trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I am of the age when many friends are getting married, and I often see knife sets on wedding registries. Here's a $100 cash and a tip that will save you $150 more: just get a good chef's knife, and keep it as sharp as reasonably possible. You may need a bread knife and maybe some steak knives if you plan to do some bbq-ing, but still cannot beat a trusty chef's knife. True to form, both my pocket knife and chef's knife get a fair amount of work. I have a pull through sharpener at home (though it technically hones more than it sharpens). This one is good for some regular 'maintenance' when the edge starts slipping instead of gliding through a tomato, but every now and again, having a professional but a proper edge does wonders. Now, as much as I would love to have a kitchen knife sharp enough to shave with, I also know this would result in a brittle knife that would break as soon as it met cartilage. At the same time, I have seen many reels of knives that can cut paper on the fly. While I found out there is a certain technique to do so, Northside Cutlery was able to get my knives sharp enough to glide through paper. The rates are reasonable at $7/knife, and the turnaround time is fast. Everyone working the shop was kind and friendly as well. While professional sharpening is not something I do on a regular basis, I can absolutely see myself returning to Northside Cutlery for all my sharpening needs.

From the first consultation, design process, and throughout the remodel, we felt we made the right decision to hire Master's. The whole project took about 5 weeks, starting with the demo. It took me over a year to actually sign the contract due to my crazy schedule, but they were patient with me. I wanted to knock down a wall for an open floor plan with a peninsula counter, and Marc and Joe helped me figure out a solution for moving the refrigerator that I couldn't imagine on my own. I loved being able to see their 3D renderings of the proposed designs, especially since I kept modifying my plan. Petar, the contractor was excellent, friendly, and able to accommodate my specific requests to make sure I was satisfied. He exchanged a specific dimmer switch that accommodated what I wanted. Randomly, my toilet handle broke while he was here, and even though it was probably bound to happen to anyone, he went out and bought a new handle and fixed that too (above and beyond)! I wanted to resell my old cabinet set since it was still in very good condition, and they (kudos to Jose, the cabinet guy) removed them from my kitchen and put them aside without damaging anything. They will tell you if you are making a mistake in any of your decisions. For instance I was planning on having a shorter counter overhang than what they proposed. They were very insistent that it should be at least 18" and I figured that 12" would be plenty. Well, I'm happy with what I finally decided, but a couple extra inches might have been better, to Marc's credit, ...so, make sure it's at least 14" in the center! :-D I would recommend Masters Kitchen and Bath to anyone. Just something to keep in mind: They are a one-stop shop and have a decent selection of cabinets, counters, tiles, and hardware. You can select items from an outside source, if there is something else you prefer, but you should at least expect to get the cabinets and counters from them to make this all worthwhile.
