In 2011 I met Rick at the BMWMOA rally in Pennsylvania. Shortly after, I asked Rick to Re-upholster the seat(s) on my 1150RT. He did a fantastic job, including modifications for my wife to accommodate her back issues. Here it is 2025, after adding +65k on the bike (now at +115k miles). Those seats are still going strong. That was one of the best things I did for that bike. I've found it difficult to contact Rick to thank him since then. March, 2012 I went to visit Rick at his property for the "ride-in" service. Rick took time to see how I'm positioned on the motorcycle. He also took my size into consideration to ensure I had the best seat for my riding style. (BMW GS 1200 Adventure) The ride up to his place from the Bay Area was painful as the stock seat was extremely uncomfortable. The ride home was great! All the pressure was taken off the tail bone because of the style of the new seat. Less chafing, and you more like you're one with your motorcycle. About 3 months later, I rode the motorcycle from San Jose to New York City in 4 1/2 days, riding over 700 miles a day consecutively--the seat was so comfortable. I was riding towards Vancouver Island and made an appointment to stop by the shop on a Saturday morning. I had thought that he was in a business area and that I could walk to get something to eat. Unfortunately, or fortunately for me when I told Rick all this he took me over to his house and made me an excellent breakfast! The saddle that he made for my 2004 BMW K1200LT is really nice. It looks good and serves me well when I am riding (comfortable!). Rick is an excellent human being and when I need another saddle for another of my bikes, he's the one that I will contact! read more

I purchased a used Yamaha FJR 1300 (2005) in September 2019. My purchase was done on-line and was a private sale. I live in Newfoundland and found this motorcycle in Kitchener, ON. I made a road trip out of the ride home travelling through Ontario, New York State, New Hampshire,Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and on home to Newfoundland. The previous owner was the 4th owner and didn't know the full history and any upgrades done to the bike. After arriving home and really looking the bike over, I discovered that the saddle has Rick Mayer's sticker under the seat pan. I have owned several motorcycles and do a lot of long distance touring. This saddle is by far the most comfortable I have had the pleasure to ride on. I have contemplated the purchase of an upgrade aftermarket saddle in the past, but never took the plunge. Seat comfort is very subjective and I was reluctant to make the purchase in case it didn't make a real improvement. So, I am now the proud owner of a motorcycle that I love and the comfortable Rick Mayer saddle is a big part of this attraction. If I trade bikes, I might be calling Rick! read more

Site claims "....handmade motorcycle touring saddle." That gives one the impression that there is focused care that goes into each seat. Not my experience. The day I went, he had 8 appointments, not much time for focus on any given seat. As a result, the seat cover did not adhere to underlying foam and the original backrest pass through that was very clean first looked like a moose orifice. Had to ride up to Red Bluff (440 miles round trip) again to get it fixed. This time the adhering problem was fixed and a different amateurish solution for the back rest pass through was done. I mean for the same price Corbin has a uniform flap that looks professionally executed, the flap covering the pass through on my Rick Mayer seat looks like it was done without regard for uniformity. The flap is rectangular, but cut such that the lines are not straight. He claims that he cannot give the similar original look without redoing the whole seat. Why he didn't duplicate the original never was discussed. Finally, the seat cover at the gas tank began to peal back and expose staples that were not secured properly so that the cover is beginning to come off the seat pan. I fixed that myself rather than accept his offer to ship my seat back. Finally, in another spot the staples began to give way exposing the underside of the seat cover. This after going there twice and paying more than I would for a Corbin seat. To be fair, Rick did agree to let me either drive to his shop for a 3rd time (440 mile roundtrip) to get it fixed or mail it to him.
