Then he wants a 50% depost on a job he is literally putting out money for nails on. Told him law is 10% or $1000, whichever is less. The number he gave for the job was just under three grand, again - not sure it was for the WHOLE job, as the square footage he listed was off by about 400, and did not delineate by rooms -but when i told him law is 10% and I'm not giving him 50% down (in cash no less) he got real ugly. Look, the guy is 80 years old, has cancer, just got out of the hospital, and everytime I spoke with him and asked how he was doing his answer was "not good" - so no, you absolutely are not getting $1500 for a job to start in five weeks . . . he stated he doesn't do this full time anymore, only occasionally - so why the five week lead? Between Lumber Liquidaters (same company they just chaged the name to throw folks off) and this guy - I'm starting to see a pattern regarding hardwood floor installers here. Luckily I dodged a big, expensive bullet, with minimal grief. This time.

It was the worst experience we have ever had with a service provider. Don't let his kind demeanor fool you, if you speak up and question the lack of communication or workmanship during the build process he will turn on you. We caught numerous errors (incorrect siding, items painted instead of stained, attempted double charging for items already included on the purchase agreement, ignoring materials/communications sent months in advance for installs, etc.). We shrugged most of it off assuming it was a normal part of the process, however, right near the end when flooring went in (it was cut far short & looked like whomever laid it had been drunk) we expressed frustration and Dan called a meeting at the house. We walked in to find him, his two children, two floor layers, and the realtor standing in the kitchen. Instead of the professional conversation we were expecting, we were verbally attacked and berated. He said we were the worst clients he's ever had & he could not believe we were questioning his quality. He said we should be grateful and thank him and that we didn't know how hard it had been for him to find contractors due to COVID. He proceeded to tell us that he didn't need us in order to finish the build, he could sell it without us, and that we could take our earnest money and walk. He wrote the check and that is ultimately what we did. Heartbroken and only 3 weeks away from closing we had to tell our little children that our new home was no longer ours. We actually had to buy back our old house thanks to Dan's realtor, Daryl B with KW Realty. Beware if you choose to use the dual agent realtor, he will side more with Dan, the builder, than you. He didn't even speak up when while we were being scathed. Now we have to see our custom house with everything we designed and chose for sale on the open market. Overall we lost our home, a good interest rate, and had to pay someone to stay in our old home. It was an absolutely horrible experience and we're still broken up about it. If we could leave zero stars we would.

I've used Mike Mutterer on numerous projects over the last 10 years. In 2004 I used him to build a…read moremaintenance free deck and 2008 he finished my basement with a family room, bedroom and a sweet bathroom. The bathroom was mostly limestone tile with a walk-in shower that was amazing. Mike has also designed and built custom bookshelves and a set of mudroom lockers for my kids. Lastly, he build a bar for my man cave. Mike always takes my ideas and has the experience and ideas to make them even better. Solid work and follow through each time.
