I love supporting local bookstores, so I didn't even try to resist when I saw this store in…read moreRedmond. I'm so glad I stepped inside! It's bigger than I thought it would be, and the books were incredibly well curated. I had a hard time deciding what to buy, but was really happy with the book that I found (Mobituaries by Mo Rocca) because its cover was facing me. This store also has a nice selection of gifts, especially puzzles. The owner is very friendly, and there's even a bookstore cat!

The owner (you'll know him by the majestic beard and Jedi-like calm) has created a space that feels more like the clubhouse of a literary wizard than a traditional store. My kids regularly burst in with chore money and vague intentions ("I want a cool book... or maybe a weird trinket... or both?"), and he always helps them find something they're excited about--usually tossing in a friendly discount and a bookmark like some benevolent book dragon guarding his hoard of stories and treasures. Then there's the store cat. Friendly. Regal. Frequently seen offering her belly like she's your new best friend--until she suddenly decides you've overstepped and smack, you've been chosen for sacrifice. My youngest considers her a highlight of every visit. Herringbone has an eclectic and well-curated mix: books (of course), LPs, mildly offensive candles that make great gifts (for the right people), a fun kids' corner with books and toys, and the owner is always happy to order something if it's not in stock. It's our go-to spot for birthday gifts, random literary whims, and just plain cozy vibes. Highly recommend. Just don't be fooled by the cat's exposed belly. You've been warned.

Every time we visit Sisters, we have to visit Paulina Springs Books at least once or twice. Since…read moreour last visit, it looks like they either expanded or repurposed part of the store. There's now a huge space with tables, chairs, and games. It's an open invitation to the community to come in, relax, and have a little fun. Another thing I love about this bookstore is that staff members handwrite notes about books they enjoy and attach them to the books. It's a thoughtful touch that helps connect the right readers with the right books. Near the checkout, I also noticed a sign reminding dog owners about the dangers of hot asphalt. It's a simple reminder, but it speaks to the community-minded spirit that seems to be woven throughout the store. Will we be back? Of course. A trip to Sisters isn't complete without a visit to this community bookstore. If you found this review helpful, give it a like so it can help others discover one of Sisters' true gems.

They've got sections of every category, like children's, young adult, etc. with the genres clearly labeled. I liked how they had everything organized. They had a section of used books as well, and a small children's play area. In addition to books, they sell board games and playing cards. We bought a deck of cards and a small book for my daughter.

Bookstores exert an almost magnetic pull on me and there are times when I lose all sense of time…read moreand can be lost for hours browsing the shelves. My favorites are the small town bookstores with a staff that isn't shy about making suggestions. This store is located on the main street in Sisters and has a solid collection of used and rare books and maps. They scored major points because not only was the staff helpful, they had a used paperback I've been trying to purchase for FIVE years. Thank goodness that search is finally over.

Not all books stores are made the same. Lonesome Water Books is number two on my list of all time…read morefavorites. It's not big, it's not grand. It doesn't take three days to go through, but the quality of used books here is great. The place is just so neat, so clean so well organized that you can't go wrong. The quality of the used books is also top notch. They appear to buy only the best so they can offer the best. I also must say that the prices are not what you would expect from that type of quality. They are very comparable to the other used bookstores that I have reviewed and I have never put a book back on the shelf because I thought it was too high priced. The staff here is 10 stars and very helpful. The most helpful I have met at any bookstore ever. Lonesome carries a great amount of antique and collectible books also, for the really deep treasure hunter. I enjoy stopping here every time I travel through Sisters Oregon. Check it out if you're in the area. I have few words to say about Lonesome Water Books. The store really speaks for it's self. 5 stars across the board on this one! Awesome store!
