The thing is..well...that's just about ALL there is to see. Maybe 4-5 stands. I mean..I can count all the vendors on one hand. But I tell you what. I picked up 2 basil plants from the fantastic local farm stand here. OMG. These are the best basils that I have EVER known. No exaggeration. They survived the road trip back to TN and just a month later they are fragrant, lush and growing STRONG. I'm telling you these Alabama Basils are the real deal. There IS a difference with these plants! Very impressed. For that reason alone, I'll always think happy thoughts of this teeny tiny Flo-lauderdale farmers market.

First Monday started in July 1893 and has happened every month since, rain or shine, sleet or snow…read more It is held every Saturday and Sunday before the first Monday of each month. You can find anything and everything at First Monday, from antiques to designer clothes, pedigree puppies to black & tan hounds, BBQ, footlong corndogs to Gyro Sandwiches and everything in between. If you can stand the humidity you can leisurely walk around and peruse hundreds of vendors' wares. A lot are hand-crafted items, from canned foods to porch swings. There is never a shortage of colorful feathered animals to admire. I once helped raise chickens, turkey, pheasants and peacocks on a ranch in Ripley. It seemed as if every month I had a new batch of birds brought in from First Monday to gradually add to the flock. I do not handle heat at all so I don't go to First Monday. The last time I did go recently, I remember noticing that it had grown exponentially since seeing it during my childhood. I have relatives that still set up every month. First Monday draws in 1000s of locals, as well as, visitors from the Tri-State area. Anybody that has "hagglin'" coursing through their blood has been here.
