THIS IS THE BEST HIDDEN GEM IN PUERTO RICO!!!! Period!!! This is the only spot we revisited on our trip (three times, by the way!). Unassuming on the side of the highway, Rico Pan serves the best sandwiches we have ever had. The staff were beyond friendly and patient with our bad Spanish. On our first visit, they took the time to explain the sandwiches, the ingredients, the bread, and help us order what they would recommend as the "best" options. My absolute favorite sandwiches of the trip were ordered here. My favorite of the favorites was the Cuban sandwich... wowowowow, I think of it at least once a week. We're so grateful to find this place since we're staying at the Wyndham up the block. Didn't want to spend $40 each day for breakfast at the resort. The ladies behind the counter are all so wonderful, patient taking our big orders. The egg sandwiches are delicious made with fresh bread and butter. Carrot cake was not overly sweet and you can taste the nutmeg. Coffee was delightful. They even have alternate milks. We enjoyed it so much we came 3 times. It's worth the $10 taxi from resort. This place was ok! We had had a lot of fried food in Puerto Rico up to this point so this was a nice change of pace. The sandwiches were decent and maybe a little on the dry side but the hot sauce at the table helped with that. Honestly it was a pretty decent meal on the lighter side so we didn't feel weighed down afterwards. The coffee was decent too. We chose to avoid the exorbitant prices they charged at the hotel we were staying and had an excellent breakfast for a quarter of what we would have paid at the hotel. I ordered what is my personal favorite breakfast sandwich which ids the mortadella and cheese sandwich with a coffee, my girlfriend hat the oatmeal and we also had several bacon, eggs and cheese sandwiches. To top it off we had a sugar donut which always ends our breakfast when we are in Puerto Rico. This is the type of place where you order your food at the counter then you can sit at one of their tables to eat or you can just take it home. What a gem!! I was staying at the Margaritaville Resort in PR. At the bottom of the hill was Rico Pan. We decided to try it out for lunch. We stepped into the restaurant and my attention immediately focused on a wonderful selection of bakery items. Remembering that I was there for lunch I decided on a turkey and cheese sandwich. The roll was delicious. They bake it fresh everyday. My hubby and son both had the #1 Rico Pan sandwich which had multiple selections of meat like ham, beef and turkey. A friend from home actually recommended another bakery in Rio Grande with more reviews, but the person I was traveling with wanted to go to this one, so I figured why not. Thank GOD they made that decision, because this ended up being the spot we came back to for their signature sandwich. You know it's good when there's a line outside, and while this may be because of COVID times, this is the first time it was worth it in Puerto Rico. The people behind the counter were quick and sweet with the service. The first time we visited, we got the Ricopan, a bacalaito, an empanada de res, two OJ's, and a small cup of coffee with milk. The Ricopan was definitely the standout -- so good that my friend told me to stop talking so she could enjoy it more. "I'm not joking when I say this is better than 50% of the sex I've had", she said through closed eyes, savouring every bite of the sandwich. The bacalaito and empanada were fine. We came back the next day again for the Ricopan sandwich, the Tripleta, a donut, and a pineapple pastry (Danish?). The Ricopan, once again, slapped like no other, but the Tripleta, while good, was no comparison. The donut was fair, and the pineapple pastry we never actually tried. I will continue to think about this sandwich for the rest of my life, and I may just plan another trip to PR just to get it, it's that good. read more

Once you get past the outside "sketchy" look, I give you my word you won't be disappointed. Recently, I went to PR on a weekend work trip and for three days, Rico Pan Bakery was my "go-to" breakfast bakery. Prices are ridiculously low, breakfast is prepared at the moment and the coffee is legit, Puertorrican-style coffee. Flavorful with a nice kick. Employees are friendly, even though they are on the "go". This place gets a lot of traffic so be ready for a semi-long line, but with fast service. Food is prepared at the moment (unless you are having lunch from the cafeteria, which is still fresh and warm) so expect at least a 5-10 minute wait. I would say that for the great food at a great price, a 10 minute wait is nothing to worry about. Enjoy your meal! read more

I do not understand the rave about this place. It is expensive. Watch out for your receipt. The price in the board in the wall is NOT the same you get at the cash register. When I came here for breakfast two weeks ago I was charged $14 for 2 coffees and 1 ham, egg, cheese and salad sandwich, when the day before in another place (better by the way and more selections) I ordered 2 sandwiches plus 2 coffees and paid less than $10 for both. The salad in the sandwich was not regular lettuce but cole slaw and a small thin slice of tomato. When I confronted the cashier and asked how much the sandwich was she told me $6???? At the wall says $5. I regret 1000 times giving them the additional tip. Will not recommend coming here for breakfast or anything else. Sorry for the tourist who comes here thinking they are getting a big deal. I still have the receipt in case they decide to be funny with my card. read more
