First time ever doing an escape room but it was pretty fun! We did the maroon island room. The puzzles were challenging but fun. I went with just my husband but I think it would be easier if you go with more people- our room assistant guy was fun and made the whole experience so much better! This place was awesome. I was a little apprehensive about going to any Escape Room thinking it might be "scary". (Somewhat similar to a Haunted House type thing during Halloween). (Idk television had me nervous haha). Anyway, after reading about all the different themes and how every one of them is "family friendly" & as the website describes the room we chose , It's "non-frightening adventure". "Just mysterious". I decided it would be a fun date night activity for my fiancé and I to do with another couple. Since 3 of the 4 of us had never done any kind of Escape Room before, we started off a little slow, but once we realized what we needed to be paying attention to, we got the hang of it & had a blast! Our tour guide, Nikki#2, (apparently there are two named Nikki lol) was great! She was funny and started making jokes to help us with a couple of our clues. We had such a great time we are planning our next one in a couple weeks. This escape room was really well put together and laid out. They made us think and guided us at the right times when we got stuck. We did this as a family outing and it definitely brought us closer together. Our game master, Ziah, was fantastic! We had a great time and the room was very well organized. This was my first time doing an escape room. My friends and I were in town for NYE week and decided to check this place out as an afternoon activity. I recommend making your reservations online so you get the time slot you want. Upon arriving, we just had to wait for a few minutes before we were taken to the back and explained all the rules. We chose to do the hotel escape room which is timed for an hour. The rooms were great and kept us on our toes. Their clues were somewhat hard and we had to ask for help a couple of times. In the end, we were able to escape with less than 5 minutes on the clock. It's a great team bonding activity and we all had a great time. read more

Fantastic! This is the third escape room I've been to (the other two in Tampa Bay Area) and this room was so superior. Our group of 7 took over maroon island room and we were immediately greater by a woman who was so warm and welcoming and into character that we couldn't help but smile. I won't give away the secrets to the room but there were dozens of puzzles and the theme was so well played (pun intended). The island theme took over every aspect of the game and the puzzles. The art on the wall was amazing and there were tricks that are above and beyond the best escape rooms (think trick doors and good use of technology.) The tips were readily available and useful and the staff wasn't reluctant to step in and help. I was impressed and my only possible complaint would be that the room wasn't large and one of our players needed to sit throughout the game and seemed to always be blocking a clue. But, real estate is a prime here so I get why it's small. The other players suggested a bit more clarity of the end of the game and that one clue leads to another but I thought it was pretty clear. Every single person said they would want to play again and we loved the facility and the folks there. They knew every clue inside and out and when we tried to tip- we were declined. So we did two rooms on separate days: Marooned Island and the Hotel. Both rooms were pretty fun and well designed. The fact that they made most of their puzzles and designed their rooms is something rare to find. We beat both rooms, but I didn't feel they were easy. I wish we lived closer so we could try the VR room(it's space!!!!). I can see why this place is at the top for the area. Thanks for the great time, you guys! Super awesome and fun escape rooms! We had done an escape room through a different owner the previous day and were super disappointed, then we went to Riddles to do their hotel escape room and it was amazing! Our host and game master were super helpful, friendly, and in character the entire time! We loved it so much we came back to do their steampunk car themed room. Both were amazing. Whether you're visiting SC or a local, I highly recommended visiting Riddles if you love escape rooms or are wanting a great first experience! read more

My family came here during our family vacation. We have been to a few escape rooms in Charlotte and have enjoyed them. The problem with this escape room is that there was wayyyyyy too much going on at one time. It's not like there was one clue that went to the next and so on. There were random clues that didn't go together. Our guide had to come in the room too many times to help because things with the black light didn't work or some locks wouldn't open with the correct code. He would also stop us while the time was still going to talk to us about what we have already solved which wasted some of our time. A lot of the numbers for clues didn't match up because there were too many all at one time. This place was definitely not worth the $25 per person. Maybe $10 and that's pushing it some. read more

A truly enjoyable experience with these really nice people. Being a veteran of two previous escape room experiences, I had a good idea of what to expect going in. You're placed into a themed room with a number of other people and challenged with getting out within an hour by finding clues, solving puzzles and opening locks. Our team of six cleared the room with five minutes to spare. The puzzles and clues were creative and challenging at a variety of levels and everyone contributed in one or more of the needed solutions. I came with a group of girls for a bachelorette party and did the Cars Steampunk Mansion Room. We had a blast! We could tell that they put a lot of time and effort into the clues and the ambiance of the room. The clues were cleverly connected to the story. I still can't believe that they handmade all of the clues. I love how the clues were very interactive... much more fun than other escape rooms I've done where you need to solve a puzzle to get a key or combination. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Riddles escape room is the right mix of puzzles and fun. The puzzles are smart and not overly frustrating. Each room has a great design and makes you feel like you are really trapped in that bizarre location. The best one is the marooned island escape which has some wonderful surprises that you will have to see. The house of CARS is a quick runner up. Great experience! I was leery to spend nearly $100 for one hour of entertainment for the kids, but they REALLY wanted to do an Escape Room. Finding one that was family-friendly proved to be a bit of a challenge as most found online seem to be horror or adult themed. Riddles got our business because they were more reasonably priced than some of the other possible options we considered. I was pleased with Riddles Escape Room from my first phone conversation with Captain Dan, all the way through to the end of our adventure. My three children (8, 10, 16) all enjoyed the pirate-themed adventure we embarked on. This is a family-owned business, and Captain Dan showed care for their customer's experience. It was a positive, enjoyable evening, even though it went by quickly. Clues were readily available, only when needed or 'earned' in the game. Puzzles were challenging, yet not impossible. EXCELLENT! My family and I have been different escape room locations, and this was definitely a top location. Challenges seemed just hard enough that it took some thinking and searching to find the right combination/items. Staff were very friendly and in character which was a good extra element. I also felt as if they were very attentive to our progress -they make it clear that they watch through cameras but some places use it more as a liability concern than anything. Marooned and Grand Strand Hotel! Both an absolute blast and a perfect way to spend an afternoon of team building with work friends or with family. Penny was exceptionally accommodating and Devin (with his steampunk eye) was so awesome! If you're looking for a fun activity in Myrtle Beach, this is so different and such fun! We've done a escape rooms in Myrtle Beach every year for the past 3-4 since we always vacation here. This is by far the best escape room we've been to. We even went twice in a week to try another room. The staff are great and friendly. The rooms are well put together and we had a ton of fun!
