I save the word "magical" for places that truly deserve it. Tantivy Farm is one of those places…read more This magical place is one where you can walk through lavender fields, eat lavender ice cream, shop for lavender products, and meet some farm animals. It's a family-owned farm run by super nice people, and it's a great place to visit when you're in the Lexington area. You can explore more than a thousand lavender plants of 20 different varieties here. I visited during the off season, when the lavender bushes were spent and dormant, but there were a few sprigs here and there, and even so, the rest of the garden was lush and beautiful. If you want to experience the lavender fields in full bloom, you'll want to visit in late spring through summer. Around the end of May to the end of June is when they do U-pick lavender, where you can pick your own lavender bouquets. The owners also produce and sell lavender products, dried and fresh wreaths, lavender food (including lavender ice cream!). Friendly farm animals also live on the farm, and you might be able to meet and greet them. These are the most content and happy animals I've encountered maybe ever. Could it be because they live on a lavender farm and they're absorbing the calming vibes of this medicinal plant? Most likely it's because the owners are super awesome and treat the animals like family. It's great to see. The farm is open May to December.

Very friendly. Great views. Wonderful ice cream. More lavender than I have ever seen.read more

There was "a lot to do," but for me, the "staples" of a fall festival were missing... no corn pit,…read moreno barrel train for the kids, no hay ride, and no big stacks of hay bails to climb on. Nothing to bounce on. Pony rides are $10 each which seems a bit much. I like that there were big slides, there was a cute obstacle course and mini maze, and some other random things like tug of war and tetherball. For the age ranges of my kids (2-8), it felt meh compared to some other places I've been more in the Hampton roads area. We don't do the large corn mazes l due too the kids ages, they just get bored, so my suggestion would be to have a separate cost for corn maze. For reference, wood ridge farm brewery has a sand-filled playground, corn maze and a petting zoo for a bit cheaper... they do have a train, hay ride, and bounce house, but it all costs extra. I guess you can't have it all.

They had it all, from apple cider (cold and hot!), apple cider donuts, ice cream, and fresh squeezed lemonade to a pumpkin patch and oodles of kids activities (slides, hill rolling, corn pits, apple sling shot, corn cannons, an epic corn maze, farm animals, pony rides and more). Need a pumpkin? Pick one in their patch! If you're looking for an idyllic fall festival, look no further but be warned that your kids won't want to leave! It is also dog friendly and we never had a long wait for a bathroom or any of the activities. At night they have movies and fire pits with s'mores kits.

The wine tasting was nice. With large parties you are given a flight to try. No need to stand in the tasting room. I liked several of the flavors. After the tasting we took a walk around the grounds taking in all the animals. Because it was winter, we didn't spend a lot of time in the lavender fields. We did however visit the lavender shop. I purchased a lavender honey spot and some delightful lemon crunch lavender ice cream. Overall staff were friendly. I would recommend this business for anyone in the area or visiting massanutten.

You really get to enjoy an immersive, interactive experience on the farm. There is something for everyone, from interactive gardens and live animals. The best for a cute little DIY wine tasting. You can bring your own charcuterie platters, which is what we did to go along with our tastings. They have tasting room called the Purple Wolf Vineyard where you can purchase your portable tastings, wine, beer and slushy flights . I would definitely return again, great place to host a cute birthday event, with your friends. They also have a really nice gift shop as well.

The sessions involve going around to different stations based on ages of the goats. They also invite local artisans and food vendors - we got a beautiful wooden cheese board. They also offer samples of their cheeses as well as tubs of goat cheese to purchase. The truffle goat cheese is AMAZING! NOTE: Currently, the sessions are on pause due to COVID19, but I just want to give a shout out to the amazing work they put into this farm, caring for their goats, and their cheese making! As of March 2020, they are doing pre-order and pick ups for their cheeses - be sure to look at their websites for locations to grab this delicious local cheese and farm!

The farm is set in a beautiful hilly area with trees and rolling meadows. There are goats, chickens, peacocks, and the friendliest shaggy dogs you will ever meet. Wear boots or sneakers that you can lose to mud, and dress in layers. There is a very clean port o potty and a sink hooked to a (very cold!) well, so you can wash your hands. You will leave covered in hoof prints, fur, and animal slobber. I cannot speak to the locavore dinners held at the farm, but I would love to attend one. The owner is well travelled and versed on international cuisines, and she speaks with great fondness of other local producers. The farm's cheeses are incredible. My personal favorite is their black truffle chèvre. They also make delicious logs with herbes de Provence and pimento cheese. Their aged goat Parmesan is amazing. The cheeses are not strongly flavored of "goatiness"--I understand that is achieved by keeping male goats away from milk-producing females. All the cheese is delicately flavored, and the hot chocolate created for one of the snuggling days that I attended was decadent and divine. (I usually shy away from non-savory goat dairy products because of strong goaty flavors.) I highly recommend Caromont Farms. Be aware that there is virtually no cell reception at the farm.
