Whether for birthday parties, camp or just the playground we are here quite often and my kiddo loves it. The playground is never too crowded and though it's part of the rec center there is no membership needed. For those that are members or want to do a day pass they also have an indoor pool and splash pad play area. The splash pad is fun but the individuals they choose to monitor it really deter from the whole experience. The other weekend we were there and my daughter and two friends were playing Barbie's and decided to wet their hair. No throwing them or anything wild just wet their hair. A woman first approached one of the girls (a 5 year old) and sternly told her that was not allowed. Which in and of itself was not acceptable. Kids being kids they went again to wet Barbie's hair and along came the same woman, only this time she confronted the mom. The mom said she'd stop it and asked the woman if in the future she would not address issue directly with her child rather come directly to her. She pointed out the tone of the woman voice used ti speak to children to which the woman stood there and begun confronting the mom. Stating repeatedly this is my voice and I'm not shouting. We all stayed calm and simply asked her to walk away. She repeated herself a few more times before walking back to her chair. All that being said, apart from the overwatch at the splash pad it is a fun place to take the kiddos. read more

Lady at the front desk did not allow entry for the bathroom because I wasn't a member (I'm Hispanic), meanwhile my wife (she is Irish) went in with no problem a second before I went in. We were considering becoming members but after this encounter - no way! read more

Been a long term member, but in December hip was very painful and could not go to gym. Had hip replacement surgery on Feb 6. Now Phy therapy gives me moderate exercises to do. Off to the Rec Center. Could not enter gym as card not working. Off to front desk as card/membership does not expire until April. Young lady at desk, Mar 12, 2017 checks computer & tells me I expired Feb 1?? She (Rec Center employee) then starts waiting on other people. I stand & wait with cane in hand. She still talking to other people, I left my card on desk and exited the facility. Wow if busy, then tell long time member to go to gym and we can fix membership question later when front desk not busy. No that does not happen, this now ex long term member is put to back of the line and is ignored. This is service? read more

We have been going to the rec center for about a year as a family - first as recreation level then as full family membership that includes everything. The facility is clean, and the folks are for the most part pretty nice and helpful. We use the pool, gym, locker rooms, etc. (I haven't taken many classes so won't comment on those). Childcare area is clean, staff friendly, and my kids enjoy going there. The afterschool program and stop and go has been a nice perk too my kids have enjoyed. My only complaints since moving here - no childcare on Sunday, no towel service, and many of the cardio machines don't have their own TVs (you can watch/listen to one of the 4 TVs hanging in the room...but limited to what is showing on those TVs only). Those 3 things would make this 5 stars for me. FYI - regarding the comment/complaint below that children aren't allowed in the exercise area and nicer adult locker rooms - to each their own - but to me this is a plus (and my other gym also had adult only, nicer locker room too). I have young kids...so I get the "hassle" of having to use the not-as-nice locker rooms when your kids are with you...BUT as a busy mom - when I work out- that is my little "me" time I have so I enjoy having a child-free area (gym, adult locker room to shower, etc). So for me - this is a perk of rec center and when I look for a gym in general. read more

Oooh, not a good review. I had to speak with 5 different people to try to get Wellness services, which of this date I have not received. I paid for these services, but 8 days later I have received none of these at all. All the Recreation Center people I spoke with gave so many, and so varied, excuses and "not my responsibility" responses that I wonder about the lack of ownership and service. read more

Wow, not sure I understand all these negative reviews. The rec center is awesome. Im happy with front desk and cleanliness of facilities. Clean friendly and plenty of room. Rarely if ever had to wait for equipment in gym, the trail outside is wonderful (pretty & flat-ish & an accurate distance). The kids facilities look great but that's not what I use or know about. The pool is clean (only 25ft, the usual), not crowded most of the day (and if crowded the lifeguards are great at arranging the circle swim for those of us unlikely to wait ). Most times only 1 or 2 in each lane. We re spoiled. Great steam bath. Hot tub can be hotter, pool can be cooler , and sauna just hot. But après workout great to use. Great tools in gym ... hour long treadmills with uphill and down hill! Stair master! Assisted pull up for us weaklings. I see all sorts of classes /parties/ straps cycling/ yoga/ weight watchers .... seems like quite the hub Of community activity. Even the Founders Hall is next door for us geezers. Good parking (why do we look for close spots when we are here to workout?). Best part is nice folks and you can get in and out quick and safe OR be social. GREAT price for resident$ ! read more

Very unfriendly front desk, especially the man on night staff, wow, so rude and condescending. The facility is clean. For goodness sakes, get rid of the JUNK FOOD in the hallway machines. Ridiculous idea and the kids begging for junk food after their classes is soooo difficult to observe. Do the people who come to work out and enjoy themselves at your center a favor and get rid of those machines. Offer something healthy. Giant candy bars and greasy, fattening snacks at an otherwise healthy place is just wrong, not to mention the sugary drinks and sodas. read more

We were members of this Rec Center for a year and before our membership had to be renewed, we were anxious to disconnect from it. The positive side of this rec center is that it has good quality facilities; however, there were so many negative points, that we left despite the convenience of having a rec center near home. Firstly, there are too many rules that are family unfriendly. If you're a member for all services, you have the right to use the gym/pool locker and use the sauna and jacuzzi pool, but if you have a child, your child (or teenager) cannot accompany you into this locker or the gym area. Therefore, even if you're paying for it, you still have to use the regular locker if you're taking your child to the pool. Children or teenagers cannot enter the gym. The exercise classes such as pilates and the like were interesting at first, but then I realized every single lesson was basically the same with very few variations if any. That got boring and I lost interest in repeating the same exercises every day. We have been swimmers since childhood and have gone to pools all over the world and other US states (we move a lot), but never in my life have I been to a pool with such poisonous levels of chlorine! After swimming there, I was intoxicated with excess chlorine in my lungs. One could see and smell chlorine gas evaporating from the water surface, not the usual chlorine smell from a pool, and I assure you this is not an overstatement. After taking a shower, I could not smell anything else for the whole day because my nose buds were saturated with chlorine and I could feel my lungs saturated. I tried to speak with the manager, a complete idiot who had no idea and no interest in making things safe and comfortable for the center's members. Staff at this rec center can be friendly or not, but any friendliness ends when you need to speak with them about an issue. Nowadays, I drive half an hour to swim at a private pool in Norwalk. Over there, the chlorine in the pool is of an acceptable level and will not leave one's lungs saturated with gas. The facilities there are nice, the beautiful pool is of olympic size and of perfect temperature, you're provided with towels, shampoo and conditioner and even props. And guess what! It's cheaper! read more
