The taste and quality of all of the items was also fantastic! Sarah's order form was one of few that let us fully customize our order from selecting what types of cheeses we wanted to letting us do "pepperoni only" as we aren't huge ham or salami people. She included a great variety of items as well! In addition to the charcuterie box, we also got two small containers of pickles and a box of breads, crackers, cookies, chocolates and chocolate covered pretzels. After reading so many positive reviews, I succumbed to a groupon for the walking tour. If you buy…read morethe groupon, you get a great deal for 2 adults to take the tour, as well as a $10 credit at their farm store. Once you take a look at their store, you know there's no way you could leave here empty-handed. They sell steaks and chops from every farm animal you can think of, as well as fresh eggs and Amish butter rolls and aged raw milk cheese, and even kombucha. There is a clever young boy behind the cash register, and he will persuade you to buy everything in stock. Their items are very reasonably priced for grass-fed/free-range/happy meats and dairy products, especially when you're tired of paying too much at Whole Foods for lesser quality and freshness. If you have a genuine interest in learning how a farm works, then you would enjoy taking a tour here, as it's very informative. The manager, Amy, is a wonderful tour guide. She is very patient and will answer everyone's questions. We learned about how they rotate their farm animals to improve soil quality, and about what and how they feed the animals. I wouldn't recommend bringing kids here unless they are extremely interested in farms, and are very patient. Otherwise, they will be bored to tears and will ruin the fun for the farm dorks, like me. If you think this is a petting zoo, it's not. You will see plenty of farm animals running around and/or freely grazing, but it's understood that they don't want folks chasing those free range chickens around. The whole tour took over 2 hours, which was a little long for me, so I left a bit early to hit up the farm store before the rest of my tour group did. I even ordered one of their last turkeys for Thanksgiving, which I'm beyond stoked about. I'd highly recommend this tour. Be a little patient, and eat a big breakfast before you come. There are no lunch options within walking distance, so unless you plan on snacking on a hunk of cheese, you might get hungry after the drive and the walking tour and the ooohing and aaahing at these beautifully kept grounds.

The decor was nice, with a "little shop in the French countryside" kind of vibe. Nothing too over the top, and nothing too boring. FSG is sandwiched between One Good Tern Wild Bird store and Simply Fish restaurant in an odd layout of a strip mall off Quaker and Braddock in Alexandria. They have a vast selection of wines, ports, cheeses, caviar, and breads. What keeps us going back, and a lot of our friends talk about this, too, is that there is not a hint of pretention there. The owners are so very helpful, patient and kind. The prices are also comparable to bigger stores and chains. And, of course, they do generous case discounts. We normally buy cases of the Le Petit Duc La Porte (glad I'm typing it because I can't pronounce it) and we get a better price at Fern Street Gourmet than what they're selling it for at Whole Foods. Off-street parking is almost always available here. I know they do tastings, too, but have never been to one. If you're looking for a nice pairing for a special dinner or holiday meal but don't want to feel looked down upon like in some other wine joints, check out Fern Street.
