Update After disputing this charge with my American Express, I received an email from rifle gear with a pre paid packing slip with an email that said "I have attached the return label to this email, please use this to return the item." Nothing else. I asked them what changed and if they were exchanging (what I originally wanted) or refunding. The response was "We received a chargeback for the item so please use the provided label to return it to us." Not answering the question if they were refunding or exchanging. I sent it back, they refunded with no explanation. It was clear they were @ss chapped about taking it back. To put it in context, my only credit card is American Express and I have had the account since 2003 and the Amex people made note that this was the first time I had disputed a charge in 22 years. Recently bought an AR-15 and took Riflegears basic rifle class. Devin was an excellent instructor. He was very direct when it came to safety and fundamentals and really took the time to make sure our sights were properly sighted and functioning. I live in the panhandle where it's very windy so I jumped on the opportunity to zero my rifle at a 100yd indoor range. RifleGear is a nice range, far nicer than any other public range I have been to. Super friendly and helpful staff. To save some time fill out your waivers online before going in. Weekends seem to be crowded so be ready for a little wait. They have an awesome retail store and are willing to work with you on prices. Also try and make it out for NFA day, I think it's once a year, essentially a bunch of suppressor companies have booths and they cover the stamp cost ($200) if you purchase specific suppressors that day, and it's all top tier companies that you've heard of like Dead Air, Otter Creek, HUX, etc.. read more

I've had the Doritos there. The rifle lanes are high tech with vid screens that can help those of you with less than Deadpool vision. Specific Shout out to Marshall, who was excellent to interact with. Although he had a bum leg, he was a trooper and went all over the store with us. I bought multiple items with him, most in part due to him. I have been back and other interactions have been good, and pleasant, but Marshall was still my favorite to work with. The Selection is good, with more desired. Ammo area tiny, but not too surprising considering alleged margins being small. No apparel section, and having ordered some online, to no surprise it wasn't there when attempting to pickup. This place has great potential. I hope it achieves what it could be. read more

Insane. The overhead at big box stores is insane. Internet dealers can undercut you by 25%. So when i wondered in on my birthday looking for a 6" Dan Wesson in 10mm and a Berretta 1301 Tactical, you'd think sales folks would magically appear to help pay their salary. The place was mostly empty. 4 floor staff and 2 other customers. I waited patiently for 20 minutes before approaching two idle guys at the desk. No, they couldn't show me guns - they only work the range. I was instructed to wait for the two nitwits loligagging elsewhere. So I left and ordered what i wanted elsewhere. read more

I was deeply disappointed with the service and considered the quality of the actions of the staff as dangerous. While at my lane a staff member attempted to pick-up one of my guns without announcing his intentions to do so. My first response was to defend and I had a pocket knife in my hand - no one seemed to see the knife and I deescalated after being startled by two staff members. I served in the military and have worked with new recruits on hand gun (M-9) range. I'm not sure I'll return to that location in The Colony. I'd give zero stars if that was an option. read more

Showed up to shoot. First in line in the building with my buddy. We need to do some load development, so we are going to both need to shoot. Get to the check in, ask for the two 100 yard lanes. Before we can complete check in, the guy working looks behind us, sees some regulars, and says we can't have the lanes because they are here and want them. We can wait an hour for them to shoot and then maybe they can see if we can get two lanes.... The three regulars took 3 of the 4 lanes and we were told to wait after being first in the building. Better hope good ol' boys aren't shooting on the morning you need to or the staff will give your lanes to them. read more

Summary: RifleGear gunsmith makes a mistake, management refuses to admit mistake, requests additional $60 to partially fix mistake, relents and agrees to fix mistake, voids agreement and bans me from the store. Mistakes happen, but RifleGear's response is unacceptable. Last week I dropped off a Colt 14.5" upper with a pinned A2 flash hider (FH) and requested they remove the pinned A2 FH, install a Surefire 4-prong FH that I provided, and use the new set of accu-washers that I also provided to properly index the FH before pinning and welding it in place, bringing the overall length of the barrel to greater than 16" I go in today to pick it up and immediately noticed an issue, the gunsmith installed 2 accu-washers between the FH and barrel shoulder instead of 1. For context, there are 18 accu-washers per set, each is a different width, you install the correct width washer so that, when torqued to spec, the FH is aligned properly (referred to as "indexing" or "timing"). The benefit of using accu-washers instead of standard shim kits is that 1 solid washer is compressed between the FH and barrel shoulder, instead of 5-6 thin flimsy shims. There's no scenario where 2 accu-washers are required to properly index a FH. I pointed out the issue and asked them to fix it, but instead of admitting that their gunsmith made a mistake by using 2 wrong sized accu-washers, the manager lied and said "that's how they're supposed to be installed", condescendingly asked me "how many years of professional gunsmithing experience do you have?", and told me that since there's "no issue" I'd have to pay them an additional $60 to remove the pin and weld. Only when I suggested we post pictures of the barrel assembly online and see if the firearm community agreed that there's "no issue" did the manager change his tune and agree to fix the issue at no additional cost. We agreed they'd remove the pin and weld, allow me to take the barrel assembly home, I'd install the correct sized accu-washer, torque the FH to spec, verify concentricity with my suppressor and alignment rod, then bring the barrel assembly back to them, where they'd pin and weld it in place. Mistake will be corrected, requires a little more effort on my part, but everyone is happy, right? Wrong. Before signing off that I'd received my barrel assembly, I asked for our agreement in writing. The sales agent went back to his manager, and while he was gone a customer asked me about my suppressor and what the issue was. I was honest and said the gunsmith made a mistake, that it wouldn't have damaged the suppressor, but wasn't the right way to index the FH. He then asked about 9mm suppressors for his pistol and I suggested he look into newer flow through suppressors to reduce the grime-to-face effect that's experienced when shooting suppressed pistols. That was it. At no point did I raise my voice, at no point did I insult the staff or the business, and at no point did I tell the customer to shop elsewhere. When the sales agent returned, he told me that he'd been made aware I had talked to "several customers" about the issue, that our agreement is void, and that I am hereby banned from the premises. To his credit, he did remove the pin and weld and refunded the entire price of the botched service ($129.90) without me asking, but honestly I'd prefer the gunsmith and manager own and fix their mistake. Note to gunsmith/manager: I've attached a picture of that same barrel assembly with 1 correct sized accu-washer (#18) installed and the FH properly indexed and torqued (23 ft/lbs, within Surefire's 20-30 ft/lbs spec). I took that picture 10 mins after I got home. 10 mins was all it took to correct your mistake. Instead you lied, argued, belittled my experience, and banned me for answering the questions of one curious onlooker. I've been a customer since April 2022, I've spent thousands of dollars at your business since then, I just bought this Colt 14.5" LE6920SOCOM rifle from you on 9/26/24 for $1,492.77, but I guess I'm no longer welcome. Recently took the 3-hour advance pistol class. The instructor Patrick was very knowledgeable and patient with any questions I had. The class consisted of holster draws, one-handed shooting both strong and weak side, firing while moving, barricade work and with positions and CQB style pie training. With a few USPSA/shoot house style run courses. Alot packed in a 3 hour class, challenging, informative and really pushes you in what your capabilities are as a shooter. read more

Really want to give them a higher score, but don't feel it is deserving of more. The ammo prices aren't the greatest, but they do appear to have plenty in stock. The service is 50/50. Everyone is nice, but definitely not on the same page. I've been wanting to test a handgun out so I called in to ensure that it was available for me to rent because it hasn't been available for the past few months when I'd stopped by, and if I liked it, buy one on the spot. The guy on the phone said "Yes, it's available now to try". So I drive all the way up there, to the counter, and ask where this weapon is. They point me to a different shelf, and lo and behold....the weapon is NOT there. They told me that the guy on the phone wouldn't know if it was available to rent or not. WTF?? It literally feels like I was told yes, just to get me into the building. I couldn't believe they didn't have this basic knowledge. Needless to say, I'm not sure if I'm willing to continue to go to Rifle Gear in The Colony. No point in it if I'm going to be lied to or given wrong information. I went out to rifle gear with a close friend. We each brought a few rifles and a few pistols to shoot. From the moment I walked into that building, I was impressed. The interior was spacious and clean, and every single staff person was friendly and outgoing. From there, it got better. Their Range safety officers are absolutely disciplined in firearm safety, and very politely but firmly make sure that you're following the rules. The 100 yard range is exceptional in that it features a camera focused on the target at 100 yards, with the video image of the camera on a screen to your left. Too bad the targets I brought with me were too small, as I was forced to pull them to 93 yards to see them, but what an amazing idea. $30 got my friend and I what amounts to unlimited time on the rifle range. As long as no one is waiting, your one hour timeslot can be extended indefinitely. The best part? In order to shoot pistols on the 100 yard range, you are required to qualify by hitting a target at 50 yards with three shots in a row. Any miss, and you lose your chance to qualify for that day. If you qualify, you are charged $10, one time. If you fail to qualify (I hit my first two firing an FN 509 for the first time and brain farted my way into missing my third) you are not charged at all! I cannot recommend rifle gear enough as a friendly, safe, and professional location. Don't go anywhere else. read more

PRE-DISCLAIMER: a. don't know if this is the proper forum for a rant b. for context, i have spent many hours and dollars at RifleGear in both The Colony and Plano (former location) c. i am a strong supporter of supporting your local "retailer" d. i am very forgiving and will be your best friend if you just own up and fix your crap last week, i spent a grand on a new FN Reflex and a Holosun optic. nice dude installed on the spot. didn't sight it in for me...but hey, $1,000 just ain't what it used to be. took the new purchase into the range and it jammed, it wouldn't consistently load. asked Range Officer to come fire a few rounds and see if it was something i was doing. same two things happened with him. wouldn't charge and jammed feeding next round into the chamber. brought the sales fella in and both things happened to him. they lubed it up, and he came out and rapid-fired like 5 shots in :01 seconds w/o jamming. so, i tried in my slower, more methodical pace, and it jammed. next day, i called for a manager, and his first effing response was, "...have you called FN?" dude, i bought this damn yesterday. either fix this this or give me my money back...i will buy something else. if you know gun shops, the moniker, "...all sales are final" is the gospel with these mofo's. RifleGear manager took my gun in for inspection to their gunsmith, and in less than 24 hrs, i got a report that "no problems found". blamed it on my ammo. SO, went to pick up my gun, bought 100 rds of their expensive retail 9mm...guess what? same thing. wouldn't consistently charge, jammed feeding next round multiple times. here's what i heard from the stellar RifleGear staff: *Have you called FN *Send it in to FN *It's your ammo causing the problem *You may be limp-wristing in your firing action ( i've broken in several snappy subcompacts, 2-Hellcats...i promise you, my accuracy is stellar and i ain't limp-wristing my firing action, douchebags!) *FN makes mass-produced, cheap parts (is that really what you wanna tell the customer that just spent $1,000 and you won't take it back?) I've had it with these guys. they're the closest to my residence, nice facility and some great cats running the floor and the Range. but customer service for a guy that's spent nearly $5K in the last couple o three years is NOT THEIR FORTE. Eagle Gun Range is further away, but i may have to take my business over their. Texas Gun Experience is a great range and retail, and further away...but maybe i take my steady business to them. Brought 3 handguns with 15 magazines and holsters in to trade for a new handgun to upgrade. This place would not negotiate/barter at all. It was here is what we'll pay for the trade and what you'd owe. They wouldn't acknowledge anything. Didn't help the sales guy had no personality, was like talking to a wall. To me, this isn't a real gun shop. DFW is huge, with lots of gun shops that want business and will negotiate, my advice is take your business somewhere else like I did. read more

Always find the best deals on guns here. They take safety very seriously which is a plus. To address some of the negative comments I've seen: Most of these seem to be because of the way they go about interacting with customers through the laptop check-in process. There are signs indicating to check in and reserve your spot in line to speak with an employee. While this does take some recognization of the sign or you to ask an employee yourself before being seen, it does avoid the sales shark mentality I hate about most places. This lets me walk around the store and look at what I want without the feeling of being pressured or needlessly questioned prior to making a decision myself. read more

Would give ten stars if I could! I love coming here. Me and my wife usually come on Wednesdays for ladies night and it's become a bit therapeutic for us. Most of all, we're glad to be back in Texas, in a pro-2A state. My experience here is essentially broken into three categories: Store: great sales on optics, lots of promo days, and very fair prices, especially compared to other ranges/dealers in DFW. I've done an FFL here as well and it was painless. Shop employees are knowledgeable and friendly. The actual store is incredibly clean and I always feel like I'm in a James Bond movie in here. Range: 25 and 100 yards. Would be nice if there was a 50 yard since I like a 36 yard zero and don't want to pay for the 100 yard range all the time, but I get it, and the fact there are plenty of 25 yard bays shows they genuinely care and encourage gun ownership and creating a non-intimidating environment for people who are new to it. Lastly, the range officers are great. They strike the right balance between keeping everything orderly without being overbearing. They're happy to provide occasional tips or share knowledge as well. Instruction: I've taken two classes here. The basic AR and most recently, intermediate handgun with Patrick. Both classes were great and I felt like the value was so much more than the actual cost of the class. It's about 45 minutes in the classroom and around 2 hours in the range, which is awesome. Other ranges will be the opposite and you will barely get to shoot. The instructors have been absolutely awesome, especially this last intermediate handgun class I took with Patrick. I have so much more confidence in my skills now and genuinely had a blast in the course, pun intended. Definitely one of my favorite places to shoot in DFW. Highly recommend! read more

Came in today and felt like I walked into gun heaven! I've visited a few gun stores around Plano, Dallas, and Richardson and nothing compares. I needed help as a first time gun buyer and the wait was less than 5 minutes. Duncan was so helpful and knowledgeable running me through the grips and advantages/disadvantages to each manufacturer and answered all my questions on training and plans for my gun journey. I ended up getting a tti combat for the lowest retail price and saved me $200-300 and shipping hassle. We even looked at building a custom p320 sig and how astigmatism affects different red dot sights. I wanted a very hard to find Colt M4A1 Carbine SOCOM with a 14,5" barrel, and this place had it. I wanted a good Red Dot and these guys had a wide selection, they recommended the Aimpoint Pro (which the military used). Very experienced staff, I mean REALLY knowledgeable. This place is 5 minutes from me, how did I not know about them? Word of mouth says it all. If you want a Cabalas of gun shops, this is it.
