Context. We were a group of 6 people with variable amounts of shooting experience and none of us had used shot guns. We got uere around 11am on a Sunday. It wasn't busy. We checked in at the shop. They were very patient with us as they explained the prices, options etc. Since we were all rooks they said we'd have an instructor help us out and set us up with a larger practice trap stand which had extra bench space. They also offer complementary water which we grabbed on our way to the shooting area. Practice traps are the kind that always shoot in generally the same spot so you don't have to track a sideways moving target. We had a 20ga shotgun which has a smaller recoil. Prices were reasonable. 15/25 traps and then 13/25 ammo, and the gun was 20. Our instructor John met us at the stand. It was a bit of a wait but once he got there he showed us the ropes and hung out with us, helping us out and just being a cool guy. We were there about 1.5 hrs. The location is pretty straight forward and very easy access to all shooting ranges. They also sell merchandise in the store. The prices are very affordable the staff care about people's safety. Have to drive an unpaid road for a bit to get to the nice paved area throughout the complex. Many different options, including sporting clays, trap, five stand, etc. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well as long as you bring your own shells. Larry Jister one of the most helpful range marshals I've ever met. It was my daughters very first time to shoot, and after he went over some things with her, she broke a clay on her first shot. This place completely exceeded my expectations. As a young woman from the East Coast who has never shot a gun before, Chantay and John made this experience incredible. Chantay walked me through every step of how to handle a gun, how to load it, and reassured me of my nervousness. She made me feel so comfortable. Once my friend and I got outside and set up at the skeet shooting stalls, John met us out there. From the moment John saw my nervousness, he was literally a saint. He was extremely thorough with showing me how to shoot and had me practice without bullets to get me comfortable. After the 4th bullet, I was having so much fun! As two young woman, we were pretty intimidated. John spoke so much confidence into us, never made us feel uncomfortable, and made us feel so empowered. John sat with us the entire time and gave us an amazing experience. I cannot say more great things about John. As a souvenir, they let me keep the clay disc and even wrote the date! Shooting here is fun. I like the reactive steel targets. The staff are pretty hands off which I like. When you first enter, if its your first time, you have to go to the building in the back next to the american flag/flag pole. Thats where you check in, get a wrist band, and pay for what you want. A great complex for rifle, handgun, and shotgun shooting. The only problem for me is that it is a bit of a drive from Frisco. The range marshals are helpful and will provide safety and shooting tips. They provide free handgun lessons on Saturday and Sunday as well, and they have both 50 yard and 100 yard rifle ranges. There are two separate facilities; a rifle/hand gun range, and a shotgun range. Each has its own parking area. We went to the shotgun range and got on in no time. On busy days, there may be a wait but it seems to go fast. We had a group of seven so they gave us a nice large size hut for trap shooting. They give you a device to launch the clay pigeons and keep track of how many you've used. We proceeded to shoot, and the range Marshall came up and gave instructions to the novices in the group without even having to ask! The team there is friendly and very helpful and safety is emphasized. You can also select skeet ranges or sporting clay courses. I have not tried the sporting clay, but it looks fun. I usually buy the 10 round discount card since you get a better price so keep that in mind if you come out here regularly. The rifle range is just as nice, so I will probably try that out next time I'm out here again. read more

This place is legit! If you're a beginner or an expert this is the place to go practice! Customer service was great: if they see you need help they're happy to assist you with tips. You can always ask too. You can rent out guns or take your own. Make sure to check in with the front before entering the range. They have spots for rifles and regular hand guns. I've been to Elm Fork several times in the last few years and I have never been let down. Consistently great employees, really nice clubhouse. The golf carts are always well maintained. Place is always clean. Other patrons are usually quite nice and friendly. One thing that always surprises me is how reasonable their ammo prices are. Some places try and gouge you on ammo prices since you're there already and kind of stuck if you run out, but these guys are very fair. Since my wife has now been bitten by the skeet shooting bug, I'm going to look into a VIP membership. Even though this place is an hour from my house, I have no problem with the drive time for such a terrific experience. read more

This was so much fun! We did a team event here and chose skeet shooting. First of all, it was freaking hard but it was fun. It can be frustrating if you're like me and suck of aiming. I never got the hang of it but coworkers did and shot a few of them in a row. Cost wasnt so bad either. You just need to rent one shot gun and take turns if you are in a group of no more than 6. Might need to rent several guns for more people or you can bring your own I'm not a gun enthusiast or care much about it. I've only shot a gun one other time. If you have never shot a gun before I highly recommend you take up safety lessons before you walk into the range. It looked like any idiot with a gun can accidentally shoot somebody. Its pretty open Here's a few rules: 1. Never ever put your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to shoot. 2. Never point your gun at anybody if you are not ready to shoot 3. Don't look at the gun's hole to see the bullet inside (obvious but I have to stress. I dont trust people) read more

Really do love this outdoor range! First off great pricing for a day of shooting. 17 bucks and bullets is all you need! You can rent a gun here or bring your own. Boy do some people have a collection. Bring as many as you like. They have tons of space to shoot. I went with a group and its pretty cool because everyone got a chance to shoot everyone's guns! Bring a few bottles of water as it does tend to get a little warm so you will start to sweat. Wear a nice cool shirt, shorts and stay cool. Plenty of retail, rentals, seating, shade, food trucks in a corporate event space if you're looking to host something - this facility has it all. We shot half the course (six stations) in just less than an hour despite being pretty busy for a Friday afternoon. Awesome course, clean facility, four levels of difficulty - good, good fun for a first timer. We shot two different model Beretta 12 gauge shotguns, each had minimal recoil. I've heard that sporting clays is sometimes referred to as golf with a shotgun, and that's a fair comparison. Like golf courses, no two sporting clay courses are alike, and terrain and background have a lot to do with how targets are presented. Elm Fork is logically laid out and a ton of fun, entertaining placements to appeal to the competitor and the novice alike. read more

This place is cool but some of the staff are absolute dicks. At the 50m range they said I didn't have to wear eye pro and that it was ok. Then I go to the 100m range and the range master comes up to me, addresses me as "beanie" and asks me if I have my eye pro. Work on your customer service and consistency in enforcing policy. My hubby finally convinced me to learn proper firearm usage. I've been coming here regularly, and enjoy it. Management and staff are friendly, helpful, and stress safety. My pet peeve is that although many folks can shoot a gun, few know proper gun care and safety. You do NOT know guns if you don't know safety and care techniques. My hubby is already licensed. I'm practicing as I'll go to class soon to become licensed. I'm proving to be an "Annie Oakley" in training :-) I really enjoy our time at the range. I love this place. I'm an avid trap shooter and I recommend checking this place out sometime if you live in their area. The front desk lady is super chill and nice, and they offer plenty of rental guns. The warm up traps (blanking on the name) are a good place to get warmed up. I bought 2 gift certificates for my wife and her best friend for Elm Fork's Basic Pistol Training at the price on Elm Fork's website: $95 apiece. The instructor told me it included pistols and ammo. We changed the reservation date which the instructor said was fine. There'd be a different instructor, but all costs were already covered. When I asked for the new instructor's contact info, the first instructor did not give it, assuring me that, "there'd be no problem." At the training, the new instructor annoyed the ladies by charging an additional fee each for pistols and ammo. Afterward, no one contacted me to explain or apologize. More than a day later, I contacted them and was told, "Sorry, Mike runs his class differently..." No offer of refund. This is bad customer service delivered with a shrug. read more

Highly disappointed with the fact that the staff is NOT deaf friendly. My brother has been to this place and enjoyed it a-lot with his hearing family and it has been a wonderful place to go shooting. This morning he decided to go with his friend who is also deaf to go shooting and they were not taken care of properly. My brother constantly tried to communicate with the man in writing and the man refused to write back and continued talking after constantly being told they were deaf. They was a lot of confusion and delays in getting started simply because the man refused to use a pen and paper to communicate. This staff needs to be educated on how to communicate with deaf customers. How sad and disappointing. read more

I'm getting ready for a pheasant hunt this winter, and headed to Elm Fork to brush up on my shotgun skills. Shooting is a perishable skill, and it's been years since I've fired a shotgun. I started with the practice trap and quickly began to realize how rusty I was. That's when Dale, an Elm Fork trainer, stopped by and offered a few pointers. I gladly accepted, and listened intently to his suggestions. After making a few changes to my stance and sight alignment, I was soon hitting over 80% of the clays. I also ventured over to the handgun range. There are two options - shooting paper targets and shooting steel. I shoot paper all the time, so I chose steel and had a great time blasting the targets until I was out of rounds. There were a lot of people out on a Sunday afternoon, but the place was so big it never felt crowded. I didn't have to wait for either trap or handgun. I really appreciated the friendly staff and the great instructor who helped me get back on track with shotgun. read more
