I cannot recommend the professionals at 1911 Academy enough. I have used their services in the past to install particularly difficult pistol sights and they have always delivered their services in a professional and courteous manner, going the extra mile to take the time to fully explain the particulars of the service as well as just engage in the friendly gun talk most of us enthusiasts like to participate in. Their pricing is very fair, but I just have to say that my most recent experience just blew me away. I was assembling an AR15 upper and putting on a new muzzle device. The previous device I had on the barrel - a standard A2 flash cage - threaded on the barrel easily with only finger turns. I tried installing a new KAW Valley Linear Comp I got this morning, and it was very difficult to thread. Not only that when I went back to thread on the A2 now it was difficult, offering moderate resistance. I contacted 1911, panicked that I may have screwed the threads on my new barrel. They told me to bring the upper in along with the two muzzle devices and they would check it out. Well let me just say that after some minutes of Brian testing out the threads and both muzzle devices he told me I had no cross-threading issue and that both the barrel and the two muzzle devices were fine. He said it is just a characteristic of the type of threading that some devices go on tight and instructed me to use lots of oil when installing the KAW LC or - if in doubt - have 1911 install it for me. When I asked how much I owed him he said, "Nothing, man. Merry Christmas". Writing this glowing review is the least I can do for these guys. If you are in the NTX area please do yourself a favor and at least check them out. They would be happy to talk you through whatever issues you may be having with your firearm and - if you engage their services - you can be sure you will get the best, most professional services at a very fair price. read more

I do not recommend them and am very shocked by the lack of professionalism when I chose to pick up my incomplete site replacement after 7 months. Here is what my experience was. I have a Colt Gold Cup Series 80 that was a gift for my 21st birthday 32 years ago. I had an incident where my front site was no longer staked in and needed to be replaced so I took it and the job was to order a new site and install. I was told that it may take a little time to get the parts and that was April of 2023. 5 months went by and I had not heard from them so I called to check and was not able to get them on the phone. After a couple of follow up with no clear ETA I was told on 8/26 that the site was in and that the gunsmith would get to it the next week. Following up again month later I was then told that the staking tool needed to be ordered to complete the repair and 3 days later a call that they had the wrong site and needed to order a new one. It was 10/6/2023 at this time and the site would be in at the first of next week and the repair would move to the front of the line given the length of time they had it. Today on 10/27/2023 I showed up to collect my pistol, which I told them fixed or not I was going to come get it. Upon arrival they proceed to tell me I would have to pay for the part despite them not completing the repair and I told them no, I would not. Instead of a polite conversation the gunsmith appeared from the back immediately yelling and refusing to hear my stance on the issue. While we both exchanged some yelling and I was finally given my pistol and left the store. This was not the response I was expecting and was even more surprised as the gunsmith followed me to the door with a hammer in his hand yelling at me. I would not recommend this business for reasons of the lack of professionalism and lack of follow up. read more

I recently chose this place for an FFL transfer, and I discovered it by word of mouth. I went in on a Saturday (they're open 1000-1300 on Saturdays), and the place was poppin'! Despite being busy, I was greeted right away and directed to the gentleman that would be taking care of my transfer. In the meantime I had a look around and noted that they do all kinds of gun-related things; classes, repairs, modifications, sales, accessories, as well as just talk to you and give you info and opinions. The clientele in there were all cool and friendly as well, and the vibe of the place was laidback and friendly. I filled out my form and waited for the background check, and was done in about 20 minutes or so. They also threw in a soft carry case and a bore snake. Called the store and spoke with Derek about getting a repair for my S&W model 64 with a tight cylinder and thumb piece and difficult trigger pull. He said to ask for Chuck when I arrived. I drove to 1971 W. University at Central Expy but couldn't find the store. Called back and found out the correct address is six miles west towards Custer Road since the correct address is 1971 University Business Drive. I arrived, met Chuck who began his checks of the weapon. He said an interior part of the ejector rod was gunked up. He soaked and cleaned it while I waited and reassembled it. I dry-fired it and it's as smooth as it was when new. Reasonable price for the repair and I was very pleased. Recommended gunshop for repairs based on quickness of repair, competency, and fair pricing. read more

I have a 1911 that I took to another gunsmith in Fort Worth at an indoor gun range that has "outdoors" in the name to have ambi safety put on. While he did a quick turnaround, the safety fit was not right. I am an avid Uspsa competitor, so I would like to have my gear perfect. Since this 1911 was a special built one, from a world class gunsmith, I wanted the additional ambi safety to be perfect. So under the recommendation from a Dallas area cop and fellow pistol competitor , I was told to come here. Chuck , one of the gunsmiths identified the issues in seconds and fixed them quick. I was in and out in way under an hour. The safety fits perfect now, can't wait to take the pistol to a match.
