I've had bad experiences in the past with pushy salesmen, usually when I get that, I just walk away. I can't speak on every salesman that works there but I can tell you about Cody Bushman. He was absolutely excellent. Worked with me on my trade in and getting a vehicle I was excited about at a fair price. The most important thing to me when buying a car is working with someone who is not trying to take advantage of you and overly pushy. This service department quoted me for a new battery and oil change, plus rotated tires at like $650 last winter, but because I was struggling financially- I paid the oil change at $130ish. Which already seemed excessive but I assumed they knew what they were doing. Wrong. I just had my oil changed at home and asked them to check the battery (nearly 12 months later on a car that's not even 4 years old) and they said it was no where near needing to be replaced. When I called to ask them why there was a huge discrepancy, and why my oil change cost less than 1/2 ($60) what they'd been charging me the last 2 years; I was belittled and condescended by Brady and Kendall who clearly have no professionalism or respect for their customers. I've called Subaru's American office and sent an email to their boss. I have a friend from Billings who drove an outback that said these guys were a bunch of con artists. I assumed he was being an alarmist, but he's absolutely right. Stay away and go to someone who is more than capable of changing the oil for less. These guys are a bunch of clowns and should be ashamed of themselves, but I'm sure they're not because they get to keep taking advantage of grandma and grandpa. read more

While in a blizzard (not the DQ type) I had my driver side mirror taken off I n a fender bender while coming to Billings for a wrestling tournament. We have purchased two vehicles with RIMROCK SUBARU and any time there is a mechanical issue or warranty issue they try to get out of doing the work. I would highly discourage anyone from doing business with them. What you say Ashley is true . The car does have a salvage title . which unfortunately wasn't disclosed by the previous owner. That aside, your service manager wouldn't test the battery to find out if it was bad or not, so I went ahead and foolishly bought the new battery from you. Turns out my old battery probably was OK after all as the new battery won't start the car either . Are you claiming that you won't honor the warranty if this battery goes bad either even after buying it from you because of the salvage title? Why would I ever do business with you if this is the case? I can go to Car quest and they would never ask for my VIN to replace a battery. They would cheerfully replace the battery salvage title or not. read more

HORRIBLE business ethics. Called about a car posted for sale online, talked with Jesse in person and was able to look at & sit in car. I was refused the ability to drive or purchase the car (with cash in hand) until it was ran through the mechanic and detailed. Jesse promised I would be called as soon as it was available. I called to check on car after no call all day and was told it was sold. I was never even given the opportunity to purchase due to their poor communication, lack of respect for the time I already invested and the sales team looking for a quick sale no matter the client. Chris tried to back peddle and stated it was never for sale until it was detailed and pulled on lot. When it was, coincidental, people on site wanted to purchase so it was sold. Yet it was posted "for sale" online 4 days prior. No apology and was hung up on after expressing my extreme disappointment in their business practices. read more

We decided to build and buy a Forrester back around Sept. of 21. I wanted a 2021 model but later found out by the manager that they were only building the 2022 models. The dealer we initially started with took our information and took our credit card number for the $500 to put against the car in case we didn't follow through when the car was built and delivered. We were getting a loan with USAA so we asked what the total amount for the car was and received that price. We asked numerous times before we sent in the price to USAA that this would be the final cost and they assured us it was. It was about a week before Christmas and we noticed our car was sitting on the lot so my wife called a few days later asking why we weren't notified. They said they didn't have the stock number yet and would let us know. They called and said we could get it on Christmas eve so in we went. We went in to finalize and ended up with a different dealer. He then told us the price went up $500 from the amount we were told. This happened 15 minutes before we showed up to get the car. They said it was because they were going off of the 2021 price and not the 2022. We were livid because I was told a few months earlier from the manager that they were not selling the 2021 models anymore. This same manager was called in and I asked if we were going to get it for the price we were initially told. Nope, under any circumstances were they going to eat the cost of the $500. I find it funny that the difference between a 2021 and 2022 model was only $500. I told them we weren't going through with the deal since they reneged and walked out. The manager told my wife before she left that they would not sell a car to somebody who was "Pissed off." They also told her that they were not making any money on this car so we were free to opt out of the car deal. We ended up going to Honda and picked up a 2022 CRV. We had the best sales experience with Honda and will never look at Rimrock Subaru again. read more

I don't want to right a novel on EVERYTHING that goes wrong here, but I will say this. Unless you like getting scammed and screwed over don't buy a car here. You're better off going to Gallatin Subaru. They harass everybody that even looks at a car just to get a car sale because they can't afford they're fancy new building. I've heard things said about customers by management behind the desk. The salesmen are actually pretty cool people it's just when you get into management that's where it's all down hill. The service department is always swamped but they actually care about the consumer. They're so desperate for sales they harass people that just came in for an oil change. They pull the service record and your cars info and what you purchased your car for and give that out like candy to make a sale. All the other Rimrock Dealerships run 100% better than Subaru. read more

Before I start my review, I did not purchase a vehicle here. In large part because of the treatment I received while visiting for the first time. I understand that many car dealerships are pressured by their owners to close sales and upsell products, etc etc. I get it. The way this dealership chose to deliver the options and attempt to sell me a car was incredibly uncomfortable and rude, not considerate of my time AT ALL and couldn't read the fact that I didn't even want to purchase the specific car I drove. I ended up going elsewhere and purchasing a more expensive vehicle. The test drive of the vehicle I was interested in was fine. The salesman was super chill and nice. We did the test drive, I liked one car more than another bit still wasn't sure I wanted that vehicle or something larger. I had a meeting to get to at 1 and it was 12:30. I told him I'd be back later to look at a forester and some other options. He insisted I sit down in his office so he Could get me the lowest price on the Jeep I drove just so I had the information. Fine. I'll take the info and leave. Oh Nooooooo. Two other people end up coming into the worlds smallest office space. One man blocked the freaking door while the manager sat across from me and attempted to tell me that a $999 treatment for paint protectant was a great deal. And I wasn't even buying the car!!! They have a $750 document fee which is the highest I've seen in billings and I said something. Their reply was that they just built their beautiful new building and it cost about 15 million.... how is that their customer's problem?! If they can't sell enough cars to cover the cost of overhead maybe they shouldn't have built the building. The manager tried keeping me there by awkwardly trying to ask me about my job and life when I obviously needed to leave. As a female being there alone I felt incredibly uncomfortable having the door blocked and two other men try to force me into signing something when I literally went in there to test drive and not purchase anything yet. It was so horrible. The worst experience ever. These people have zero people skills and don't respect customers. I VERBALLY said I had to go and they kept on talking. I ended up purchasing a pricier vehicle from a dealership that gave me ZERO pressure and let me come back three times to make sure I liked the car I was buying. This place is gross. read more

I own a Subaru Outback, and occasionally get my oil changed at a dealer, mostly so that the can update any computer components and check for warranty work. In November of 2020 I did just that, at Rimrock Subaru. While the price was okay (somewhat high, but normal for a dealer), it wasn't until 6000 miles later, when my oil needed changing again that I found something that I have never seen (in 50 years of auto ownership). The mechanic only needed to touch three things: the filter, the drain plug and the filler cap. Each of those three things was tightened down so much that I couldn't believe it. I needed to use a cheater pipe on the wrench to get the drain plug off, I needed a wrench to remove the filler cap and I actually punctured the oil filter (with an oil filter removal wrench) getting it off. Either this guy was a gorilla on caffeine, or he was trying to intentionally piss someone off. Either way, I am not amused. And considering the damage that could have been done if the plug threads became stripped, I will certainly not be returning for any work to be done on my car. read more

Nothing but greed! Experience 1 Took Subaru Outback in for an oil change about 4 months ago. It's a 2015 Outback has 15,000 Miles on it. The vehicle is on lease. The oil change turned into a list of services required to the tune of $700. No services recommended were factory recommended until 70k. In addition the car was running fine and had no check engine light displayed. Did I mention the car has 15,000 Miles? All about the up-sell. Experience 2 Called today to buy the car off lease. Yes, we can assist you. When asked additional costs I was told vehicle needs to be inspected for damage and miles verified. Why, I ask. I'm purchasing the vehicle as is. No explanation as to why. I asked about Doc fee...not opposed to one. I have purchased well over 30 cars in my life. They ARE a business and business runs by charging for services. Their doc fee is $699. No exceptions. Ownership policy. Manager told me same after justifying cost. Called another Subaru dealership in MT. They are happy to assist. Their doc fee $299. We just moved from Florida to Montana. My husband purchased a Subaru at Rimrock and was very pleased with his dealings with both Brady and Kayla during the purchasing process. They were knowledgeable and their customer service was outstanding. I brought a 2014 Subaru Forester with me and shortly after arrival needed to have the battery replaced and key battery replaced. If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely horrible people to work with. I bought a car from then a week ago. 30 minutes after pulling off the lot my upper radiator hose blew. So I called the sales rep and told her to come pick me up as I was stranded on the side of the interstate. Her and the manager showed up and had my car towed back to the shop. Fixed the hose and I had my car back within 2 days. Over the weekend I tried going out of town, and guess what? The car overheated and I was once again, stranded on the side of the road until it cooled down. I called the dealership and was told over the phone by the manager, that he's already put too much money into the car and he sold it to me for "quite a bit less" that retail value, so if he deemed the repair too expensive, he was going to unwind the deal and leave me with no vehicle. Husband and I thought we fixed it by letting all the built up air out of the radiator, here we are a week later, and still having issues with the car overheating. Contacted the sales rep and she very rudely said "I've seen y'all driving all over town". If she knew anything she would know that we were going to the parts store to buy coolant. She then told me I would need to call and talk to the manager. So I called corporate instead. Rimrock Subaru is a JOKE for a dealership, and the people who work there only care about themselves and a paycheck. Pretty sad. read more

Overpriced is the first thing that comes to mind about a shop managed by a mindset of predatory service. The manager was nice and real assuring that his pricing wasn't too high for the repair he was quoting us for. I knew it Was another future screwing so I priced out the parts online and in town and found that the parts were actually only 300-400$ so their markup on OEM parts is insanely high. The total for repair quote was 1,450.00. The service repair time should have been quoted at 3-4 hours tops and at 90.00/hr=360.00$ So I decided to get another quote from a reputable shop in Billings and guess what, they quoted me 770.00 to do the exact same job!!!! Wow honest shops are my favorite. So yeah don't take your car here unless you have money to burn. read more

This is an excerpt of an email I sent to BJ Anderson on 2/15/16 without a response. I thought I might share my experience here so others can make an informed decision. Subject: Customer Concerns Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. I am sorry to have been so direct but our experience with Rimrock Subaru has been nothing short of excruciating. Perhaps a review of our experience will serve to illustrate why. We contacted James on 11/30 (following our test drive of 11/27) and told him we were interested in discussing the purchase of a 2016 Forester. The 0% APR and the incentive for XXXXX XXXXX employees made the purchase attractive. I was later told the XXXX XXXXx deal was "old" and the current deal was superior to it. In either regard, following a protracted negotiation, we left the dealership after our price could not be met. James followed us out to our vehicle twice with the final trip serving as an acknowledgement our price had been approved by you. He asked me to phone him later with my credit card number to place a $3000 down payment for the 0% APR which I did. I returned to the dealership on 12/2 to complete the purchase. It was at this time I was a) informed our purchase would not be at 0% APR but that b) we could finance at a rate of 1.9%. The second statement turned out to be false. During a subsequent conversation with you I was told we negotiated such a competitive rate the 0% APR would not be extended. Had this ever been communicated with me I may have reconsidered my purchase. As it was, I was passed on to Tony to finalize the financing. Tony told me there was no way 1.9% would be possible. However, if I was willing to extend the length of the loan, he could get a good rate with an extended warranty. I crunched the numbers on my phone and the deal looked competitive. I reviewed the total loan amount (reflecting financing the full price of the vehicle) and signed my portions of the documents. Tony said he would leave the paperwork for "the new guy to finish" and I could expect to make my first payment on 1/15/16. I returned the next day for a loaner vehicle and was told our new vehicle would be ready by 12/31/15. We were contacted by James on or about 12/27/15 to let us know the vehicle had arrived and asking us when we would like to pick it up. We confirmed my wife would pick it up on 12/30/15. When my wife arrived to pick up the vehicle she identified the fog lights we negotiated as part of our purchase were not included. We were asked to schedule a service appointment at a future date for their installation. I contacted James on 1/5/16, as we had not received an invoice for our first car payment. James was very responsive and contacted Scott on our behalf. Scott informed us Tony never completed the loan paperwork. Further, the paperwork required my wife's signature so she made time to go to the dealership and sign the documents. During the signing, Scott noticed Tony did not have me sign an essential document. This required a separate trip by me to the dealership to complete. Scott told me either Rimrock Subaru or Chase would contact us for the first payment. Neither party ever contacted me. Thankfully, I bank with Chase and noticed a new loan account. I made a payment on 1/15/16. Scott contacted me on 1/26/16 stating a $3000 payment should have been taken from my credit card when the vehicle was financed. I told him I reviewed the financial documents with Tony and the total financed was the purchase price of the vehicle. Scott informed me the price I reviewed was less the $3000. The $3000 was, roughly, the price of the extended warranty. I reviewed what Tony told me; the warranty was available if I extended the length of the loan. Scott appreciated my concern and confusion but told me he needed $3000. We paid the extra $3000 on 1/26/16 but I told Scott I was extremely dissatisfied and would be sharing my experience in both professional and personal settings. He offered me an oil change and I told him a $3000 oil change did not interest me. My wife made a service appointment for 9 AM on Saturday 2/6/16. After dropping the vehicle with the service department and waiting for 1.5 hours she was told the fog light package ordered was incorrect and she would need to make another appointment. As the above clearly illustrates, we have had a miserable experience with your dealership. We have been told one thing and then had something else occur. We have been taken advantage of and had our time wasted. As I told Scott, if I could return the vehicle and wash my hands of the whole sorry situation I would. read more

WARNING DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GROUP Let me begin by saying I could write a novel on all the things that have gone wrong with my car buying experience. Here's the jist I bought a 2016 GMC Sierra that I was told was a clean vehicle. After a few months go by and I have nothing but problems with the truck. I took it to a auto body shop other than rimrocks. Turns out the truck was totaled as it sat. It had been in multiple wrecks and none of the repairs were done correct. So now it's like pulling teeth trying to get ahold of anyone to help me. Went through 2 months of pure stress. Long brutal story short.... they finally take the truck back and get me into a new one. Then after a week or so goes by I notice my old loan hasn't been paid off so I contact my salesman and he says they have 20 days. Okay fine I don't have a payment due so I can handle that. Then 20 days go by still no payment. I end up having to go into the store. They tell me they have sent the check and are gonna look into it. Days go by I can't get ahold of anyone and no calls are being returned. Finally with 2 days left till my payment is due for a truck I don't even own (way past 20 days) I get ahold of the finance lady and she absolutely pulled threw for me! Ending months of pure stress. This five star rating would be a 6 star, if I could make it go that high -- Rimrock Subaru's Service department blew us away. Our Subaru died 20 miles outside of Billings, on a Saturday, so I called Rimrock to warn them we'd be towed in soon -- well, soon turned in to 10 minutes before they closed and nevertheless, Craig (the Subaru service manager) and a couple of the techs stayed to do the initial diagnosis for us. After that -- after hours, Craig offered to drive us around to hotels to find a vacancy but instead he pulled some strings and got us a rental car so we could continue our trip to Yellowstone. He then kept us updated and got our car squared away as quickly as was possible. He even called us a few days later to make sure we were safe on our way to Tacoma, WA. I've never had such a good experience at a car dealership's service department. read more

Own a 2020 Subaru outback and I had to go back to the dealer 5 times after I purchased the Subaru to get the bumper corrected after the dealer sloppily installed the trailer hitch. Dealer replaced the windshield 3 times for the second rock chip. 1) technician scratched the car and needed to be painted 2) Sold me a dirty and defective windshield and did not clean the windshield before installing as inside of windshield was oily; inside dash oily smudge marks; Eyesite did not work and molding inside the car would not stay up. 3) Finely got the windshield fixed but dash was still smudged with oily prints and molding kept coming down. Took 10 months for Subaru to finely admit and replace the molding. Took Subaru in and left for two days for Subaru to figure out what was wrong with 6 issues. Picked up and Subaru was not ready and no service report another Service Rep had to hunt down the keys. Subaru is the worst Service Department I have encountered in 50 years of driving. The sales/finance people sell you a secondary contract and do not want to honor it. Cost me near $900 thru Subaru for LUXCARE. They did not want to act as the liaison. read more

I went to Rimrock Subaru in an attempt to purchase a new Subaru. I wanted to trade in 2 vehicles towards the purchase of the new one. After several hours of looking, test driving, and waiting, they finally made me an offer. I was shocked to find out they were offering me about 1/4 the value for my trade-Ins as Kelly Blue Book said they were worth in our area! They gave me several lame excuses why they thought my trade-Ins were worth so little. Needless to say, I declined their offer and left. The next day, I took my trade-Ins to another car dealership in Billings and was offered 4 times the amount on them. I purchased a vehicle from the second dealership that same day. I believe Rimrock Subaru was trying to take advantage of an older person who they thought wouldn't have any idea what his trade-Ins were actually worth! Do not deal with Rimrock Subaru!! read more

Over the years, I have had several less than satifying interactions with Rimrock Auto mechanic shop. I have tried to avoid the business due to past experiences. Unfortunately, a catastrophic engine failure required a late night tow and out of desperation, Rimrock Subaru was selected. The service writer, Jesse proved to be very difficult to deal with. The hustle at the outset to agree to high dollar work was intense. The options for the repair and the cost was a moving target. Once the work was done, what I was told at the outset was different from what was done. When questioned about the disparity, Jesse was remarkably confrontational, argumentative, disrespectful, condescending, mean spirited, inconsistent with what he said prior to agreeing to the work and remarkably unbecoming of Rimrock Subaru. Jesse was entirely incapable of accepting the possiblity that he misrepresented important facts, rather repeatedly stating, "I'm not wrong." He repeatedly stated relative to my impressions of what we had agreed to, "that doesn't even make any sense." Jesse does not respect the customers of Rimrock Subaru. I am unsure if Jesse's lack of respect of Rimrock Subaru customers reflects the overall cuture of the business. I would advise at a minimum that all aspects of the proposed work be memoralized in writing before agreeing to having it done. I will avoid the business in the future. Multiple poor reviews suggest that Rimrock Subaru has serious underlying problems with customer service. No doubt the success of the business could be improved if they valued their customers. read more

We buy several SUV's and trucks on a yearly basis, which means we can compare dealerships. My wife and son wanted a Subaru. Since Rimrock Subaru in Billings is the closed Subaru dealer located at 2.5 hours driving from where we live, I tried to work with this dealership two weeks ahead of time to make sure everything was prepared correctly in terms of paperwork and credit applications not to lose time. This proved to be a nightmare, and I should have cancelled the deal at that point. During the two weeks sales people left and the people I dealt with kept changing. I had to keep explaining my story over and over, asking every time to confirm to make sure. I called ahead of time prior to taking the long drive to make sure everything was planned. Arriving at the dealership after all this, to our surprise nobody was aware of us even picking up the vehicle. The car was not prepared, and although I mailed in the credit application twice, I had to fill it out again with a bunch of additional hassle. And of course interest rates changed, etc. despite sending in my information ahead of time asking for confirmations, One of the employees overhearing what was going on, came to me and shared that many customers faced similar experiences, apologizing for the bad service, which seemed to be the way they do business. I will spare you more details, but as I became visibly very frustrated being stuck in this dealership for hours, I asked to speak to the owners. At that point somebody came up to me and made it clear to me I was being difficult and they did not want to sell the car anymore. Adding they did not want another bad review. Here I was. I started to read reviews of others. I should have started by doing just that. We own and operate our own business, and I never write negative reviews, rather explain what is wrong to the people involved, which I did. But this experience was pretty epic. read more

I came here to buy a Subaru Ascent! I explained with lots of detail what I wanted. They from the get go wanted to sell me a new car. I told them the car I wanted over and over again! They told me that I could leave that same day with the car if I picked the brand new one. I said: no. Then they became very picky and asked to see my truck that I was debating about giving it on trade in, they drove to my house picked it up, and then left me waiting again for hrs at one of there office, until I got tired of waiting and said: " no deal, bring my truck back home". I left they drove my car to my house without calling me, and left the keys on the floor outside! never buy at this place they really don't care for customers! FYI I HAVE A WALKER AND A NECK BRACE, and they had me wait all this time disregarding if I was in pain or not. read more

Beware of the Manager, Mel, from the time you look at the sticker price on the vehicle to the time you have them put it in writing. The sticker price went up $2,500 as he stated he tinted the windows. We asked him from the time we saw the sticker price to doing the paperwork, he had the windows tinted, and he said, "Well, no." He refused to go with the sticker price, therefore, we walked out. We informed them we had made a purchase elsewhere, but the calls continue from this organization. Quite harassing, don't you think? UPDATE: Lowering my rating to 1 star from 2 because it has been brought to my attention that not only did their "careful inspection" also fail to alert me that my anti-freeze level was VERY low, but all of my tires are low as well. The paperwork I received after the inspection said all the tires had been filled, but it is obvious that didn't happen. Are you kidding me? I didn't think I had to question EVERYTHING after an inspection, but at Rimrock Subaru apparently you do. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Be careful if you have your car serviced here. I took my Subaru in for an oil change and inspection before a road trip. Personnel gave me recommendations, including completely replacing both sets of brakes. I contacted another auto service place for a second opinion. They said all of the pricey recommendations were not needed, but did find two major issues under the hood (which they actually showed me) both which could have lead to major road side emergencies on the highway... I also had my headlight bulb replaced during my initial visit at Rimrock Subaru, but I found the headlight wasn't working that night. I made an appointment to have it looked at again, and two guys came out to the parking lot and found it was actually a socket problem. They told me it would be hundreds of dollars to fix, and I was not offered a refund for what I had paid to have the headlight fixed in the first place. Lied to about car having had oil changed, and pretty sure it never had the pricey coating (which when negotiating price, after saying they couldn't go down because of it, they did!) Sales person made promises that we were later told couldn't be kept! Tried to sell a ridiculous priced after market warranty up front and when came to bottom negotiation, cut it by 1/3 and it was for over double the years! Document fee is ridiculous. Also told it was fixed, but they ended up splitting with us. Buying a car shouldn't be this way! Don't believe them! read more

I was able to regain my money back the powers of attorney I am thinking were a scam and should be avoided. The dealership still does not know what they are doing. I was called today by the business office congratulating me on my purchase hoping that it was treating me well from the same guy that a week ago was emailing me on having to return the powers of attorney. The organization does not know what the left hand is doing to the right hand and obviously is only considering what the hand can do to your pocket book. Avoid at all costs would be my recommendation as even after they refunded the money for a bad sale they still do not know what they are doing. read more

Never again. The service department wrecked the rear window wiper motor on my 2009 Outback. As a "goodwill" jesture they offered to split the cost with me. WTF They tried to blame it on my bike rack. We own 2 Subarus but if we buy another one I will gladly drive 140 miles to Bozeman to buy it. Beware of this place. read more

A nightmare experience. I left my car for service with Rimrock for a week while I was on vacation. My flight was arriving at 7:00 p.m., so we arranged to have the car left outside with the key under the mat. I confirmed this with three different people, including the service specialist, technician, and even the service manager. When I arrived back in town, the car was locked in a secured area. I could not access it. It was not left in the public parking lot as promised. I was able to have a helpful member of the sales team let me into the secured area. When I got there though, the key was not under the mat. The key was locked up in the service department. I still do not have the keys to my car, home, or office. And I live over five hours away. This has turned into a disaster, I would not ever recommend Rimrock service. read more
