While El Valle 46 offers a range of classic Dominican specialties, including mofongo, haven't tried them out. In the past, I've enjoyed their Café con Leche and Cuban Sandwiches, favorites of mine, but it had been a while since I stopped by. Decided to order take-out and noted that Cuban Sandwich prices had increased several dollars and picked instead a Steak Sandwich, one that their site describes as having "juicy grilled steak, portobello mushroom, lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese, and balsamic." When I arrived, realized that El Valle 46's printed menu explained they were under new management, which might explain the Cuban Sandwich price change.The Steak Sandwich I received (see pic) was quite small and, noting when I opened it at home, lacked the mushroom, lettuce, tomato, provolone, and possibly any balsamic. It did, however, come with grilled onions. While tasty, El Valle 46's Steak Sandwich paled compared to ones available at corner bodegas literally a stone's throw away, many which cost several dollars less. That being said, looking at prepared Dominican dishes at the counter, next time I'll explore one of El Valle 46's Daily Specials that may be more fairly priced.

The truck operates only on Saturdays and Sundays, from around noon until six, or sometimes one. When we arrived, a line had already formed, which is a testament to how much people love this spot. Be prepared to wait about 2 hours--it's cash-only--but trust me, the experience is worth it. The most popular dishes are Lechon, Spanish Rice, and Octopus. The wait is long because the owner personally prepares each order, taking the time to chat with customers and even offer tastings. His warm personality and genuine customer service create a welcoming atmosphere. While my daughter and I waited in line, I noticed an older gentleman I'd seen in videos sharing wine with waiting customers.
