When in Sebring, FL stop by and enjoy nice Mexican food by the lake. Decor is very colorful and traditional Mexican style. Our server, Victor, was courteous and polite. Group of 6, team waiting was very efficient. My wife had the #9 chicken burritos with rice, beans, and mole. Temperature coming out of the kitchen was nice and hot, watch your hands on the plate. I had the #3 which was one taco, one enchilada, one burrito with rice, beans, and mole. Salsa was slightly spicy and chips were as usual. Prices were $14.95 and $15.95. I arrived approx. 8:45pm Saturday night and sat at a high-top table by the kitchen. There was a party of approx. 10 people around 40 years old already there in that area. They seemed to have been there awhile and were extremely loud and obnoxious to the point the bar waitress couldn't hear my order standing next to me and other patrons were looking at them. The (male black hair) manager or employee was actually sitting and hanging around them and drinking a beer. I know he was any employee because he went into the kitchen & served me my dinner and was going behind the bar. The waitress refilled my ice tea and said to me" it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you wanted to move outside due to the noise". I mentioned that I will be sitting here and finish my dinner but this is not acceptable. Between the time I parked my truck, ordered my dinner ate my meal and paid my tab I was out of there by 9:30. The food was very good and the bar waitress was super nice. As per the manager on staff he was more into hanging with his loud friends, drinking and not MANAGING your establishment. For your bar staff to acknowledge the obnoxious party and seemed not able to say anything to them because the manager on due was hanging with them says a lot about the decibel level that night. Love this little Mexican spot in Sebring. Highly recommended by friends who lives and the area so definitely a spot loved by the locals. Place was pretty busy with large groups which is always a good sign if it's packed with locals. We sat on the patio and awesome view and a nice breeze. Service was great as the bartender/waitress was very kind and attentive. Food was good and flavorful as it was simple and basic. Not as authentic Mexican but common dishes that's tastes good and served in nice portions. I was recommended to come here to see a beautiful sunset and there's no way you could see a beautiful sunset when the screened in the patio faces east so that was the first -2nd I asked for chicken and meat fajitas. The meat was very hard and the chicken was very dry. I had to send back the Margarita. It was missing an ingredient in his tasteless. It came back the second time and it was much better. We have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years. Prices continue to rise and drink prices are ridiculous! Yandy our server failed to ask what Marguerite we wanted and brought us the premium for $14.00 in a smaller glass instead of the house one that we always got. Unbelievable......he really didn't take responsibility either, when we complained he made excuses and made it our fault. Food was good but also higher price for same as has been for years. This place has an amazing spot on Lake Jackson. Great outdoor seating if it isn't too hot. Indoors things can be a bit chaotic with a lot of traffic. Food is just "okay". It reminded me of places that are trying to be Mexican but have chefs who are not. Chips are so-so and they have this really stupid policy of an upcharge for mild salsa. Three of four at our table thought the hot sauce was too hot so we had no choice here. My plate had the food thrown on it and then the fajita meat skillet stacked over the top of my food. This made some of my food unaccessible unless I removed the super-hot sizzling skillet. Not sure why they don't separate the meat skillet from the veggies, sour cream and guacamole. Overall the food is unremarkable. Only 2 of 4 finished their meals. My mahi, which was the daily special, was very dry. No refried beans, instead brown beans which don't go well in a fajita. Only three shells with no ask if I wanted more. The onions and green peppers were on the grill too long (which is probably why the fish was dry). No one came to ask how our food was during the prime period of eating. They were busy so we had to wait for a table to be cleared, about ten minutes at 6:45 on a Sunday night. Lot of boaters come in after a day on the water so the dress style reflects very casual. Good size parking lot. Cute fountain by the building. Great decorations inside. Very festive, which besides the lake view was the only other highlight. Service is not very good. My water sat on the outside of the table for almost ten minutes before someone came to refill and he just handed us the pitcher. They brought out one entree well before the other three. Don't be misled by the bartender Belinda, who clearly saw me looking at the happy hour menu when I ordered, the menu advertising that margaritas are $6 from 3pm to close, and said nothing about an up-charge when my husband and I ordered skinny margaritas at 4 p.m. We spent $74 on two rounds of margaritas and an order of taquitos. Table for 22 please on a Friday night. We sat outside on the patio with a cool breeze, a sick lightning show and some 2000's Reggaetón. Overall everyone seemed to have enjoyed their meals and drinks. Service was quite well giving the size of our party mostly adult so we ordered drinks as well I had some feedback on their steaks and to include mine were kind of overkilled and dry. I did not finish more than half of my meal as I just did not enjoy it at all. On the other hand the Guava frozen margarita was nice chips and salsa were given to the table, we ordered a bunch of the nachos and they seemed to be a hit. We arrived at around 4pm and were greeted immediately. The server approached our table very quickly and was attentive the entire time. Our food arrived very quickly as well. In total there were 3 meals and two margaritas ordered and it was about $75 total (w/o tip). We had a birthday and they sang and gave the birthday girl a hat and free dessert which was really nice. My chimichanga was delicious but you have to ask for the queso to be put on top, it doesnt come with it. The rice and beans were meh. Not pictured was a steak chimichanga w/o queso and steak fajitas. Both were good. Not too many people there when we arrived but it slowly started getting full throughout our dinner. The atmosphere and theme were really fun. Very colorful all around and there was inside and outside seating available and bars for both options. Excellent, attentive service. Food was just ok. We tried the guacamole, obviously freshly made: good but a bit bland. The chicken mole was interesting. Don Jose makes it with peanut butter. We tasted the guajillo chili and the peanut butter, lightly, but didn't get that chocolate richness. The chili relleno was full of chicken but perhaps not enough cheese? Served with a red sauce. Beans and rice are ok. We greatly enjoyed the salsa and the warm tortilla chips. Wait staff was great and kept refilling the salsa for us. Margaritas were ok but nothing special. Went there tonight had the chicken and steak fajitas, the worst I've ever had . Vegetables were over cooked sushy. The chicken cooked separately as was steak and placed on top of the vegetables! No sizzle on the cast iron pan . Meat was bland no flavor of the fajitas at all !! Was truly terrible. Waiter didn't give a rats ass either . I sent my meal back and the waiter never even offered a menu to order something different!! Horrible customer service!! Have eaten there before about a year ago and it was really good. For atmosphere, Don Jose Mexican Restaurant is pretty hard to beat. It is large and has a great water view. The place us right on a lake, so, again, the view is significantly better than at a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall on some busy highway (just an example). The food is pretty good. Nothing extraordinary, but it is good. The menu does not stray too far from the norm of what you would find at countless other Mexican restaurants, but that us not necessarily a bad thing. There is something to be said about enjoying the familiar dishes that you come to expect from a type of restaurant. Don Jose Mexican Restaurant will not disappoint you. It has an impressive view and the food is good. Add to that some friendly service and you have a winning combination. I would definitely recommend a visit here. read more

I only write an update when I want to change my stars. Most of my original 4-year old review is still valid but here are a couple of changes that caused me to go from three to four. These folks have always been known for 2 for 1 Margs. They're cheap as hell premixed basic Marg is still around but they have added a new to me premixed Premium Marg in a full-sized class. It was $8.37 total for two and they were very very good especially at that price. See my pic. For food, I ordered the Chicken Mole. It came with the ubiquitous beans and rice and they were both just fine. The chicken portion was substantial but the Mole Sauce, OMG the Mole Sauce! This stuff was straight from heaven. In addition to Mexican spices and chocolate it even included peanut butter in it! I know that sounds crazy, but this stuff is incredible! Is it better than sex with a Victoria's Secret model? This sauce is so good I'd have to think about it! Lots of my fellow Yelpers average 3.5 stars but it's four for me! read more
