I managed to bookmark this spot thanks to Norm K's review. Following the directions, I lost reception near the dam. There was a sign by the road marking it as closed, and I was about to turn around when I saw another car heading that way, so I decided to follow. It turns out the dam itself was closed to pedestrians, so walking across wasn't allowed. However, you can park on either side of the dam and walk around to enjoy the views. There isn't much in terms of amenities--no visitor center, restrooms, or informational boards--but the scenery makes up for it. The views were beautiful, with barely anyone around, and the warm weather in this area was a bonus. If you're planning to take the 10 Freeway, chances are you'll pass by this dam.

A real challenge to get a class A motorhome level. You would think when making a new campground the sites would be level. Most sites short only 37 ft. Today's rvs are much larger. If you have a trailer it easier to level. Most staff very helpful but the main ranger thinks he is a drill sergeant with attitude. We wanted to see the actual park before coming as this new loop we had never seen. We were at another state park and had reservations for this park. No way. You have to pick off the website that does not show accurately the way you will face. So our site got all afternoon sun. We couldn't even enjoy the outside with such hot conditions. Five star campground if sites were level and the jerk ranger wasn't here.

The park has improved since our first visit about 3 summers ago. We come here at least once and we all enjoy it, we get there early morning and leave right before closing. I may add, if you go during the summer, you MUST wear sun protection and bring lots of water, the heat is no joke. The water is really cold which is refreshing on a hot summer day. The staff is very friendly and informative, also very helpful!! My tent blew away during a little windy moment and they helped me bring it back while also providing tips to prevent it from happening again. In the past, we had to get there before the park opened to secure a spot and once capacity was met they didn't allow anyone to enter. This was tough since there were a couple times we didn't make it on time and had to go elsewhere. Now, things have changed, which is a lot more convenient. They only allow the people that have reserved online go in from 7am-11:30am. If you DO NOT have reservations, you will NOT be allowed in before 11:30. At 11:30 they will only allow you in if they haven't reached capacity and it's first come first serve. If you did RSVP and make it after 11:30am, you risk losing your spot since general people will be allowed in at that time.

It's a desert community without lakes rivers or water filled rushing streams. Beauty in the Desert has been ignored by many through the ages. We disputed Quartzite for the day. We enjoyed local restaurants, businesses geared toward freeway tourists and historical sites. With an 8 year old in tow we wanted some active playtime before loading up to head home. He had a blast! This park is clean, visitors clearly value this and are able to see garbage cans and use them! Hip hip Hooray a win for us all! Two shade covered play structures were a hit! Badminton net was in good shape, there seemed to be bourse shoe set up, a ball field with a stage in the outfield promised good fun! A dog park has its own Yelp Page. Skateboard basics , Basketball and More Restrooms located north of the dog park at first worried me... and perhaps there are hot summer days when they could be but the brick structure was not offensive! Cleanliness and full Toilet tissue, commodes which flushed adequately were much appreciated! Good ventilation and the fact that the interior of the ladies room was well lit. It is a safe park with two courthouses and the police department on the same street. You won't find a homeless problem here and no graffiti issues. Some of the things the park has to offer is a radio controlled car track, horseshoe pits, skate park, playgrounds, disc golf course, and even a fitness trail. The community has several functions in the park every year including a Veterans Day memorial event by the two big airplanes at the park's entrance. The park is open from sun up to sun set and several people use the park daily. The town does a great job in keeping the park up.
