I've never been to a hardware store where people are so helpful, and multiple people at that. They got creative with us. Helped us find what we needed. Had everything we needed and more. Very competitive in pricing versus others in town. Completely recommend for anything you need regarding outside projects, inside projects or general miscellaneous things. read more

Customer service: friendly and helpful. I always find the folks cheerfully ready to help. They will usually walk you to the item, not just tell you what aisle. Several folks in Gardening excel in knowledge of how to effectively grow various plants and trees around here, which can be tricky. Selection: big selection of garden stuff. Soils (including organic brands), flowers, herbs, bulbs, trees, pots, organic fertilizers, soil amendments, row cover sheeting, tools... Has a decent selection of items in other departments; It's not the size of a huge box store, so it can't carry their extensive variety, but I generally find what I need. Many different bird seed blends, which are reasonably priced when you have a coupon or it's on sale. Prices: generally high at all the Ace stores without a sale or coupon. We have two other hardware stores in Taos, and a feed store, where we can compare prices if they have what we need; but that takes extra time and energy. It would be so much better if Ace would charge more realistic prices. Driving to Espanola or Santa Fe costs in gas, time, and fatigue for our many older folks, especially if they have health problems. They in particular shouldn't have to try to handle these high prices. Service is friendly and helpful. Selection is good for a small store. Prices are high. read more

Horribly treated. Attempting to purchase an item the cashier could not find the UPC to scan. She proceeded to search for the item on the computer. I asked her what she was looking for she said there was no UPC I pointed it out on the item where it was. She proceeded to charge me over double the price for a more expensive item I didn't purchase or have there at the register. I told her that wasn't the price and she said, " Yep that's the specs that's it." Instead of disagreeing I decided I would go check the item myself on the shelf, in case I had made a mistake because she seemed so certain. With the long line, I wrapped up the transaction and took my receipt and item to the shelf where they were. I was correct, she charged me for the wrong item. As I went to go back to the register and wait, the host told me I needed to wait in line behind 12 people again. Ridiculous. They had already overcharged me for the wrong item and when I had confirmed as such they wanted me to wait in line longer so they could fix their mistake. If someone makes a mistake and it's very clear it's their fault, I shouldn't be inconvenienced even more. Garbage customer service. read more

I read the negative comments here, and I understand. I've had some also. BUT, i have also had some super positive ones, that make me comeback. I read about the prices and I'm not too sure; yes you can sometimes drive elsewhere and get substantial savings, but not always by any means. And for purchases under $100.00, i feel like the convenience of Rio Grande offsets the price difference every time.Do your homework, if saving $15.00 is worth driving to Espanola and dealing with The nightmare that is Lowe's, or Santa Fe and Home despot, than do it. Frankly I will drive by Lowe's every single time if I can get it at RGA. I purchased a water heater last summer and Rio Grande beat everyone's price. When I need wood stove stuff, I can count on Rio Grande. They aren't perfect, but I prefer them to anywhere else in Northern New Mexico, especially Lowe's. read more

Visiting this store is like flipping a coin, you never know what kind of service you will get. And their burglar alarm goes off all the time. Usually in the late night hours. Sometimes they're nice sometimes they're rude and sometimes they'll just ignore you. read more

For a small town hardware and lumber store this Ace is awesome. I have literally built my house using the sound advice and guidance of their staff. Whether it is plumbing, electrical, sprinkler or drip irrigation, cement work, what plants grow good in this climate...I can always rely on helpful personal advice. I may have to wait to talk in depth with Albert or Laurie or any of their longtime employees but they will take as much time as I need to help me figure out my project. Even going online to help solve an issue. Rarely have I had a bad experience with their staff and when I return the grump is in a better mood ready to be of service. Other reviews complain about the short store hours and sometimes long lines, but that is part of living in a small community. We are lucky to have such a solid business in Taos...and as far as over pricing their goods... sure you can go to Wal Mart and they "might" have what you are looking for but it will be crappy quality and no one there has any knowledge or expertise on anything. read more

Rip off of a store. Prices are way higher than other stores. Most of their items don't have stickers or signs so you have no idea how much things cost. You stand in line for a long time to get checked out, then discover their prices are sky high for things you could get half price down the street. The manager said "There's no way we can put a price on every item--that would be too much trouble". However, every other store in the nation marks its wares with stickers or signs clearly marking prices. ACE wants you to get your things to the register in a price blind way in hopes that you won't back out at that point. This is deceptive and I urge you not to shop at ACE. read more

Good store , have a lot of merchandise but very,very messy. The help need to front and straighten the merchandise . I was looking for a PVC fitting and had to dig through several bins before I found what I needed. The label on the bin didn't match what was in the bins. read more

I've been to this store plenty and have seen the quality drop. The people in their paint area are extremely rude unhelpful and lack knowledge. I won't be purchasing from this store for awhile. read more
