Good morning, everyone. Join the boys from the VA Creative Writing Group as they venture to the northernmost environs in Albuquerque to RioTacos on Alameda. A step up from their former food truck, the staff has transitioned to a brick-and-mortar. Great food cooked by the owner himself. Friendly staff. Homemade flour tortillas! Very cute little place just east of Indian Motorcycle dealer. Counter service with table delivery. The staff was fantastic, even git napkins for us since it was our first time there. The food.....was delicious! Fresh and hot. I had the quesa-birria tacos. They were delicious. My friend enjoyed the asada burrito....she ate half and said she was going to eat the rest later....well it was so good she finished it while we talked. Highly recommend this tacoria.

Came on two different occasions to try the tacos. You order at the front before you sit down. Since it was my first time I wanted to try one of each taco. I visited on a weekend and there was a line out the door because there isnt much space inside and only one register. It did take awhile to get the order but there was some seating inside on the sidewall to wait. Staff was friendly and brought my order to me. These are the four I tried: Barbocoa 4/5 good flavor but not enough meat in the taco. Chicken 3/5 dry meat and not much flavor Al Pastor 4.5/5 juicy flavorful with onions and pineapple Carne Asada 3.5/5 also dry less flavor has some crisp to the meat. On a separate occasion I ordered Birria tacos to go online in case I had another long wait. The food was prepared quickly and was still warm when I got home. Birra 5/5 it had good filling and perfectly cheesey. It also came with consume and salsa. Definitely a favorite.

The Rio Grande quesadilla was huge and messy, but I had order envy of my husband's crusted tacos al pastor. Customer favorite must be the fish tacos because they were on every table. Would return for a fast taco fix but not my favorite al pastor in town.

The place is bright and clean. They had the garage door open to the patio on a perfect day for it. We were instantly helped when we came in by very nice staff members. The food came out within a few minutes of the order and was hot and very tasty. Five stars for a taco shop is a lot but I like the place.

Finding authentic Mexican food in Albuquerque has been a side quest since I moved here but RIO TACOS made my Mexican dreams come to life! The best tacos I've had here in ABQ! I highly recommend this place if you want homemade authentic Mexican cuisine. I had the quesabirrias, although they would have been great with onion and cilantro, everything was good as it came. A red cilantro sauce would have been great as an option! Service was great!

We have been supporting rios tacos for a while even since they were just a food truck. This small business run by a father and son team will blow your mind. First of all I want to let you know that unlike most little taco places, the owner has a real culinary background, and it shows in the artistry of the food. Every item at Rios tacos looks as good as it tastes and smells. The queso birria tacos stand out here as the best I've ever had anywhere I've gone in my life. You absolutely must try this item here. The quesadillas are also really great here and worth having along with your meal, so are the tacos of any kind. The barbacoa stands out as an amazing meat though, probably top 2 barbacoa in all of New Mexico and top 3 I've ever had anywhere. It's really really good and worth a try. For desserts their Sopapilla cheesecake is pretty good, but if I had one piece of feedback I would say the tres leches was a bit dry and could loose the whip cream on it. Tres leches is my favorite dessert so I eat it often and had to include some constructive feedback. But everything else is so great that my 5 star review sticks. It's hard to find a business like this in New Mexico so if you're reading this review, drop what you're doing and head down there!

This is more of a casual lunch counter. The Baja fish tacos were fried fresh, with generous red cabbage and lime. No salsa and no mayonnaise though. The birria was flavorful, as was the consomme. The accompanying salsa roja was tasty, as they char their ingredients. Sadly, they use a lot of single use plastics.

We decided to try the fish tacos and the breakfast burritos after seeing some pictures on Facebook. The place was pretty crowded for a Saturday at noon, but we found a place to sit. We were greeted right away and placed our order. The food took a bit to come out. We did notice that a huge party that came in after us had their food come out before ours. We figured it must be a simpler order. The food looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The first bite of my fish taco was a let down. It was very soggy, not the crunch like I was expecting for a crunchy tempura fried fish. But I did enjoy the smoky flavor of the sauce that they put on it. There was a lot of breading and not much fish. The burrito was very tasty according to my husband, but lacked the wow factor. He does not regret getting it. Overall, the staff was amazing, the restaurant was super clean, but it lacked the extra pizzazz that will make us visit again.

Being born & raised in LA i'm a bit critical of my street tacos - Rio did not disappoint! Tacos were loaded with flavor and a good amount of meat. But the crown jewel is their Torta... dont sleep on this!! The bread is soft, moist & chewy and it absorbs the sauces well so each bite just explodes in your mouth. My son had a bite it mine and made me order another one. Stoked thr NW valley finally has a legit taco spot

I'm always on the lookout for good tacos. These didn't disappoint. The pastor has a slightly different flavor than I'm used to, but it was packed with great flavor from the pork and pineapple, to the picked onions. I prefer my pastor to be cubed instead of shredded so that would be my only complaint but just a personal preference. The asada delivered a tender and flavorful punch. The tortillas were homemade and really upped the wow factor. The salsas that accompanied were fresh and subtly complimented the protein. read more

This place is street taco perfection! Friendly service, delicious traditional food and a really nice place to sit and enjoy lunch! We were fortunate enough to run across Rio Taco walking to the Balloon Fiesta. We were starving and the food was delicious! We had shrimp and fish tacos with tasty sauces. It was so good that we returned the following day.Out of alll the places we ate in Alberquerque and Santa Fe, this was truly the best New Mexican food we ate! We would highly recommend Rio Taco. First time trying out these tacos!!! We waited for them to open up and right when those windows opened we were there ! Stopped by this hidden gem that is close to my house. Neighbors had recommended this place and they were spot on with the advice to come here. The food was really good! I had the birria tacos and an horchata for my drink. The meat was well seasoned and the crunch from the fried cheese and taco shell complimented the meal. Will be coming back here again! read more

If you think the food in his food truck was good well, I've got good news for you all. Rio Tacos now has a brick and mortar location at 4545 Alameda NE in Albuquerque, and the menu is amazing as is the hospitality. Everything is made fresh with the best ingredients and for me to choose one menu item that stands out would be a disservice to all the other excellent entrees. Great desserts and beer and wine too. Holy cow I love the food Rio Tacos has. It's seriously the best catered tacos I've ever experienced. Aside from the great service, they make everything themselves. Let's taco bout the tortillas for a second. They make them fresh from scratch on site. They are outstanding. I saw someone eating a taco and after I did a double-take, noticed the tortilla was actually melted/crusted cheese!! This guy makes taco shells made out of cheese!!! It was next level but also had me torn because the hand made tortillas were also Soo good. The carne asada was my favorite meat but the chicken and pastor were also good. Their salsas are also all made from scratch. They have all the varieties of fixins you could possibly want/need and the elote was bomb too. Oh and how can I (almost) forget the stuffed jalapenos. My wife had to stop me after I ate about 6 and was about to explode from eating too much lol. I love these folks! You can tell they really care about what they do and take pride in the food they prepare/serve. Can't recommend them enough and can't wait to use them for our own event soon :) read more

I came to Tractor Brewery on the Westside and this food truck was parked outside. Some of the best tacos I've had. Fresh corn tortillas and fresh ingredients. The cook has his kids taking orders and they are like little marketing machines! I asked questions about the food and they were more knowledgeable then any waitress/waiter from any restaurant. I also ordered some chilequiles and the kids said they were like nachos on steroids!!! They were right!! Bomb ass food!!! read more

There is nothing better than eating some good RioTacos By far best tacos I've ever eaten. Amazing service, best freshly handmade tortillas, the best salsas. My personal favorite would have to be the RioPapa(cooked potatoe with whatever meat and melted cheese on top), and Asada Crust(1 tortilla with whatever meat and crusted cheese). Today I had Rio Tacos come to our business to serve lunch to all our employees. The food was fantastic. They arrived an hour prior to lunch and served 75 employees. These guys make for a really fun event. The food is fresh to order and ingredients are delicious. I went back for seconds and thirds even beyond the point of being full. We tried them at Tractor Westside (tried one of everything almost) before deciding to hire them for our wedding catering. Everything is so good! All the meats are very flavorful, homemade tortillas! Tortas are delish, along with the mulitas and quesadillas! Fernando and his family made our home wedding that much easier by handling all the food! Whether a stop at one of the breweries they set up at, or for a private event, could not recommend Rio Tacos more! read more

Tuesday night truck at Ex Novo. Decided to try chilaquiles. Menu said it's 10x better than nachos. Literally ruined nachos for me the rest of my life. They are delicious. So good. Chips were somehow magically still crispy but coated in sauce and seasoning. I used to really like nachos. Now Im going to think of these every time I eat a tortilla chip. I tried the tacos al pastor here. The tacos were well filled and garnished. Tacos al pastor should have pineapple on top and this is one of the few places that well serve al pastor with pineapple in the Albuquerque area. Staff was super friendly and our food was delivered promptly. Would definitely try again. read more

BEST tacos ever!!!!!!!! I've had the satisfying pleasure of indulging in the amazing food of RioTacos. The food is so tasty that I can't narrow down my favorite dish.....guess I'll just have to keeping tasting everything until I can decide. Aside from the delicious tacos, vampiros, burritos, etc RioTacos is great for catering! I got to know Fernando after my many late night taco runs and learned that he is a amazing chef. I had him cater my wedding and all of my guests raved about the food. Getting the food right at weddings is such a challenge because you can't please everyone but let me tell you, Fernando sure did. Every single adult and child (toughest customers) LOVED the food. He was able to compliment the theme so well and provided such satisfying dishes. Steak with chimichurri, lasagna, asparagus, roasted potatoes and some insanely scrumptious appetizers. Highly recommend RioTacos for a late night food runs and all types of catering events. read more

My inspiration is drawn from my passion towards food and my native Mexico. With a Culinary degree and and experience as a Chef in various restaurants, I would like to present you with food from the heart like no other. Henrique is sweet and came around to all the tables to check on everyone. The food was good. My husband had the taco appetizer which consisted of 4 mini tacos which were all delicious. I had the mole which was good, however after being spoiled by a particular Santa Fe restaurant and their mole, I have high standards for mole. My other issue was I asked for a tortilla which didn't come until we were ready to go. I thought I was getting the soft ones my hubby had but instead got the blue corn ones which were very hard and not made to eat with mole. The veggies and rice were yummy. I have been with some girlfriends for lunch another time and my food was better at that visit. We will go back and try other items. The place was packed and had a beautiful mural on the far wall.
