Heard great reviews of Rio Tacos - so we tried it for midweek lunch. Business location was ideal on Alameda and parking was good. Was greeted by a friendly worker upon entering and he explained the menu - and the popular items. I had the birria queso taco plate and my wife had the chicken burrito. Both were delivered quickly from the clean, orderly, and readily visible kitchen. Owner/Chef was friendly as well. BL: The food tasted amazing! The quality of the restaurant was confirmed! On a road trip from California and decided to give this place a try. Let me just say, as someone from California who is surrounded by plenty of Mexican restaurants and trucks... this is one of the best ones I have ever had. Flavors were so satisfying, even without the house salsa. The burrito was $11 and was a great portion size. The crusted quesadilla was around $4 and offered such a unique texture and experience. We had to get round 2 of the crusted quesadilla. Service was superb. The owner's son took our order, was helping prepare food, brought our meals to us, and was even wiping down tables. I really appreciate that this is a well-run family owned and operated business. They truly deserved to upgrade from a food truck to an actual establishment. Restaurant also had an indoor-outdoor area which added a nice ambiance to the place. These guys rock! read more

MULITAS!!! Rio Tacos truck has 'em. I made the pilgrimage to Marble Brewery West on Unser Blvd to catch Fernando and Fernando (big & pocito) of Rio Tacos specifically to try their mulita. Think quesadilla where the cheese drools out the edges & gets toasted on the flat top. Another whole level of cheesy tastiness! I chose chicken as the protein of the day & went inside to grab a pint of Marble stout while waiting for the mulita magic to happen in the truck outside. I had also grabbed a chocolate flan from the RT compadres, but I exercised restraint to not eat it until the end of my meal. (And restraint is the *only* exercise I get these days!) Mulita had great toasty cheese flavor with each bite. Chicken flavor was overwhelmed enough that it only rang in occasionally. IIRC there was some onion & bell pepper'ish action going on in the texture arena to keep the mulita on the moist side. At $5 a hit on the mulita, I will def be hittin' the RT gang up again. Crazy tasty fare at a killer price. Yes, yes, and more yes! Choco-flan was really good too. Very moist chocolate cake base layer propping up a thinner layer of vanilla rich pudding capped with a film of caramalized sugar. The two little wedges of peach tucked in the top were distinctly not sweet (as in drenched with sugar syrup) that allowed their peachiness to speak clearly on the tongue. Rio Tacos comes out to our clinic every once in a while and their food is seriously amazing! Their tortas have a cheese crust on the inside of the buns which gets nice and crispy. The toppings are plentiful and flavorful. I've also tried their vegan chorizo burrito which was also delicious. There was a nice meaty texture to the soyrizo and the burrito was huge for the price. You can tell a lot about a Mexican restaurant by their beans. The beans here were the faintest color of beige, not brown like the pinto beans I'm used to. And when you serve whole beans and their juice inside a tortilla and call it a burrito...yuck...it's a kind of tortilla soup that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Mash those babies up! ($7 for a bean and cheese burrito that is made this way is just a crime.) I love quesa birria tacos. I will drive clear across town for good birria anything. The quesa birria tacos looked like the real deal but tasted like plain ol' roast beef with some cheese. No salt, no spice. The caldo had some onions and cilantro sprinkled on top, but those two strong ingredients didn't add any flavor to what was otherwise beef bouillon. I will say that the sweetest lady greeted us when we came in as she was making fresh corn tortillas. We placed our order and our food came out rather quickly. I was excited when this business moved into Alameda. Unfortunately when we tried the Chilaquiles and chicken tacos they were a flop. The Chilaquiles are not the traditional NM style they are a bunch of chips with chile and your choice of meat on top. The chicken taco was cold since the food is not made fresh it's warmed up and obviously my taco was lacking heat. Disappointed. This is definitely a place to come if you want food poisoning. I am honestly honored to be the first Yelper to highlight this business. They are the new Friday night food truck at Tractor West Side Brewery. We decided to sample several items and everything was truly OUTSTANDING. It is rare that I find food that I feel is seasoned well and this is absolute perfection. The Asada is tender and seasoned perfectly. In addition to traditional street tacos they offer a stuffed baked potato. Perfectly seasoned and cooked and loaded with your choice of taco toppings. I got asada and it came with cheese and two kinds of salsa. Best thing I've eaten in a very long time. The crusted quesadilla with a cheese skirt loaded with your choice of taco toppings. Sooo good. Thrilled we discovered this place and know where to find them from now on. For now they are Tuesday - Ex Novo, Wednesday- Gravity Bound and Friday - Tractor West Side. Their tacos are excellent - tender and flavorful meats with a variety of staple Mexican toppings. Their menu has expanded and the new space is modern, open and has a great relaxed vibe.
