Best drink I've had in a while and I don't even like matcha like that ... I'm definitely coming back to try more beverage options

Ripple Cafe is all about the vibes. The beautiful natural decor and R&B music transport you to a different world and instantly puts you in a good mood. It's an oasis among the Ashmont area and features a black women owned business. The coffee is solid here. The cappuccino was smooth and nicely balanced. The almond croissant was nice as well especially when warmed up. I didn't get a chance to work out of here but it's on the louder side so not ideal for calls. I think you are also limited to 60 min of wifi as well but if you are an Xfinity internet customer, you can use their hot spot here.

    The description of the bowl

This review is for the Cambridge location. I ordered the jerk turkey tip bowl with djon djon (black rice) and a Haitian patty. Prior to going there I looked at the pics because I know that when food is served in a predominantly white area, it tends to be served different/ in an inauthentic way. I looked at the pics and was like ok, the rice appears to be legit. So I order the bowl and got double rice instead of the salad. I open it at home and this is what I found. Some uncle Ben's tasting white rice with green peas. Not a tint of black to it. Almost $20 for a bowl and I wasn't provided with what I ordered. I ate the turkey tips (which heads up it isn't an actual jerk taste. It is sweet with a clove and pepper taste). And I ate the Haitian patty which was actually good. Side note, I've had the coffee in Dorchester which is delicious so I'm not knocking the establishment altogether but the bowl was atrocious, the rest went in the trash. The pickliz were not at all spicy and the rice was mushy and flavorless. I called the only number provided on their site (the Dorchester location) and I left a message because they didn't have a number for the Cambridge location to provide. I was told someone would call me back and heard absolutely nothing which is disappointing. My money went to waste and I don't appreciate that no one reached out to discuss this.

Definitely recommend the pistachio vanilla latte here! It was really good, a bit on the sweeter side but nice balance of flavors. Didn't have to wait long for my drink either! It did seem like it was a bit of a wait for food though.

theres that xmas tree that made my day ;)

Usually when a cafe is directly across major public transit, the atmosphere is harder to maintain (in my guesstimation due to higher traffic/ppl asking to use the restroom, etc) but this space was a pleasant surprise. I was an hour early for an appointment for the first time in my life and didnt know what to do with myself, so walked in. Side note: I do have a secret weakness for pink xmas trees. yes, its Feb. but why cant it be xmas all year round, I say. Ambiance: positive vibe cashier and sandwich-maker woman who had a bright smile. Ppl here were chill/not yappy. Though I did come in on a weekday so wkends might differ. Food: I got the Pistachio Walnut Muffin w Moroccan Mint Tea. (Love the two tea bags. The muffin was on the sweet side but thats what I get for not listening to the cashier who reced the corn muffin instead) but it was Moist, wasn't swimming in almond extract, and had nice crunchy walnut texture bits. I also love that the yelp community is intentional about supporting Black, Woman owned businesses. If I had to offer one crit, it would be to offer a few other creative bakery options. My dream would be for Clear Flour(brookline) to offer BIPOC business connections in the greater Boston region so that all stellar cafes like Ripple can offer high end, affordable, creative bakery options

Bummed because it was raining and they weren't letting anyone sit inside because it was "reserved". It was a little weird to watch a few guys sit all by themselves with a bunch of empty seating around them. We went during the morning rush on a weekday. It was obvious the baristas were new, they didn't have much of a flow. In the time we were waiting, several people were confused/trying to get an order fixed. The menu is simple but solid. I got a cinnamon roll and my friend got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Both items were good, nothing impressive, nothing to complain about. We both got a latte, again, no complaints. The place was averagely trendy. Overall a fine place if you are in the Ashmont area, not really worth a trek to otherwise.

My colleague and I met at Ripple Cafe for a work meeting. We wanted to support a Black-owned business in the neighborhood. I'm not a coffee drinker so I got a berry smoothie and a muffin. The smoothie was great, and the customer service was amazing. I live nearby, so I'll definitely be going back soon. I had already had breakfast, so I wasn't hungry, but someone recommended the hash browns and breakfast sandwich, so I'll try that next time. (The hash browns are popular and they run out often).

Case in point--the turf bagel. I love it so much that sometimes it's hard for me to order anything else. Drinks are a mixed bag for me. Their matcha (hot or iced) is solid, but I always need to sweeten it. The limeade was too bitter for my taste, and the rickey-style drink didn't quite hit my sweetness preference either. Chai (both hot and iced) is nice, but definitely add vanilla. Next on my list to try? The grilled cheese. I've been coming here for years, and the space is not big, but when it gets packed -- good luck. There are barstools facing the window and smaller tables throughout, but navigating the space can be tricky, so I wouldn't call it fully accessible. Still, the atmosphere makes up for a lot--it's got that community café element that I personally love. Overall, Homestead is the kind of place you want to experience for yourself: come for the food (which will always deliver), try the drinks with your own preferences in mind, and soak in the sense of community.

Sweet Sip definitely met our expectations that day. I got the dark and stormy milk tea which came with honey boba. It was interesting to see that you could add free toppings to your milk tea which you rarely see elsewhere. I added the passion fruit jelly and pudding. Unfortunately there were no options in the delivery app to adjust for sweetness or ice so we got the drink as is. It was very well made but was sweeter than I'd prefer (my sweetness level is 70%). However because our accompanying dinner was spicier than expected, the sweetness of the drink actually helped us! I also ordered the mochi eggpuff with pandan flavor. I'm not sure if I could taste the pandan but the eggpuff was delicious. Again, sweeter than I'd typically like but the texture was great - crunchy outside with a chewy mochi filling. We had leftovers and it heated up excellently the next day in our simple toaster oven. This was intended to be a fun add-on to our meal and turned out to be quite essential - glad we tried them out!

Inside the deep narrow space there were two tables along the right in the front area. Very utilitarian. Not gussied up at all. Fridges on the left held some drink options and other chilled items. I walked up to the Vietnamese sub station where a gloved lady was restocking some cold cuts and waited to order my lunch for $4.50. A sign posted informed me that if I had the appetite, I could have gotten one of Chau's sandwiches free if I were to order 10. The crisp roll seemed a tad larger than what I was used to. It wasn't toasted, but was spread with lots of the creamy white spread, before a generous portion of the beef I requested was added. The sub was also well filled with a sauce, scallions, pickled carrots and daikon, and cucumber. I had asked them to omit the spicy and cilantro, and to go heavy on the veggies. A second lady behind the counter took my $5 and gave me my change. My order was handed to me in a bag complete with a couple of napkins. Turns out the beef was cool as well, so that's something that New Saigon in Chinatown offers that tops Chau - that and the toasted bread. But still, my sub was tasty and well filled, and my stomach full for $4.50. So I was content.
