I had a bad experience with this business and now every time I drive by this place, I feel myself…read moregetting upset. So I finally decided to "get even" and write a review. My husband and I bought some adult fitness packages (punch passes) for like $400+ around January 2013 for some group kickboxing classes. When we signed the contract, it said "no refunds". However, I found out I was pregnant in March 2013. (I obviously had no clue when we bought the packages). Since the classes are pretty high impact and intense, I only used a couple of the "punch pass visits". The package definitely wasn't cheap, and I felt like it was a complete waste of money at this point, so I thought I would call the owner and discuss some options. I knew I wasn't going to be able to get a complete refund because I signed the contract. However, I was hoping he could just extend the expiration date, so I could just attend after I had my baby, or offer a partial refund, or something. Here are where my complaints come in.... 1) I called the owner like four times in a month to discuss my options (left a couple messages) and got no response!!!! I thought the owner was just filtering my calls since I was asking for a refund of some sort. But he eventually called me back and said he "was out of the county for a while". So why didn't he put an "away message" on his phone stating this? That's pretty common practice these days and really easy to do. What a terrible way to run a business!! It was extremely annoying! 2) the owner absolutely refused to work with me and offered me no refund of any kind and didn't even just say I could come a couple times for free after I had my baby. I know he wasn't obligated to do this for me, and I did sign a contact. But it just seems like the right thing to do. And if he would have done that, I might have become a repeat customer and bought another punch pass. But I can tell you I am definitely Never stepping foot in that place again after this experience, and he will never get a dime from me for my kids taking karate classes from him. I definitely feel like I got ripped off!!! I felt pressured to buy the package in the first place (I thought it was expensive and kind of binding and I should have just followed my gut instinct). And I can't believe he was so unwilling to work with me on some sort of refund. Anyway, I thought I should caution anyone looking into this place for your kids or yourself. Be aware!

Sensie jennette takes the time with each student to get them to there goals of physical and mental aspects of martials arts. Its an amazing environment that keeps you coming back to every class you can, without the ground and pound mentality you find at other places. He was kind and patient, willing to explain his philosophy in running the dojo, and the expectations for the kids. My son sometimes has trouble focusing, so I've appreciated the way that the kids classes include and integrate younger instructors who turn around and learn to teach others, in addition to working on their own martial arts. The dojo can sometimes be a bit chaotic - especially with younger students - but I really have liked the way that there is a clearly thought out graduated level of difficulty. Younger kids will progress further before getting into kata, but as they get to appropriate age groups, they pause and need to "catch up" to the belt level with the things they weren't ready for before. This can feel "loose" and kind of sloppy at first, when your kid is testing into yellow belt and yet still sometimes lazy or inconsistent at form - at least it did to me - but having spent more time taking my son to classes, I understand a bit more the reason and intent behind operating this way. The kids stay engaged and motivated, and as they get older and learn more, they are still held to the same level. There's no easy path, its just a more motivating journey that's built to be age appropriate.
