More like Risdon'ts Summary: No accountability, no apology. Never again. Entire car searched - without permission - then being further disrespected by the owner yelling at you in the middle of the garage. Not sure what his deal is, but none of that was okay. I came here today for a routine oil change and tire rotation. When I called to schedule this two days ago, I gave the make and model of my vehicle since sometimes they need to order in a special filter or part. The owner assured me they had everything. I'm all for supporting local businesses, and while I've only gotten gas here for decades, my family has also brought in vehicles for oil changes and similar basic services. I told the owner I'd wait in the little table area they had out front and the key was in the car for them. Partway through, he came to get me to show me the wear on the front tires and suggested skipping the tire rotation and paying more to get new front tires. Sure, no problem, let's do it. Thank you. I went back to the waiting area. A while later, another guy came out to ask me if I knew where the lug nut key was so they could remove the tires. I asked if they'd checked in the back where the spare tire was. He said they had and couldn't find it. We walked over and I was immediately surprised to see that my tools and personal items from my car were out on the ground and they were putting them back in my car when we walked up. I looked in what were the logical spaces next to some car tool kits, but no luck. They told me they'd already checked everything, and when I looked up, I saw that someone was rifling through my glove box and then saw that my personal items were all moved around in the front, the doors, and center console areas of my car as well. They clearly took the liberty to look through ALL of my car, without thinking to take a few steps to where I was and updating me prior and asking if they could look since they didn't have the needed tool. I kept it cool and simply mentioned to the guy rifling through my glove box that I'd prefer he didn't do that. I then saw the imprint of a greasy hand on my front seat where someone had previously leaned to look through the now disheveled center console. Once it was clear that the needed part was not somewhere in a kit in the car, I asked the owner for a clean towel. I wanted to wipe the grease from my seat. He brought it over, I wiped the seat, then thanked him again as I handed it back. Clearly all of my personal items and space had been searched through and while I felt violated and that being asked permission would have been nice, I kept focused on trying to find a solution for this missing part. When it was clear the tires would not be removed since they didn't have the part, and the kit I had didn't have it, I thanked him again and asked him for the receipt. The oil change was $165 and some change. I kept calm at that price tag, thanked him one last time, then asked him where I was supposed to pay. At that point I shared, "I want to share some feedback so that you are aware - I would have preferred if you asked me first before going through my car." He immediately exploded in the middle of the garage, to the point that I gently raised my hands as a gesture of wanting to de-escalate. He blew right past that and said that he was watching the whole time and that they put everything back and that since my key was in the car, they could do whatever they needed as part of the service. I told him that I understood leaving the key, of course, so that they could move the car, but didn't understand that to give permission to go through all of my personal items and entire car. I attempted again to come back to my point that it would have been nice to have been asked - especially since I was right out front. He immediately snapped back, still yelling, saying that he wasn't going to "debate me" and that it was my responsibility to tell him upfront if I was going to be "sensitive." I was in disbelief. What was the disconnect? He continued to yell at me, blame me. It was clear the owner didn't give a shit. I told him that I was done and that this was extremely unfortunate and could have gone very differently. I didn't feel safe - forget feeling respected. Was I missing something? If I have a leaking sink and I let in a plumber to fix the sink, then come back to check and find that they've gone through all of my cabinets and drawers with greasy hands and looked through my entire apartment because they needed a part, would that be my fault for not having the part and for not saying at the start that I was "sensitive" to what I assumed was basic communication and decency? I couldn't wait to pay and be out of that incredibly disrespectful space. Again, this was incredibly unfortunate and could have gone very differently. As I got back in my car, I saw the fresh fruit I'd brought with the original intention to gift as an additional thank you. No accountability, no apology. Never again. read more

Restored faith in humanity. For the record, this is my second glowing review of Risdon's 76 Service & Car Wash. In a world where people seem to interact less and less, generally aren't that interested in being helpful to strangers, and just when I thought customer service was officially dead, Risdon's restored my faith in humanity! Having been a customer on and off over the years, I moved away from Carp so I haven't been there as often lately. I had an issue with my tire when I was on the road, and I thought I'd stop in. Feeling worried and vulnerable, I had a hunch I could get some help at Risdon's. When I pulled up to the gas pump, Chris approached me right away and asked me if he could help me. Before I knew it he was pumping my gas and helping me address my tire issues. I was so relieved I thought I may as well treat myself to a car wash while I was there. Everyone who helped me in the office said hello and asked how I was. Such a refreshing experience! Again, in a world where this kind of service is becoming less of the norm, it was so nice to be treated so professionally. This review is actually in praise of Risdon's affiliated Carpinteria Tire & Wheel, located at 516 Palm Ave. I was driving from LA to Santa Barbara and suffered a "tire malfunction", meaning my run flat tire had broken down (holding basically no air pressure), but could still be driven for a while. Google maps got me to the Tire & Wheel location, where I was fortunate enough to come under the care of Anna. She didn't have a replacement in stock, but she got on the phone and called several places, finally locating one in Santa Barbara. My buddy picked it up and brought it in, where Anna and the guys (all of whom were also terrific) got it mounted in around twenty minutes. Having my tire blow out like that was a bad break, but I was incredibly lucky to end up with Anna at Carpinteria Tire & Wheel. read more

Do not go here. I was helping my friend, he had run out of gas, and the modern safe gas tank of jeep requires a longer funnel to be able to pour gas from a can. This 76 station had one, but told me they could only loan it to me at the station where they could watch. I offered my license, credit cards, cash deposit. They would not loan this to me. The only reason for a service station is to help you out with your car. And though I offered all financial accountability possible, they would not loan me a 5 dollar funnel. Would not sell me one. They do NOT deserve our business. Go anywhere else. Unless you support this service in Carpinteria. Then by all means, give them your money. read more

However, finding for the past year the car wash price is different every time I go in, although I'm in the same car every time. Seems to be a "negotiation" around price, every time.... 7 man crew, 2 mins after closing (not to mention I pulled in to pumped gas so, I was actually there before closing) and they refused emergency tire service. While on a road trip I found a HUGE nail in the side of my tire while pumping gas here (before closing) You'd think "wow! What luck to get gas here, with the tire service RIGHT HERE". The man inside just stared blankly at me and said they were closed even though I told him I'm on a road trip, 100 of miles away from home, and need an EMERGENCY tire change, "sorry we JUST closed" was the only words he said to me then mumbled a street name when I asked if there was another tire spot nearby. As leaving I saw the 7 man crew directing a clean car out of their garage so I decided to ask them because I remember someone telling me a shop has to take emergency tire changes, but they all just stared and said the same thing. I thankfully found BEACH MOTOR & TIRE 3 mins away! Only 169$!!!!! After reading another review for this spot they changed them over $200!!! Beach Motor only had a 2 man crew, who saved the day, and don't run a racket. After reading reviews to this place and re-tracking the moments in my mind I wouldn't be surprised if I picked up that nail on their road! I have a feeling I ended up with the better choice (feeling confirmed!) but don't waste your time trying here. I was so appalled they let me drive away with that nail and just me and my kid in the car. "Emergency" means nothing when you're working for a company on the clock. I needed a tire on a Saturday in Carpinteria. They overcharged me nearly 100% compared to prices in Ventura or Santa Barbara, but I paid it so I could be back on the road and meet my work obligations. They charged me $225 to buy & mount one small Honda tire, that fell apart after 20,000 miles. Went to Ian's tires in Santa Barbara the next time, it was $250 for two tires of much better quality. Risdon's is defined as old school service. Reliable, trustworthy, very professional. Great tire service, new tires, repairs or rotation. Great oil change service, or other maintenance needs. They will perform excellent service and are straight shooters on what is needed when your car is on the fritz, or just when a check-up is needed. Risdon's is a neighborhood gem. They always jump in and help whenever needed! The car wash is just simply the very best hand wash around. They pay close attention to detail and will deliver a real clean transporter every time. They do go the extra mile. They are what the term "Service Station" is all about. This gas station is conveniently located adjacent to the 101 freeway, Santa Monica exit in Carpinteria. It is so easy to get to, and even easier to get back on the freeway! Ease of access is just one perk of this station, the best perk is that you will experience true customer service...the kind that few businesses care about anymore. I stopped to get gas on my way to the airport to pick up precious cargo...my son and his roommate. I am driving my husband's pick up and it needed gas, but it also needed air in the tires. As I began my transaction at the pump and very kind gentleman assisted me by explaining the credit card machine on the pump. I asked if he could help me put air in the tires and he told me to drive around back when I was finished pumping gas. I did what I was told and he had a worker check my tires and fill them. He also explained that the weather can affect the tire pressure. It made sense and I appreciated the information. I tipped the worker, asked the kind man his name and continued my journey to the airport! Thank you again Don for proving that customer service is still alive! I recently bought 4 new tires from this establishment. They provide excellence service. When one of those tires accidentally blew up and went flat I had to use my spare and take the car and tire back to this establishment for A replacement. The website of Continental Tires states that the tire is under warranty for the first 12 months and they will completely replace the tire within 12 months if the tire is unfixable. As the consumer and purchaser you just need to take the tire back to the establishment where you purchased the tire and they are responsible for the free replacement. That Did NOT happen with this service station. They refused to replace the tire and had a BIG BAD BULLYING attitude about the issue. So much to the point I felt threatened by the owner. Heck the owners are even kind of "neighbors" who live near the family home. Well, I am down visiting my terminally ill mother and my car indicates that it needs an oil change. I get a quote which is high compared to my local very competent mechanic but I go for it. Once on the rack, the B.S. begins and the quotes starts going up for things they think need done AND there is a change in the original estimate because my car has a special oil filter - complete bullshit. The whole thing came up to around $100. Given what I was going through, I just put up with the b.s. Mayberry rip off owner and paid it. He even had the gall of being real chatty and chummy with me when he keep coming up with B.S. price hikes. Like I said, I am very knowledgeable regarding car repair, but I was just not in the mood to call him on his small town huckster B.S. and to insist that my car be taken down from his torture rack so I could find an ethical garage to deal with. Where I live. I get a complete oil change, new filter, tires checked and rotated, and a carwash for $35. To top it all off, my mechanic is polite, professional and most importantly ethical. Omg!!! It took ONE hour to wash my car!!! I went as the car was opening thinking I'd be in and out, and I was totally wrong!!! There were 8 people working the car wash, and were moving in slow motion, socializing with people they knew, all the while cars were piling up. My husband and I own a small moving business where we transport antique cars across the country. We also are teamed with a fuel service that only accepts certain fuel from gas stations. We were transporting an antique Mini Cooper. The "owner" came up and ripped the fuel line from our gas cap and cursed that we were not educated enough to get gas there with our trailer, then ranted continuously about how he was the owner and flagging people away while doing so. I'd understand if you were an employee having a bad day... But you're the owner?!!! My husband kept his cool, but for the sake of the matter we called our distributors because I've never heard that foul of language coming from a business owner over myself and my husband just trying to get gas over a trailer!
