As a parent, I often felt that concerns raised with school administration, including Mrs. Monaco and Mrs. Tin, were not addressed in a constructive or supportive manner. In my opinion, communication with our family was frequently difficult, and I did not feel that our concerns regarding our children were given the attention they deserved. Rather than feeling like partners in our children's education, we often felt dismissed when legitimate concerns were brought forward. Over several years, we attended multiple meetings seeking assistance and resolution. We also met with our parish priest on three separate occasions. He was compassionate, understanding, and supportive of our son. Unfortunately, despite those meetings, we did not see meaningful improvements in the issues that prompted us to seek help. We made every effort to resolve concerns through the appropriate channels before reaching the point of sharing our experience publicly. Another major concern for our family was the academic preparation provided by the school. My daughter was an Honor Roll student throughout her time at St. John Baptist de La Salle, yet when it came time to prepare for high school entrance exams, she felt completely unprepared in math. We ultimately had to hire a private tutor to help her learn material that we believed should have been covered more thoroughly in the classroom. As a parent, it was frustrating to see an Honor Roll student struggle with entrance exam preparation despite years of private school tuition. In our experience, there was a significant gap between the grades students received and their actual readiness for more rigorous academic programs. Based on our experience and conversations with other families, I have concerns about whether students are being adequately prepared for competitive high school admissions. The final year was especially difficult. During a time when families were already dealing with serious concerns involving student safety and an ongoing investigation, the school's focus seemed to be on discipline rather than compassion. My son was required to serve a detention during Junior Olympics, one of the final graduation activities. Even after completing the detention, he was not allowed to participate in the remaining event and was forced to sit and watch while his classmates continued. Watching him be excluded from one of the last experiences of his middle school years was heartbreaking. In addition, despite repeated requests made both in person and through email, I was unable to obtain copies of my son's disciplinary records and student file. As a parent, I believe I should have access to information regarding my child's disciplinary history, especially when decisions affecting graduation activities were being made. A school should be a place where children feel supported, parents feel heard, and academics prepare students for future success. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. My hope is that the school, its administration, and the Archdiocese take a serious look at the concerns being raised by families and work toward improving transparency, communication, accountability, student support, and academic standards. After several difficult years, I am relieved that this chapter is behind us and that my family has moved on. I would like to bring to your attention the malicious behavior I received from your staff while…read moreattending the 7:30am mass on 1/24/24.   I've been a Parishioner here for over 38 years and am also married at this parish.  I am concerned about how I was treated when having handicapp access to handicapp parking spaces.  I parked in the designated handicapp spot next to the office, when I was abruptly and rudely intruded by a short Asian woman from the office and a Caucasian woman who ambushed me saying I couldn't park there because children were present when the parking lot was completely empty and there were no children in sight.  I expressed that I was parking legally in a designated handicapped space and I was going to be late for mass from there ambush.  To deescalate the situation I moved my car to opposite side in another handicapp parking spot where the Caucasian and Asian woman were satisfied and I proceeded into the church to attend mass rushing and limping to the entrance.      When I came out of mass at around 8:30am I see a African-American security personnel standing next to my car, and I as approach him he informed me that the two ladies from earlier told him that I wouldn't move my car and had him wait there for me till I came out of mass to tell me that I can never parking there again.  This harassment and malicious act I received from these two women represents our parish which is unacceptable and won't go unnoticed. This was a direct and deliberate willful act of mercilessness of noncharity against another disabled Parishioner which goes against our faith.    Let me reiterate that I am capable of elevating this matter to the pertinent legal authorities if I don't get an apology or if this happens to me again or another parishioner in the future.

It was our first time putting our son in non-family childcare and so understandably we were a bit nervous, however watching him grow and come home and talking about his friends is simply amazing. Crossroads is located at the church (Methodist), and they do teach age-appropriate bible learning. My family is non-denominational, however I think it is important to expose children to different things/teaching. My son will come home and explain to me the stories that he has heard (IE Jonah and the Whale) and also the teachings that he has heard (Sharing, Being Kind..all things that EVERYONE should know and SUPPORT!). Ms. Gordon (the program Director) explained that they would be sharing the teachings, but also that the program is open to everyone regardless of belief. I honestly find it very cute to hear a 4-year olds recollection of a Bible Tale. The staff is all awesome. Ms. Gordon, Ms. Theresa, Ms. Elizabeth. Mr. Ron (the cook) is literally all my son talks about. He gets snack and lunch provided by the school and it is often things like quesadillas, sliders, fruit, vegetables, milk, cereal, granola bars. It has definitely increased the types of food my son is willing to try. Communication from the school is awesome and they take safety as a top priority. I've had a few times where my son has fallen and scraped a knee and I have always gotten an accident/incident report and he always tells me that "teacher" takes care of it and put on a bandaid or a cool pack. Every once and a while the school will have events for parents (hindered by COVID obviously) but we have had Muffins in the Morning and got to go and join our student to make crafts, I really do love these events. The school takes a lot of COVID precautions (sanitizing, hand washing, and all adults wear masks) and I appreciate that the children do not have to wear masks (I personally feel its unrealistic to expect small children to wear masks all day in the California heat). There have only been 2 COVID incidents (one student as close contact to a family member, one confirmed case) since the pandemic began, and I think that speaks volumes for how much the staff cares and takes care of the school. Also, when there was a shutdown due to a case the school was very open and realistic in reaching out to parents and coming to an agreement (individually with each affected family) regarding tuition re-imbursement/payment for that month. Also the price is very, very, very, good for the quality of care and the learning and fun that my son gets to have there. Overall, I have nothing but good things to say about Crossroads and their staff. I really do recommend them for childcare.

The school does not take bullying serious and it almost cost my daughter her life…read more My daughter attended this school from freshman year to half of her senior year. We knew girls that left because of bullying but my daughter did not experience it until her senior year. My daughter lost her father to cancer when she was 10. On her senior year, her best friend's dad was hospitalized due to diabetes and passed away. My daughter was close to them so she went to see him at the hospital but it brought back memories of seeing her own dad at the hospital and losing her own dad. She grieved his loss deep because she was also grieving for her own dad all over again. Her best friend told all the girls that my daughter was faking her grief and just wanted the attention on her so the whole 12th grade completely stonewalled my daughter not knowing what my daughter was going through. Teachers noticed she was crying in school because she lost her friends and was being ignored by none stepped in. One offered for her to spend lunch in the classroom but didn't try to stop the bullying. I spoke to the counselor many times and the principal and asked them to stop the bullying, but they said ignoring is not bullying (which it is when it's a whole group against one person). I tried to educate them on it and the anxiety her classmates were causing my daughter at school. I took her out of the school thinking it would help but she attempted to take her life when she felt her world (school and friends) ending. The entire staff needs training on bullying so they can recognize it at first sight and stop it. Lives are at risk until they take this serious. My daughter didn't get to graduate with the senior class as she envisioned and didn't get to go straight into the college she selected because Louisville did not provide the support we needed. Louisville allowed the bullying at the time when my daughter needed love and support from her classmates and teachers. Before the bullying, she did not have anxiety or suicidal thoughts, she was happy, outgoing, active in sports, academics, church, and thriving. By reading some of the similar comments here and staff responses, it looks like the school still doesn't take responsibility for the bullying at this school and tries to make it seem like an isolated incident and not what they stand for, etc... but actions speak louder than words and they don't act on bullying even while it's happening in front of them.

This parcel is far more than vacant land--it is part of the historic birthplace of Granada Hills. The remaining historic structures have been allowed to deteriorate over the years, and it is heartbreaking to watch such an important piece of our community's history continue to decline. This is also not the first time this property has been at the center of controversial development proposals. For decades, the community has raised concerns about projects that would intensify use of this site despite its location in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone and the surrounding evacuation challenges. Many residents believe these concerns deserve far more consideration than they have received. As a neighbor, I have found Heritage Christian School to be largely unresponsive to the community's longstanding concerns about the property's condition and future. Instead of working with residents to preserve this historic site and find a solution that benefits Granada Hills, the property continues to be marketed for increasingly intensive development. This land represents an important chapter in our community's history. It deserves thoughtful stewardship, preservation where possible, and a future that respects both public safety and the heritage of Granada Hills--not another proposal that divides the community. I hope Heritage Christian School reconsiders its approach and becomes a better partner to the neighborhood it has been part of for so many years.

Our granddaughter is in her third year of attending Maria's Montessori. She's presently in the kindergarten class. She's doing very well academically, and seems to be thriving socially. She has many friends among her classmates. The school just held their holiday program in the chapel on the school grounds. We were treated to a delightful show presenting the students, including the littlest ones. Whoever did the set design created a magical space as a backdrop for the singing and dancing. Several of the (younger) kids were more interested in what they saw on the stage versus presenting their part of the program - that's how beautiful everything was. That's all part of the charm of the event. Their graduation ceremony this past summer for the kids was equally well done. It seems evident that the teachers and aides really care for the kids and want them to shine. Our granddaughter enjoyed performing and has been asking us to play holiday music in the car. She perks up when she hears any of the songs that were in the school program, so it's all resonating for her. We pick her up from school periodically and the class environment appears organized and supportive of the students' learning process.
