I was really nervous about kayaking down the river with my three young teens & my friend who was visiting from out of town. It was our first time kayaking & we didn't know what to expect on the river but Linda quickly put us at ease. She was very knowledgeable about the river & explained how to navigate it & things to look out for. We were shuttled to the launch site, given a quick lesson on how to hold & use the paddles & we were on our way. Despite the heat, the river was pretty cool (glad we brought insulated water bottles & a cooler with snacks). It was peaceful & the water was calm & we made it to the end without tipping over. We saw lots of turtles, birds, even a few cows taking a dip. At the end two huge blue herons flew across the river right in front of us...it was a great experience & we can't wait to do it again. Highly recommend this company- the reservation process was easy (we just called the day before) & the everything was provided (dry bags & life vests included), the price is very reasonable & the local knowledge was exceptional. read more

I have found my heaven! When I die I want to live forever at Rising Phoenix Adventures with all the supplies I need to kayak, bike, camp and fish... Seriously I wish I could live here. They have a huge selection of VERY reasonably priced used kayaks (below those selling on craigslist), awesome selection of bikes (from groovy cruisers to mountain bikes), camping and fishing supplies, cycling clothing, gloves, shoes and gear, and kayak rental and shuttle service. And they are very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed to shop with their humans and are allowed on the shuttle and rental kayaks! This is how it works for their rental shuttle service: 1. Determine the distance and type of water craft you want. 2. make your reservation 3. arrive at their location 4. sign waiver of liability (don't be scared by the "death" clause) 5. pay 6. watch safety video (required) 7. get fitted with appropriate sized life jacket (bring your own life jacket for the dog) 8. load into van (dog friendly) 9. they drop you off at the entry point (bring phone in a dry pack to call them to pick you up) 10. they pick you and your boats up and drive you back to the shop Awesome! We absolutely love this place! we were running late so called and they had no problem pushing back our reservation. Once she met us at the river she was amazing, she helped us load up our gear and our dog, told us where to go, where the best spot to stop and have our picnic was and where to met them to be picked up. We unfortunately had something beyond control happen that caused us to to turn and head back. We called them and they were amazing and followed us back to the starting point. Called for a reservation on Saturday and was driving down on Sunday ready to go! They were super helpful, laidback and sweet. We did the six mile trip and it took about 2.5 hours with the pup. It was an awesome relaxing trip and despite the utter lack of rain, we didn't hit any low points. Be careful or you will miss the road on the way down. Industrial Blvd is a gravelly type road with tan warehouse type buildings on it. It's easier to just take a left on Loop 150 and then turn left onto Industrial from the backside. read more

FANTASTIC Bike and Boat shop - these guys were super friendly and helped me get my bike up and running for $9.32!!! Gotta be honest if you go in for a repair and it's under $10!! They were extremely knowledgeable and offer great activities in some of the prettiest country around Austin! While I was in the shop they had everyone from beginners to a champion kayaker/biker who was riding cross-country stop in. He was telling me how lucky we were to have this place locally because they REALLY knew their stuff! (they were making some repairs to his bike) They also sell new bikes here and the guy was great about showing me something that would fit me best which was in the ballpark of what I could spend. SUPER friendly and welcoming and were very considerate of the cost - even recommended a less expensive alternative part which would fit my needs best. Can't say enough good about these guys - I had driven up to Austin to a "well-advertised" shop with my bike in my trunk and got there and the place had randomly closed for the day - somebody on the street asked me why I came all the way to Austin cause there was one of the best shops right there in Bastrop! Glad to find Rising Phoenix! I will definitely be a repeat customer! read more

Had such a great time. What a friendly, laidback, helpful company. I did the short trip this time, but am looking forward to coming back to do more of the paddle trail and overnight camp. Kayaking around this area is so beautiful. The community has done a great job making this a great getaway from Austin. This company is dog friendly and I'm definitely bringing my pooch next time. My husband and I just completed the 14-mile Willbarger paddling trail in a tandem kayak on July 29, 2017 and we could not have had more fun. Jami and Linda were both incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We felt very confident when we got on the water because of the great information and advice they both shared with us. We were actually running about 15 minutes late for our departure time and although they could have easily told us not to bother or that we would need to do the shorter trip instead, they were more than accommodating and still allowed us to complete the paddle trip we had originally planned for. This place is awesome! After renting a vacation home on the Colorado River we desperately wanted to cruise up and down it. Made a quick call to the Rising Phoenix and we were set for the following morning. 2 kayaks, a small cooler, water proof bag and life jackets. Everything we could need. They showed up right on time! It was my first time to kayak and the staff was awesome! They were friendly and knowledgable over the phone when I had questions, then making a reservation. When we arrived, we were greeted and were treated like friends- never talked down to us or blew us off for being newbies. We signed paperwork that released them from liability- the usual legal stuff, we watched a video that walked us through all the "how to and what to do if..." then we were fitted for life jackets and given a dry pack for our phones. Now, I'm not a small woman, so I was happy that they had no problem fitting me with a life jacket that was comfortable. We were taken in a van to the drop off point and they went over the "how to" stuff again. We were told to call them when we passed a certain bridge on our route- to assure prompt pick up, and they were there before we even got out of the water just like they said. Who knew that Bastrop was a great place to go Kayaking? My girlfiend, dog and I had a great time padding down the Colorado. Its the perfect place for beginners (like us), or anyone who wants to have a relaxing morning/afternoon on the river. The staff was amazingly nice, and even gave us a little Texas History lesson on our drive to the water. If you're trying to get away from the hustle of Town Lake, looking for an easy environment to learn to paddle, or just want to sit back and enjoy the water, Rising Phoenix is worth the drive. I've done kayak rentals with Rising Phoenix twice and both times were a lot of fun. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The equipment is kept in good order. You can go on a short trip (3 hours) or long trip (6 hours, or overnight camping) depending on what kind of adventure you feel like, and the Colorado River is just beautiful in the summer. We took some friends from out of town along the last time we went. They had never kayaked before and really enjoyed it. If you're a beginner at kayaking, or you just want a nice relaxing day on the river, I strongly recommend this place. read more

I was celebrating my birthday at Lost Pines Hyatt Resort and we wanted to end our trip with an activity. All the Zip lines were closed but we learned Rising Phoenix Adventures never closes. So we planned a last minute adventure and they made it easy and affordable. I own a kayak but due to poor planning it was in the garage, no trouble they had it all, boat life jackets, maps, dry bag, (don't kayak without one, you don't want to learn that yourself the hard way, two cell phones later). The kayak we rented was very much like mine and the river was amazing and beautiful. I've done Guadalupe, Blanco and San Marcos rivers, I enjoyed the even flow and width of the Colorado. Jami was exceptional for planning and the shuttle service to the river and perfectly timed pick up, zero wait time.Highly recommend and will return for more floats, hopefully many many times. One additional tip, the location on Industrial is behind a building that fronts Industrial, if you watch the boats are easily visible from Industrial. read more

I was a first timer, going with my sister who had been to another place once before. The staff is wonderful, friendly and very helpful. They go above and beyond to help you have a good experience. They showed us a video to get some tips about kayaking, and then afterwards John (the owner) drove us out to the river and gave me a crash course on how to maneuver the kayak and what to avoid before sending us off. The drive out to the drop off point included a little tour of the town with some trivia. John recommended we visit Roadhouse restaurant, and since we'd been kayaking we'd get a 10% discount. I wanted to take my seven-year old daughter fishing and canoeing near Austin, and Rising Phoenix Adventures was just the ticket. They rented us a canoe and fishing rod and took us to the Bastrop River. John's narration of Bastrop's history en route to the boat ramp was a nice touch. Already planning my next trip! The crew at Rising Phoenix were awesome, friendly, and very helpful. I rented a tandem kayak for myself and a friend and we kayaked the 26 mile stretch. I would only recommend this to people who enjoy a bit of a workout while adventuring because you will be paddling the entire time. I would also recommend leaving as early as possible on the first day of your trip because the majority of the mileage comes on the first day. We felt a little rushed because we didn't leave until almost noon and wanted to make sure we got to Campout Island before dark so we didn't have much time to stop for swim breaks. It took us about 6.5 hours to make the first leg of 16.9 miles. The island is very primitive and I was glad that I brought my handy hatchet along to help clear some space. I might try a different island next time so that I we have better view of the stars. The second day was much more relaxing because we only had about 9 miles left. Overall, a perfect way to spend a weekend in nature. read more
