Hello New River Valley. I'm baaccckkkkk in town to help my mom with caregiving for my grandmother. Our cousin came by to relieve us so we could get out the house for a bit and get some lunch. My mom has her faves but she's not too adventurous since she has to stay close to Grammz. So that meant I got to pick the spot. My first choice in this 75 degree clear weather is always gonna be a brewery so I searched for one that had food. Yall know breweries without food are my villain origin story. Came upon this spot and wow!! Again, I grew up here. Still it was not until recently that I realized how utterly mountainous and beautiful this area is - I guess I just took it for granted all these years. The brewery is set on a hilltop and attached to a working farm. They even have farm dogs!! So not only is there beer, there's also really good food! The rundown: So many beers and a nice selection of sours and fruit forward options. Like I was in heaven reading the list. Flights of 4/5/6 which I love. I can't abide by a small flight. Simple seasonal menu that had exactly what you want. For now it's a burger, fries, pretzels, sandos. They also have a gorgeous wood fired pizza oven. The burger and fries were exquisite. I legitimately could have ordered one to go with ZERO shame. None. Seating galore - inside chairs, outside, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, a mini bar. Very comfortable set up. Fun merch - stickers, hoodies, shirts, glassware. Excellent service! We bought beer, food, and merch and I feel bad cause my English major math failed me trying to subtract the merch purchase and my tip was on the light side. I'll make it up to yall I promise. Farm share and store attached to the brewery with massive sweet potatoes and a variety of sosig (extra sage - like these people really know me as a person). I'm legitimately in love with this place. :wistful sigh:

Simple pepperoni pizza...but super tasty and good crust.

Always a treat and yesterday was no exception so I thought I'd update my review here. In addition, there is a great market right next door full of vegetables and meat produced on site and nearby at local farms. Heaven!! Great service as always, everyone is so chill and accommodating. Love the vibe as well, even on a dreary winter day.

Delicious food, tasty beer and gorgeous setting all while listening to live music . Only a few minutes from VT.

Good selection of beers and food. Pizzaslooked awmazing though we had smash burgers. Relaxed farm setting with live music and a chill vibe.

Silo burger and pretzel with pimento.

Rising Silo is our favorite place in Blacksburg! Best ambiance in town and the best kitchen at any of the breweries. The beet mayo with their fries is to die for and I'd drive across town for a Silo Burger. 10/10.

I was able to visit the famous brewery of Blacksburg, the Rising Silo. Although I visited in the off season, I thoroughly enjoyed the environment and view. My Cranberry Rose was very delicious. Another thing I tried was the fries with the beet sauce, which was very unique! If you are someone who is health conscious and vegetarian, there are many options available. As it was the off season, the restaurant was a little empty and cold, but if you decide to come in the spring/summer I highly recommend. The drive to the brewery was very scenic, however the brewery is slightly hidden so just keep an eye out if you choose to try it out!!

Food was very cold when it came out, and it took an hour to arrive. Service was good but besides that nothing.

So I did my research and found out that it opened its doors in 1963 in a 19th-century autentic farmhouse which once belonged to the Ridinger family. It has had several owners and managers throughout its history. Roger Neel and Neal Keesee, owners of Billy's and Cornbeef and Co. in Roanoke, purchased the restaurant and reopened it in 2016. Kevin Murphy was the general manager in 1996. Devin Whittaker is currently listed as the General Manager. The restaurant has been a long-standing establishment in the New River Valley, known for its beef dishes. Currently its menu has been expanded to include a nice selection of seafood items as well. Additions to the original house include several banquet rooms, a bar, an outdoor dining area that can be used year round, and a caboose annex. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And The Farm House in Christiansburg, Virginia, is the perfect example. So one day I made a reservation through Open Table and set out enthusiastically in my new car to go explore what it was all about. After driving in the highway through a nasty rain and thunder storm, the rain finally stopped as I arrived there and was parking in their nice size parking lot. The decor inside was rustic yet very cozy, with many booths inside small spaces, and a couple of very elegant dining rooms nicely set-up and decorated with one of a kind framed Virginia Tech Football memorabilia. It also contained a beautiful award winning wine cellar and exclusive bourbon room. The restaurant was divided into two sides with alleyways where the individual enclosed booths were located and each alleyway had a street name so one could find their way back if they had to leave to use the restroom. The left side was decorated with antique farm items and old photographs and the right side with beautiful colorful paintings by Rochthilde. The caboose annex is located on that side. When I arrived a friendly young lady hostess greeted and welcomed me and after confirming my reservation took me to my booth which was located in Hokie Hwy. You can see the location in my photo of their map. Soon after, my server greeted me and took my order. I started off with a Mojito Mocktail to drink. Their Crispy Fried Calamari as appetizer. Followed by a Caesar Salad. And as the main entrée I had their famous Prime Rib medium rare with the Grilled Shrimp enhancement and the two sides being a Loaded Baked Potato and a Special Corn which was the side of the day. The meal also included these special rolls with butter, which clearly pointed out the exquisite nature of the cuisine of this magnificent restaurant. At this time, I took a brief escape to go visit the bar area and there I happened to have met the Restaurant Manager who gave me a warm welcome and thanked me for having traveled all this way for the pleasure of dining at his restaurant. I found my way back and all the food was amazingly delicious. I invite you to take a look at my photographs accompanying this review. The Prime Rib one of the best I've ever had. Comparable only to Billy's in Downtown Roanoke. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and did an excellent job. The Restaurant Manager also came by a couple of times to see if I was enjoying my dinner and if all was to my satisfaction. It was nice to learn that he lived down in Cave Spring, my neck of the woods, and where one of my best and favorite restaurants is located, The OTH Chophouse. For the Grand Finale of what had been an amazing cuisine and an extraordinary dining experience, I had a slice of their Peanut Butter Pie for dessert. It too was amazing. To conclude I highly recommend this restaurant for those special occasions when you want to enjoy a fine dining experience in a very unique and historic restaurant, in a comfortable ambiance, with an amazing culinary masterpieces, and excellent service.

So I was a little unsure whether the wine selection at Beliveau Farm Winery would be for me. But I'm happy to say that these guys are making some great wine. Yvan and Joyce, the owners, know what they are doing in terms of grapes and wine, because they have traveled and enjoyed wine from all around the world. They have a good thing going on here. When I visited, I did a wine tasting, which was paired with different flavored potato chips. So I got to taste several different wines. I'm more of a red wine gal, but one of my favorites at Beliveau is the Crazy Professor, which is a white wine blend: Vidal Blanc, Chardonel, Pinot Gris. They also have a tasty Cab Franc (one of my favorites, too), and another Crazy Professor wine, but this one is a red called The Professor's Crazy Estate Blend, which is Cab Franc, Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo. Almost all of my favorites in one bottle! So, yes, you will find some great Virginia wines here. You can enjoy a glass indoors or outdoors. I hope you sit outdoors, though, because the grounds are beautiful and expansive. This place is kid-friendly and pet-friendly, too. There's lots of open space for kids to run around, and some big rocks for them to climb on.
