I came here for the first time with my family and regret not coming sooner! For years now, I have heard wonderful things about Rising Silo Brewery and their farm-centric kitchen food. They focus on using fresh, local ingredients from the Glade Road Growing farm as well as local vendors/producers. Along with their food/kitchen, Rising Silo creates their own brews and has quite the selection of beers on tap. The food menu isn't super extensive and they change it monthly based off what is in season. It consists of several wood fired pizzas, burgers, fries, bowls, and more. Ordering is very simple, you order at the kiosk up front, they will hand you a buzzer, it will go off when your food is ready, and you pick it up at the front where you ordered. This ambiance is relaxed and the space is super family-friendly. There is some indoor seating, but definitely more outdoor space available. They have outdoor games for people to enjoy as well. The service is good and friendly. When we visited, it was the weekend of graduation and was quite busy due to graduation parties, etc. There was a longer wait on the food, pizzas specifically, but this wasn't an issue. We were notified in advance on the wait on the pizza before fishing our order, which I appreciated. We snagged a table inside the barn space while we waited and enjoyed some "starters" and brews. To share with the table, we ordered the chips & salsa and the salted pretzel with pimento cheese. The chips & salsa consist of a large bowl of their house-made fresh salsa with mild jalapeños and a basket of chips. The salsa had more of a "minced" consistency with more finely diced tomatoes and was less chunky. The jalapeños added a slight kick and I appreciated the freshness of the salsa. The chips were warm when they were served to us, with a lot of salt. The salted pretzel came from a local vendor, Blacksburg Bagels, and was served with either pimento cheese or dijon mustard. We opted for the pimento and thought it paired well with the pretzel. The pretzel had a good texture, but more doughy/softer texture than a traditional pretzel. The pimento cheese had more prominent flavor from the red peppers, but was still quite flavorful. After sharing these items, we waited about 20-25 minutes for our buzzer with our pizzas! This wasn't a huge deal as it was super busy and we could see them making all the pizzas in front of us. The pizzas are roughly 12 inches, are made with homemade dough, and fired in a wood-fired oven. They are served right of the oven and are super fresh. We ended up ordering the Chicano Pie, Ramp Pesto Pie, and two pepperonis. Both the chicano and ramp pesto pie were monthly specials. The Chicano Pie included tomato sauce, burrata, chorizo, roasted corn, bell pepper, and cotija cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed this as it was very unque. The burrata was creamy and flavorful, the chorizo was smoky, and the corn & bell pepper added a slight sweetness. All these flavors paired very well together, creating a really great pie! The Ramp Pesto Pie had locally foraged ramp pesto, fresh mozzarella, and oyster mushrooms. This pie was also phenomenal with really bold flavors. The ramp added a strong element of onion, but it wasn't too overpowering. Accompanied by the slabs of mozzarella and mushrooms, this pie was also a hit! The pepperoni pie included tomato sauce, pepperoni, and silo blend of cheese. While this was a more simple pie, it certainly didn't lack any flavor. I appreciated that they use the cup n' char pepperonis. The pie had ample amounts of both cheese and pepperonis too. I absolutely loved all the pies we ordered and none of them fell short. Overall, Rising Silo is an awesome place in Blacksburg. The food is extremely good and I love that source their ingredients from local producers. Everything is so fresh and it is evident in the amount of flavor the food has. The star of our meal was easily the pizza, totally worth the longer-than-usual wait! I can easily say it is some of the best pizza I've had in Blacksburg. The char on the crust is perfect from the wood-fired oven. Their menu changes monthly, so look out for new pizza specials! Love the overall design of this brewery and the food options. The design is like an old barn with long picnic tables and a couple high tops. We didn't get much food, but they have a brick pizza over right in the middle of the room which is really neat. They also have finger foods like pretzels and burgers that looked good, but we went before dinner to just have a few drinks. Great variety of options too from pilsners/lagers to sours and stouts. It's not overly bright inside too which can be bothersome for me at night and it's nice to just relax and enjoy to subtle hint of light (enough to where you can see everything your doing, but not too much where you can see every other person in the room and their facial expressions). The only downside (and it could be because it's slow season) was they only had one register so at times we waited for the line to get drinks TK dwindle down before getting in line ourselves. Might've different during peak season so when we go back during warmer weather and that is the case where they have another register open, I'll be sure to update that. This place is the best brewery in the area, with a rotating tap list. Their food can be a bit pricey, but is always delicious. I especially enjoyed the quesabirria tacos and the pizza there. Their beers are delicious and they always come out with innovative, new types. The wait time was not long at all, and the cashier was very helpful with beer recommendations. The outside seating area and open air layout is fantastic in the summer, and they have heaters for the colder months. They also have lots of fun events to attend, including a disco vinyl night by the local college radio station. It is also great for families with lots of space for kids to run around. Highly recommend for any beer aficionados in the area. read more

Hello New River Valley. I'm baaccckkkkk in town to help my mom with caregiving for my grandmother. Our cousin came by to relieve us so we could get out the house for a bit and get some lunch. My mom has her faves but she's not too adventurous since she has to stay close to Grammz. So that meant I got to pick the spot. My first choice in this 75 degree clear weather is always gonna be a brewery so I searched for one that had food. Yall know breweries without food are my villain origin story. Came upon this spot and wow!! Again, I grew up here. Still it was not until recently that I realized how utterly mountainous and beautiful this area is - I guess I just took it for granted all these years. The brewery is set on a hilltop and attached to a working farm. They even have farm dogs!! So not only is there beer, there's also really good food! The rundown: So many beers and a nice selection of sours and fruit forward options. Like I was in heaven reading the list. Flights of 4/5/6 which I love. I can't abide by a small flight. Simple seasonal menu that had exactly what you want. For now it's a burger, fries, pretzels, sandos. They also have a gorgeous wood fired pizza oven. The burger and fries were exquisite. I legitimately could have ordered one to go with ZERO shame. None. Seating galore - inside chairs, outside, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs, a mini bar. Very comfortable set up. Fun merch - stickers, hoodies, shirts, glassware. Excellent service! We bought beer, food, and merch and I feel bad cause my English major math failed me trying to subtract the merch purchase and my tip was on the light side. I'll make it up to yall I promise. Farm share and store attached to the brewery with massive sweet potatoes and a variety of sosig (extra sage - like these people really know me as a person). Visited for the first time Jun7,2025, around 7pm. I'll cut to the chase: The "farm" vibe is trendy-cool, but the food is pricy and should have been "good" or better. I got a pepperoni pizza, my SO got a burger and fries. The pizza was VERY greasy and tasteless. Now I know pepperoni can be greasy, but the amount of grease was excessive... and for some reason the pepperoni had zero taste. The crust was pretty good, being a "wood-fired oven" pizza. The hamburger was tasteless as well. The fries looked pretty good but were boring on the palate. The pizza, burger/fries, and two draft beers were ~$53 total (tax and all). That's a lot to spend, considering it's completely self-service and seating is at picnic tables / cable spools. The food sure LOOKED like it would be great, but we were completely disappointed. Came back a couple of weeks ago with my friends, and had a far more disappointing experience. The drinks/food aren't bad - they're actually pretty good. However, the lady who ran the cash register had a really bad attitude. One of my friends, who is from out of state, was harassed during the entirety of our time here for allegedly having a fake ID (it was not fake). The harassment didn't even stop once we had gotten our food/drinks - she actually came over to the table and asked to look at their ID again. I found this to be rude and very unprofessional. This spot was very much farm stand vibes that also serves beer. While it doesn't have that traditional brewery feel, it has a great selection of beers and the beers were quite tasty. I tried the sasquash and it was really good, one of the better fall themed beers I've had in years. Their pizzas looked nice but we tried the fries with the beet dip (pricey at $7 for a small basket). Outdoor area is cute but lots of tables are at an angle so hold onto your beer. read more

I bought two orders of pizza: pepperoni and whatever Hawaiian they make for this as special in the current month, December. The total was $46 including some tips. I was the first person who had a pizza order that day. While I liked the dough, not everything else than the freaking though. My lover brought me here because she knew I could use a drink but she was under the impression this more like a traditional sit down restaurant-which it is not. I had two beers, neither to write home about, but not bad. Unfortunately we must have been a little early for pizza so we had the burgers instead. Certainly a good burger. A cold front was hitting the area so it was a little cold inside because of the wind. I'm sad I live so far from this place! My friend and I were in town for a vet appointment at VA Tech and needed somewhere to spend a few hours with a dog while waiting on lab results. This brewery was perfect! Nice, quiet place outside of the busy town. It was a Thursday and they were moderately busy but we didn't have to wait long to order food or beer. The cilantro lime hummus was delicious; perfect consistency with just the right amount of flavor. I can't say any of the beers were my favorite and my friend felt the same, but that's coming from someone who drinks Busch Light so I don't really feel like I should have an opinion on local brews lol. We found a shady spot to hangout and water was provided for my doggy. Overall great experience and we will definitely be back if we're ever in the area again! read more

I was able to visit the famous brewery of Blacksburg, the Rising Silo. Although I visited in the off season, I thoroughly enjoyed the environment and view. My Cranberry Rose was very delicious. Another thing I tried was the fries with the beet sauce, which was very unique! If you are someone who is health conscious and vegetarian, there are many options available. As it was the off season, the restaurant was a little empty and cold, but if you decide to come in the spring/summer I highly recommend. The drive to the brewery was very scenic, however the brewery is slightly hidden so just keep an eye out if you choose to try it out!! read more

Loved the space, loved the beer, loved it all! This was one of the very few breweries around Blacksburg that we could find that were dog friendly, so that made our choice to come here so much easier. The outdoor space was nice and spread out, with plenty of seating and tables. They also had an outdoor patio on the side. Inside in the taproom was a nice farmhouse esthetic with great views across the land. We did a flight, which can be either 4, 5, or 6 beers, and really likes their seasonal Apple and Spice beers. Also, as a fan of stouts, their Thunder Snow was very balanced and full and I loved it. They have some food available for order, as well as a farmers market shop right next to the taproom. This was a great space and I recommend it to anyone visiting the Roanoke/Blacksburg area. You can also bring your own food if you get some on the way. read more

I'm an out of town we and this was the first place that popped up on my gps when I input breweries. The view, atmosphere, and live music are the only reasons I give this 3 stars instead of 2 stars. Like many other reviews the food leaves something to be desired especially with the high cost. You walk up, order and are given a buzzer for when the food is ready which is fine. Beer selection is diverse. I had the gopher gose which was decent. My wife had the Apple 'atcha and that was awful. Tasted like carbonated water with a slight hint of apple with the color of apple cider. Hamburger was meh. Tasted like a cooked frozen burger patty. Prices were way high for the quality of food. That said the outside setup with chairs in a small meadow and awesome view give this place so much potential. This would be a great place to bring the young kids and let them play outside in the grass. read more

So, they substituted half stale tortilla chips, no effort to add anything to the chips, cheese salsa.... Chilli was tasty, hot and just the right amount of spice. But: Out of ciders, don't serve cola soft drinks, No fries $15 for their signature burger, was dry, A Whopper would have been better. Asked for Mustard, told they dont have any. There are quite a few breweries here in Blacksburg but Rising Silo was the first one we found open and they did not disappoint. The view driving in was beautiful, a perfect location for some good beer and great food. Wife and I settled on a flight of five. Barn Flower Blonde Ale, Brush Mountain Blonde Ale, Biere De Glade (Belgian Ale), Moo Milk Stout (Chocolate Mint), More Cow Belgian. Barn Flower and Brush Mountain were my top two, but ultimately, the farm fresh cheeseburger was hands down my favorite, right next to the green countryside. Very thankful to have family here in Blacksburg so I will have more opportunities to come here again. read more

Let's start with ambiance because it is the easiest category to laude anything remotely positive about the venue. Lovely views, pleasant distances between tables. The afternoon that we were there, the venue had a wonderful old time jam session. Musicians and audience were really into it. This added a wonderful and authentic vibe to the space. The views were great, there was plenty of space inside and out side. The venue was very busy, which for me, seemed like a good problem. From here the ratings begin to fall. This is a brewery with a lot of good descriptions of their product. All seemed reasonable. Coming from an area where there is an abundancy of great choices of all types and styles of beers, I am admittedly spoiled by the variety that can be found at most breweries. The beer fell short of my expectations and did not buy seconds of any of the three that I tasted. As I said earlier, the venue was busy. We ordered a cheese pizza and two different 12 ounce pours. The beer was tapped immediately, the order was taken for the pizza, I was not told (in fairness, I did not inquire either) what the length of time would be for the food. I did make a mental note of the people that were in front of us whom also seemed be ordering food as they received a "paging" device. Please keep in mind that I ordered a cheese pizza that was being cooked in a wood burning stove that is visible to the consumers. The cook was very busy. We sat outside for the first round of beers, a party of four received their food before us - they placed their order moments before ours was placed and we felt that the food we ordered should be on its way soon. Finishing the first beer, I queued up to buy a second one and inquire about the food. The order taker filled my second order for beer and replied to my inquiry that she "would look into it for me". Ushering me out of the way of the other customers, she disappeared into the kitchen after speaking to the manager and returned to me saying that she looked into it and our order would be ready as soon as possible. Remember this is a 12" cheese pizza, no toppings - certainly the simplest possible pizza to make on the menu. I said this is interesting because I observed people behind me in line that received their food before we did. Blank stare for a response and no apology but did add that they were very busy. The pizza was ready, my pager went off and I collected the cheese pizza from the counter, no apology for the delay. The pizza was very good. It was consumed, beer was finished and I went to the counter to close out. The bill, with tax was $46 for one cheese pizza, one 16 oz. beer and 3 12 oz. beers and sales tax. I was disappointed that no effort was made to apologize or offer any concession on the prices. I said that this had been an expensive disappointment reiterating the entire experience to the supervisor and then to the manager who reminded me that they were very busy and that some orders were more complicated than others (cheese pizza?). I said that a very busy restaurant is a very good problem, mistakes happen, and then I offered a polite pause affording the manager yet another opportunity to apologize. No apology but after a moment she said what do you want me to do? I said that her arguments did not hold water, no apology, and no offer to make anything right. At that point she removed the cost of the pizza from the menu and a couple of the beers, never apologized. If she had just said, I am really sorry, this would have been done. I came here on vacation not as a food critic or someone looking to get something for nothing. It is not how I am wired. So in short, bring your own food, take a chance on the beer, enjoy the view, This venue needs new management; this manager is unprepared, incompetent and has no sense of hospitality and sadly gives the air of being overwhelmed. read more

Came here to get out of the downtown mess. We were able to sit without problem but the kitchen was clearly not properly staffed nor did they have enough (decent) food for the masses. Rising Silo Brewery is an absolute gem in Blacksburg! The brewery location is centered near the mountains of Blacksburg with a beautiful view! Initially I got a kombrewcha to start which was absolutely phenomenal and so refreshing! Then we got food that tasted so fresh and so local! Do not sleep on their brick oven pizzas and anything with SILO SAUCE or their hummus! The silo sauce was such a group favorite. Maybe recommend some Brussels or veggies on the menu but can't complain too much when overall an amazing experience! Definitely planning to come back! read more

Two stars are for the beer and the beer selection. That was really the only highlight. Food is a bit overpricedfor its quality. Burgers (14 bucks) were not cooked to order, which is fine if there is consistency in the cooking. My friend's burger was medium well while my burger was more on the rare side. Medium rare is great for a steak but not a burger...let alone rare. A kind person behind the counter offered to have it replaced. It was obvious the person on the grill wasn't too thrilled when my replaced burger was more akin to a hockey puck thank an adequately cooked burger. If consistency is an issue...smashburgers would be a better solution. Lastly, the pretzel (6 bucks) reminded me of one you'd get a high school football game. Again, overpriced for its quality or lack thereof. IPAs were good as well as their dark lager. Hopefully one day the kitchen staff will find some inspiration and keep it consistent. read more

Beer was fantastic. It is a nice location and I believe all of the items on the menu are grown on their farm or locally sourced. We had a cheese pizza made in their wood fired pizza oven, they were out of pepperoni. Pizza tasted fine, but the crust was a little thicker than I would prefer. Also firing the pizza in a wood oven should not entail leaving the pizza in a pan. Really need to revisit their pizza making process. Thinner crust, cook on the stone to get that real pizza oven taste, not in a pan. They didn't have birch beer or root beer, which was a disappointment for my daughter. Most breweries do make birch beer or root beer, maybe the juice is not worth the squeeze. Simple interior and you order at the bar. Their brown ale was very good. Went in the winter, but I could see liking the experience with all of the doors opened up in the spring and summer and really having an enjoyable happy hour. They had a live guitarist which was a nice touch. In general, go for the beer and atmosphere. Seating is somewhat limited in the winter. If you go hungry you won't be angry, but maybe a little disappointed with their pizza. read more
