I wanted so badly to love this place. It has the entire formula for a successful local brewery - craft beer, agricultural setting, indoor and outdoor seating, live music. However, the formula just doesn't add up here. First off, this place was very busy on a weekend that students were out of town. There weren't many places to sit inside, so many sat outside with their beers and their kids. But there is absolutely no outdoor lighting! Outdoor lighting would make this place shine and add a beautiful touch, and wouldn't be too expensive either. People sitting in the dark just seemed weird and unaccommodating. The bar area is inside a shed, which in theory is a cute idea. However, the shed is small, and the band was confined to a tiny area. We sat maybe 20 feet away and could not hear or see them well. If you plan to have live music often, which they do, a simple stage would go a long way. Finally, the beer is mediocre at best. They were out of a lot, but the ones we had as a flight were quite flat. We had a pint of the Thunder Snow Stout, which was probably their best one in our opinion. We may have come at an inopportune time while they were redoing bathrooms, but only three portapotties for several hundred people translated to a god-awful, lingering stench about the place. I opted to hold it rather than lose my lunch going near those johns. I would rent more portapotties than that for a tailgate for my family. With as busy and popular as Rising Silo is, I really hope they invest some money in the place to make it stand out as a quality, local spot to enjoy craft beer in the country. We discovered this gem after dropping our daughter off at VT. This place had a nice vibe. The scenery is nice. The beers are not bad. The food is good. We had the vegetables with hummus. Everything is made and grown on site. There was a cool blue grass band playing. Family friendly with lots of little kids running around. read more

I went here this past weekend, and absolutely loved it. It's down a small road in Blacksburg on a cute little farm! The decorations inside are barrels, flowers, and other cute farm decor. The two employees that were working were incredibly nice and very outgoing. I enjoyed the couple of beers I had, but they are Definitely not your average beer. Many are made with Apple, carrot, or other odd things. Overall very very cool brewery. read more

I don't get this place. They're always out of everything, even on nights where we've gone early. And of the food I was able to order, it was just fine. Farm to table is great and all, but it'd be much more worthwhile if the fresh ingredients were actually cooked into something more appetizing, and that food could then actually be ordered. Drinks were relatively cheap, and the brewery was absolutely beautiful. Outdoor seating is lovely, and they have bands play occasionally as well. Definitely get a flight here. They have lots of fun distinct beers! read more

Waited one hour for pizza that never came. I checked once around the 40 minute mark and was told it's be a few more minutes. At 60 mins I was told the kitchen was closed. Order was refunded but I never received any food. I'm not sure rhe tip was refunded. read more

Instead, focus on what they're trying to do and the community they're trying to build. Enjoy the music from local musicians just jamming together regardless of talent level. Very cool and awesome brewery. Came here with my brother and parents on a rainy/cloudy Saturday, but the band was great and they had heat lamps which were very nice. The bathrooms were also really nice and clean! Which is a great find for these outdoor-type breweries. Plenty of seating on the patio, as well as out on their lawn area. Dog-friendly, too! My mom and I shared a flight of 7 (?) beers, and I enjoyed most of them! Good range of selections, from IPAs to stouts. I wish their Saison hadn't been out! But I'll be back to try it. My brother told me their food selections can change and sometimes offer pizzas. When we were there, they had small plates from $4-8, CASH. I love this brewery. I don't live in the area, but whenever I'm in town I make a point to visit. They have creative, tasty beer; delicious, innovative food offerings; and a setting that can't be beat. Outdoor fire pit, old tree stumps used as outdoor tables, indoor seating that's well-ventilated for these COVID times. You can watch the sun set over the mountains as you enjoy a delicious dinner with your hand-crafted beer. Add in dogs and children roaming around and it's guaranteed to be a pleasant evening. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way home from Blacksburg. The food was stunning, the beer fantastic and the scenery is breathtaking. I had a sour which was great, a plate of hoppin John and a plate of focaccia with onions in it, and it was sublime. Great non alcoholic drinks too, the sarsaparilla was lovely! read more

A family and date friendly awesome place to spend an afternoon. Beer and food are amazing. A must do if you're in Blacksburg!!! Rising Silo Brewery let you be one with nature and enjoy some great brews. Their farm to table fare was different every day with a limited offering of delicious, wholesome small plates. They often had live music and drew a decent crowd. Being there in the winter was tricky because it was an outdoor brewery that they tried to close in, but they did not have the heater power to keep it warm. We quickly learned to bundle up with many layers if we wanted to go here. I can imagine that it would have been amazing during the more mild climate times of year. It is also located across from Heritage Park, which included some nice walking/hiking trails through old farmland with frozen ponds and abandoned farming equipment. Interesting place. Beer was average. There is no table service. The tables are all communal. The chairs are bad. The food was actually very good. We had the grilled vegetables and duck eggs. If you are looking for a rustic place to have a beer while your young kids run around you'll love this place. Others wise there are better placer in the area. read more

Great atmosphere. Kind people and high quality fresh vegetables, cooked meals, soda, nitro coffee and beer. They are dog friendly. The location is homey and comfortable, like you're hanging out in your backyard (if your backyard has a beautiful farm and mountain view). Very disappointed with this place. Arrived with 4 friends on Saturday and got in line at 4:40 to order beers. One of the ladies explains that they have an event starting at 5:00pm that would require a $10 entrance fee per person. Seeing that the time was 20 mins until the start of the actual event we asked if we could just pay for a beer and leave before 5. She declined and insisted we each had to pay the $10 "entrance fee" before paying for a beer... Surprised by this poor level of service. read more
