This place uses to be great but has really gone downhill. I owed a coworker lunch so we came by. Her turkey sandwich had such hard bread it was borderline inedible. Their mushroom soup was very bland and had a weird texture. I also grabbed a cookie and it was very mushy in the middle. There was a weird bitter chunk of I think baking powder or baking soda. I chose a Turkey club planning to pick the bacon off but it was chopped really tiny and weirdly wet and mushy, spread over the bread? I can't really hold that against them it was on me for ordering it but I didn't expect bacon to look like that. The bread had a god chew but was really bland. This place used to be great, I loved their mushroom sandwich. When they took it off the menu I quit coming. I am really bummed that the quality dropped so much. I had previously only eaten the exquisite pecan-encrusted cinnamon rolls at La Mie Elevate. I try and avoid La Mie Elevate, because those tasty little (huge, actually) pastries are both addictive and delicious. It doesn't help that La Mie Elevate is on the skywalk level of Two Ruan, where my office resides. On Wednesday however, I wanted lunch, and I wasn't in the mood for the skywalk-oriented food courts. So, I decided to check out the lunch options at La Mie Elevate. I was very surprised to see how affordable many of the options were. They have quite a few salads, soups, and sandwiches available. I listened to the soups of the day, and they were not what I wanted. The salads also didn't really meet my requirements either. The sandwiches however, were a different story entirely. I saw a Smoked Salmon sandwich. I was intrigued. Upon further perusal, it was clear that this was basically the equivalent of a lox bagel, only on bread. I was sold. For just under $7, it was pretty hard to argue with. They often have rows of the sandwiches pre-made, but they were out of the Smoked Salmon, so they had to make me one fresh. No complaints from me on that one. I had my sandwich within a few minutes and went back up to my desk on the 14th floor. I opened my sandwich, and immediately began drooling. The sandwich was huge. There was a LOT of smoked salmon, a bunch of capers, a pile of onions, a few slices of tomato, and a healthy dollop of cream cheese on the bottom. Oh my. The first bite was wonderful. The fresh bread was soft, the smoked salmon meaty and delicious, the capers nice and salty, and the cream cheese rounded everything out. It was a damn near perfect bite, as were all the subsequent bites. It took me all of about four minutes to devour the entire thing. It was phenomenal. I like getting the smoked salmon bagels from Bruegger's, but this was some next level smoked salmon action. The amount of food you get here for the money paid, and the quality of that food, is quite impressive. I now have a new option for my lunch hour, I just have to make sure to avoid La Mie Elevate during breakfast, so I am not seduced by the Pecan encrusted cinnamon rolls. *wipes away drool* read more

This location is bigger and better than the other location downtown! There are many pastries laid out on the counter to tempt you as you wait in line to order. I want to try it all! The staff is always very helpful which is great because they can get pretty busy. I usually go early or after the lunch hour. Theres more dining space at this location. They still have the made and ready to go foods too. Ive tried the snoked salmon sandwich and salmon & wild rice. Both turned out great. I also had the nouget and a deliscious blueberry pastry. I love having the option to get a vegan muffin or sandwich or something (I think they still have a vegan sandwich on the menu), but I definitely feel the temptation working in Ruan 2!!! This place is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. The have covered the entire entrance with glass so you can see everything when you pass by. The place has a more modern feel with all of the lights tables and super large counters. The food is La Mie. Need I say more. Ok I will. It's great. I heard this location is also baking it's own bread and pastries. It has both aspects of their other locations. You can grab pre-made items to go or you can have stuff made on the spot like eggs. Today I got the French Ham with Brie and dijon. Fabulous. So if you're in a hurry or want to sit and take in the day you can do it in Elevate. read more

What a great spot in the Des Moines skywalks. I went there after an afternoon workout at the Y and thought this will be a quick and healthy place to grab lunch. Like all of downtown Des Moines skywalk restaurants this place is only open during breakfast and lunch Monday thru Friday sadly... (we need to change this! Who's with me?) The place is trendy looking like a showroom at Ikea. Many business folks coming in for lunch but it's kind of expected but the place is super casual. (I literally came from the Y with no shower... yay me!) The staff there were real nice and as we got there, the person behind the counter asked if we've been there and walked through the menu and how to order and if we had any further questions. It's always nice to be welcomed that way when going to a place the first time. I got a salad with salmon and it was divine. I don't really know how describe a great salad but the salmon was still juicy went well with the accompanied dressing and half avocado. I want to come back here again to try more of their menu. I've been to the La Mie Bakery and that never disappointed either so I'll definitely be back here. read more

This place is decorated very nice and the service is fast and friendly. The line may look long but it goes by quick. Plenty of seating inside as well. We got the curry egg salad which was very light in the curry so it wasn't overwhelming and we also got the albacore tuna salad sandwich. Both sandwiches were very good and the bread was so soft and complimented the ingredients in the sandwich. I did try a sandwich that was premade since I had a meeting to attend and that bread wasn't the softest, so I would recommend dining in if you can. The desserts are also very good. The creme brûlée, tiramisu and the cheesecake are all good options. The pastries look amazing too so I'll be trying them soon. read more

So I just realized I haven't left a review. I eat here 3 to 4 times a week for lunch. I spend roughly $10 a lunch and have water to drink. So a really pretty good price point for downtown. The food is fresh. When I get a sandwich the lettuce is cut from a head, not pulled from a bag. I generally stick with the Cobb salad, quinoa black bean, or ham sandwich. read more

Price per portion here is surprisingly great; I usually assume that downtown establishments need to hike their prices but La Mie proved me wrong! They also offer many healthy options. I've come back a couple of times on my last trip to Des Moines and service has been pleasant and friendly. Either my last feedback somehow was cause for reflection and change (I doubt it, my feedback's typically ignored promptly) or service on my previous trips were flukes and I was an inconsiderate judgmental idiot (much more likely) but either way I have walked out of there the last 2 times happy not only with my breakfast but with the service I was given.
