Throughout the appointment she repeatedly made negative comments about my hair, including saying it was "all over" and that I had "so much breakage" I "didn't have a middle part." Constructive feedback is one thing, but the delivery felt unnecessarily dismissive and critical. The overall atmosphere was not welcoming, and I left feeling uncomfortable rather than taken care of. Manny is fantastic! When I first came here, I only had a vague idea of the look I wanted. The words "balayage", "toner", and "babylights" were not really in my vocab, but I said something along the lines of "lighter, low maintenance and somewhat gray-ish?". I came out of there with a beautiful gray-blonde balayage that lasted for months and months. Given how light my hair had gotten, I was surprised the texture was still smooth and soft - a testament to how well Manny knows his stuff and protected my hair from excessive chemicals. My next time back, he brought the colour up higher with thin strips of babylights to melt the balayage back into my new growth. Throw in some toner - bam, another beautiful session. Manny has done my hair since I was a child! I trust no one else with my hair. He's stylish, trendy and can give good advice on whether or not a cut or color will complement you well, if you ask. I say, if you ask because he is always very respectful about fulfilling the clients vision and wishes; he loves creativity. Aside from the talent, he is an awesome person with good conversation. I have a blast at his salon. He's like family now. He recently added a super talented eyebrow specialist: Natalie. I have had my fair share of terrible and even good eyebrow experiences but I must say, Natalie is my "eyebrow lady" forever!!! I've always had a hard time explaining my eyebrow vision to other eyebrow specialist and Natalie got it. I told her, "I want my eyebrows to look like I didn't get them done, very fluffy and bushy but I also want them clean and shaped. He and Kathy (his esthetician--who is great at doing eyebrows btw) are super down-to-earth and friendly, and the place is relaxing and unpretentious. The prices are really reasonable--I'm a teacher and I can afford it--and I just love going there. The only advice I have is to get there earlier than your appointment time, bc if he finishes early he might be able to take you early, if there aren't too many people waiting. I'm giving this salon 5 stars for a few different reasons. -Reasonable prices (in a sea of overpriced salons). Not sure about you, but I'm tired of walking out of a salon paying $250+. I left Risqué paying $55 with tip for wash (including mask), cut and style. Seriously. -Friendly staff. I walked in on a Saturday morning asking for a wash/cut with no appointment. Manny, the owner, didn't give me a hard time but instead invited me in and washed me while I waited for Danielle to be open up. Manny noted how dry my hair was so he threw on a mask too. -Dani. She's the sweetest. She listened to my concerns and took care of me. I left with EXACTLY what I was looking for. Even though I had botched her schedule by showing up unannounced, she made me feel like her most loyal client, giving me such a welcome feeling. I go back in 2 weeks for color with Dani.
