The atmosphere (namely the view) gets 10 stars. You have one of the best views of the sunset, water, and sunset in Riomaggiore. Note, from town ground level, it is a climb - 225 steps to the restaurant. The food was great, we had the spaghetti alla mari and lasagna al ragu, plus a limoncello and a local sweet wine, Sciacchetrà, which reminded us of a port but less sweet. The service was fantastic - our waitress was friendly and checked in with us occasionally which was perfect. (Spring Italy Trip 2025) Remember when Frodo and Sam had to climb the stairs of Cirith Ungol? Quite similar. I've heard about "earning your meal" by doing a workout but this was a bit extreme. First, just trying to find the bottom of the stairway was a task as every map app we used brought us to a dead end including literally a break in a wall where the tide was rolling in. So we used the Force. The Force worked. At least right up to the point where we found ourselves behind the restaurant supplier who, and I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP, is using a motorized push cart with TANK tracks to bring produce, meat, drinks etc, from the bottom to the restaurant. The good news was it forced us to slow down to catch our breath. The bad news is it forced us to slow down and catch our breath. Reminded me when I'm at the gym and I'm silently cursing my trainer to hurry the F-up and get this session over with. You come to Cinque Terre and you definitely want to combine some great food with some great views. Ristorante La Torre hits both of those at a price. That price was a "I'm lost" and "I'm going to die on this path" hike up winding stairs wondering if the restaurant is ever going to appear. But its worth it. The view of Vernazza and the neighboring towns and of course the glistening Ligurian Sea are just breathtaking. There is inside dining but thankfully the weather permitted us to sit on their multilevel patio. We did opt for some shade because by the time we got up there it was a little bit of sun and my buttery body was melting. I really could have used some wine but I was dehydrated enough so skip. Service was surprisingly attentive, perhaps a nod to understanding the American tourist. Is this a touristy place? For the quality of service and food I want to say no. It has been my experience that a tourist trap sacrifices one or both. Yes I was sweaty and wondering how much will a hospital stay in Italy cost me but this was a great visit. Food: sadly, no gnocchi (which is what I zeroed in on first) related dishes that day. Maybe the ingredients were stuck in the bottom of the hill. I'd normally dock off some love but given I literally witnessed the effort to get supplies I'm not going to complain for a shortage of a dish. Fritto misto : great lightly fried batter on sardines, calamari, shrimp. Spaghetti alla Mari (seafood spaghetti): perfectly cooked pasta with generous amount of shrimp, langostino, calamari in a simple olive oil and garlic sauce. Tagliolino all' Aragostella (taglino with lobster): again perfect al dente pasta in a pomodoro sauce Pasta (forget which style substituted for said absent gnocchi) in pesto. Simple and comforting. La Torre not only has the best food but also the absolute best view in Vernazza. We got the Tagliolini with lobster and Ligurian "slow cooked" Paccheri. Perfect portions and both were so tasty and filling. The best part is that the restaurant space is huge and it is easy to get a table with a view. Definitely stop by if you are hiking on the Blue Trail from Vernazza to Corniglia. read more

BEAUTIFUL! If you're ever visiting Vernazza I couldn't recommend this place enough. Our airbnb host helped us make a reservation (which I recommend!) and the hike was worth it! It is slight long and steep, so I had to warn my mother multiple times, but when we made it to the top it was all worth it. The food was also good! We got drinks to start so we could take in the view. The red seafood pasta was delicious; it was flavorful and had huge chunks of seafood. Calamari was also a great starter. This restaurant might be slightly out of the way but you've already made you're trek to Cinque Terre so what's another extra 10 minute hike ;) read more

We stayed in Vernazza for few days and went to La Torre twice! That's how much we loved the food and of course , the view. For the reservation .. it is a bit sketchy - they say they are open at certain time and take reservation down , yet when we arrived, the best tables were already taken , and you could tell , people came much earlier and had the food already. So while reservation gets you in, it does not guarantee better table Either way, we had nice tables both times ! First night at the top terrace and second - one lower. The view is unparalleled , of course , but the food is amazing, too! Service was great and friendly both times. We tried numerous dishes and appetizers , and every single meal was amazing! After touring the Cinque Terra area through several villages, our tour guide suggested this restaurant. It is located on a cliff above the water. We ate on their patio that had a gorgeous view of the sea below. I was with five other people. We received good service. I ordered the fresh mussels. I loved that they brought me a "bucket" of mussels that were cooked with a light broth with nice spices. I ate so many mussels and enjoyed every one. Though it was a warm July day, we enjoyed a lovely breeze and relished the beautiful view! read more

We've been in Cinque Terre three days now and this was by far our favorite meal. Incredible views, incredible fresh food and super friendly staff that took the time to explain details about the dishes we had ordered. Highly recommend ordering the caprese salad--it's probably the best burrata we have ever had--and the mixed anchovies, which is anchovies prepared in five different ways. Definitely make reservations. This place is poplar and for good reason. It's a bit of a hike getting there so if you have elderly folks as part of your crew, you might want to reconsider. We were doing the Cinque Terre hike and were getting a little hungry by the time we reached Vernazza. We had done some research prior to going and found this place. To get up to the restaurant, you have to climb more steps. Once we got to the top, we were immediately seated by the railing, where we had a great view of the water and the town of Vernazza below. We started off the meal with mussels in garlic sauce and some rose wine. It was so good that we decided to get a second plate to share. For lunch, I got the spaghetti with tomato sauce sauce. I liked this dish a lot because it was simple and flavorful. Other things people in our party got were steak and pesto pasta, both very good (but I think my dish was better). We ended the meal with tiramisu and coffee, a wonderful way to end the meal. This was one of my favorite dining experiences in Italy. Lovely view, tasty food - just perfect. read more

This is the most beautiful place I've ever been served a meal. I had only a handful of hours in Cinque Terre, and I'd heard that it would be wise to track down a pesto dish while in one of the five towns. I'm glad I chose this spot to complete that assignment because it was a fantastic pesto pasta and I got to eat it against a backdrop of jaw-dropping spectacle. All the seating, as far as I can tell, is on outdoor tiers that hug the cliffs just like all the buildings you probably came to Cinque Terre to view. When I was there it was around 12:30 on a sunny Thursday in late May, and it seemed like it would have been more crowded except for the hike that's required to get here. But if you're in CT and you're not prepared for some stair-climbing... Anyway, all I had was that excellent pesto pasta and the bread they gave me. It was all just so good and in case you haven't noticed, I was just so greatly bewitched by the charms of the location that I can scarcely think of anything else at all. Usually a place with one of the world's most amazing views can afford to rest on that Laurel. Not so at La Torre. We had easily the best meal so far in Italy and that is saying a lot as we frequented some wonderful restaurants in Roma's Testaccio. Our host was attentive, sensitive to the fact our Italian embarrassingly sucked, and accommodating to the our kids being a bit picky. I had the most amazing Pesto dish, Trofie al Pesto, I've been longing for since arriving. It beat the Cacio e Pepe I had in Testaccio for best dish yet. The steak was cooked perfect. The kids had belly aches from eating too much Tagliolini Ragu. They actually wanted a second serving. They simply couldn't stop raving about it. They've been quite picky about Pasta in Italy so far. It was fantastic to see them love something so much! The Tiramisu was fantastic but the Panna Cotta was addictive. Then of course, the view. It is simply the most amazing view I've ever had the privilege of dining from. Don't pass up La Torre. Ever. Call as soon as you can to get a reservation. Especially in the high season. read more

One of the best dining experiences I had in northern Italy. The views of Vernazza are unbeatable - definitely try to make it for sunset (and call ahead). Pretty much all the tables are on the terrace so you'll get an incredible view either way, but I recommend requesting against the rail, as it's the closest you'll get to the water. The hike up is pretty rough so prepare for that, but it weeds out a lot of the crowd and it's definitely worth it. The service is laid back but friendly and youthful. We had the octopus and the lobster pasta. The octopus was fresh, lemony and tasty, but the lobster pasta was a game changer. On the expensive side but the flavors were just incredible. One of the few occasions where I wanted to lick the plate. We love heavy California reds and the standout was the Liguria di Levante. A heavy local and spicy red with lots of flavor and character. We loved it. Overall, can't say enough, it was an awesome choice for dinner. read more

My entire time in Cinque Terre feels like it's been a completely unreal experience. It all has seemed so perfect and Bar La Torre has certainly kept the trip incredible. The restaurant is located a short hike up the hill from the centre or it's on the way from Corniglia to Vernazza. It's literally on the hill facing the beautiful town of Vernazza and the view is so incredible I can't even describe it. I think what totally throws me off is the view is so exceptional I can't imagine the food being as good, BUT IT IS. I ordered the special- house made squid ink spaghetti with prawns, and Andi got seafood spaghetti and it was also equally delicious and out of this world amazing. We made an rsvp the night before and I would definitely recommend doing that because when we left there were are lot of people waiting for tables. Getting to the restaurant is literally a hike so I would not recommend wearing dainty shoes or heels. I did see people with them but it makes it so much easier getting up and down the rocky stairs, especially at night. We got there at 7pm and they basically let us pick wherever to sit, basically first come first serve. Tables with the good views fill up the quickest. I'm allergic to seafood and nuts so I had the beef ragu, it was pretty average. The waiter said the pesto pasta was better but I already had a lot of pesto that day. My partner said the anchovies salad was his least favorite, they were incredibly salty and the capers on the salad didn't help. He liked the seafood pasta, not the best he's every had but solid. The side salad we got was fine but the purple cabbage leaves were too bitter. Lastly the panna cotta was very good and a nice finish to the meal. read more
