Worst blowout I've ever gotten. Avoid Franscisco. He made my hair so flat, it felt like thread. No body, no volume, no curl, no texture. Limp, lackluster, and hideous. That's NOT what I asked for. My hair is naturally very curly and holds body and volume beautifully. It responds well to a blow dryer and drys very quickly. Most stylists understand this and use it to their advantage. Not Francisco, though. His technique was unusual and ineffective and he talked a lot about his abilities and expertise without delivering. From the minute I sat down in his chair, he was talking about himself incessently. He kept telling me this will be the best blowout I've ever gotten. He was repeating himself about his celebrity clientele and his 25 years of experience. He said everyone in the neighborhood knew who he was and he was so busy with clients. All BS. With the way he was talking himself up, I expected the worst -- and I was right. He kept pulling and pulling on every strand so vigorously, it felt like he was pulverizing my hair. He randomly turned the fan on and off while he pointed it at my face and the back of my head. He would deliver these short blows at me, not sure why or what he aimed to achieve. He used both of his hands to smack and pat my head all over .. three times. Again, not sure what he aimed to achieve here. He employed an odd technique of using a comb and a straightening iron at the same time to curve and seperate pieces of hair. He said it would add body and volume. How could it after he flattened my hair to paper thin status? It honestly did nothing more than make my hair flatter. He sprayed product from two feet over my head. The entire experience was so strange. This was a complete waste of time and money. It took 45 minutes after being washed and cost me $50 ($42 service, $5 stylist tip, $3 hair washer tip). It usually takes 20 minutes to blow out my hair. I'm very disappointed with this place and I will never come back. read more

If you haven't been here yet to see Raven then you should do it right away! Raven has done all sorts of magic to my hair, ombré, haircuts, styling etc. Not only I have a great time hanging out with her while she takes care of my hair, but I always leave very excited about the results! She isn't only awesome at regular coloring/cut services, she's actually amazing at fixing other people's messes! If someone messed up your hair, there's a 99.9% chance she can fix it. I went to see raven a few years ago with my orange 90s highlights that I got at another salon ( to be clear I asked for ombre and got whatever that was instead ) and left Raven with the most beautiful ombré in one visit. Rita's is a little pricey but I continue to go back thanks to the expertise of Raven. I enjoy changing up my look seasonally with highlights or color, and with Raven I am able to explain what I want, show some inspo photos, and let her work her magic. I feel so comfortable giving Raven the liberty to adjust my request based on my skin tone and other factors! I always leave feeling great with an excellent color, cut, and blowout. The day before my sister's wedding I even went in for a blowout and it held up SO well the next day - I got so many compliments! Raven is really just magical. read more

I went to Rita's for the first time two weeks ago and I've been meaning to write a review on how great the experience was! I was TERRIFIED. I am super low maintenance when it comes to my hair. It's long, straight, and brown. I normally get it cut 2 or 3 times a year. I haven't done much more than trim it for years. BUT I had decided I wanted to switch things up, try some color and get a fresh cut after a long long wedding season. I saw their positive reviews on yelp and decided to give it a go and get some subtle high lights. I called on a Thursday afternoon and had an appointment for 5pm the following day with no problems. The staff was incredibly friendly when I arrived and the salon was open, light, clean and nicely decorated. To my surprise, Rita herself was going to do my hair today and she could not have been nicer! I think perhaps she saw the fear in my eyes and really listened to everything I had to say. You can tell that the staff all seem to get along very well and have a mutual level of respect for each other. There was a very positive, upbeat vibe in the salon. Rita has years of experience with color and every single person that was in the salon that day was having some kind of color work done, which to me, was a good sign. When all was said and done, my hair was great. She didn't cut too much and she used just the right tone on tone colors to give me some subtle highlights and ease me into the world of hair color. I left with a big smile on my face and look forward to going back again soon! read more

I tried this salon since it was highly recommended from a good friend of mine and i was VERY impressed!!! My hair never looked better!!! I have strait normal hair and i had e few bad experiences in the city. I changed the color from blond (highlights) to light brown. Rita which is the owner, not only did a fabulous job, but she matched exactly my original color. After the coloring was done by Rita, the cut was done by Giro. My hair looked so beautiful after the style. Its very easy to style them every morning since he showed me what to do. If you like to have a wonderful experience, and you are tired of trying new places and get frustrated from their work, you should def try this place. On another note, its soooo clean and they always offer you a beverage. I will ALWAYS go there. read more

I did not have a good experience here. It looks like their pricing on Yelp has been updated since my visit, but it was WAY off when I booked. I ended up spending over $220, when I expected it to be under $150. I told the stylist I wanted some natural highlights, but I ended up with blonde streaks in my hair. I could tell they were trying to be nice, but I was quite upset with how my hair turned out and was shocked by the pricing. I will not be back. read more

Update - Rita was supposed to call me to resolve this and touch base on how to improve my trauma. I stopped by the hair salon twice and was given a date she would get back to me. It's been over one month. When I came in, I asked her to speak in the back and she accused me of lying as I told her my story. At no point was there an apology, but she did admit four times that Francisco has a practice of illegally recording his team. Separately, during this visit, I was promised a written apology and in writing a commitment that he wouldn't illegally record others. We'll see how that happens. All I know is that Francisco did specifically go out of his way to tell me how unattractive i was and that I should not live in nyc. What a great place! Francisco illegally recorded me and harassed me. I made the other stylists aware and they did not care. I had to call the police who had to record his information. I have not yet decided if I am pressing charges but I did catch him in two lies and did see that he still has posted videos of his clients since learning it is illegal without consent. In one of the videos on his site, you can even hear a client saying she doesn't want to be recorded. Disgusting. Violating. Illegal. this man is creepy and inappropriate and should be arrested. Separately I have heard from someone who visited the salon in 2016 and a similar thing happened with a hair stylist. The person who disclosed this to me described him as red / copper haired but otherwise his creepy personality and illegal recording sounds just like Francisco. Stay away. read more

Francisco has been my hairdresser for over 11 yrs and I have gladly followed him from salon to salon! Very happy he has made his home at the lovely Rita Coif & Colour, whose whole staff is so welcoming and professional! But Francisco is the undisputed star and I would not trust my short hair to anyone else. He is so warm and friendly and beyond talented, and I really can't recommend him highly enough! He always listens to what I need him to do and I really appreciate how he never pressures me to color my hair as so many others have done in the past. This is a really nice place to come to. I come here to see Francisco who recently moved here , he has been cutting my hair for over 14 years. He does a fantastic job every time. I recommended my wife who needed a new hairstylist to try his work. She was very skeptical about doing her hair with anyone. I convinced her and she decided to do her hair with him and she was surprised about his work and how good he is with his clients. He makes everyone feel welcomed and is always very cheerful. Overall my wife fell in love with his work and has been doing her hair with him since. You must ask for Francisco when you come here, he's the best and with lots of experience. read more

I will say, right off the bat, I gave this salon a 2 out of 5 because it is honestly the first place I have EVER been to that has left my hair walking out worse than how I walked in. This is because their basic "haircut" for $38 doesn't include having their clients walk out in a presentable manner. It includes unprofessionally running a blow dryer through your hair, separating each strand for maximized "unwanted" volume and frizz. The ONLY reason I didn't give it a 1 out of 5 is because my stylist at least looked apologetic and disclosed that if she made my hair lay flat, her boss would consider it a style and charge me extra. I asked them how much it would cost. They said an extra $37 when I just looked at their menu price and a simple hair straightening is listed at $10 WHICH WAS WHAT I WANTED TO BEGIN WITH. So, here's what happened: For being such an over-priced salon in Manhattan, I had much higher expectations. I checked out the place on Yelp, saw that it had 5-stars, took a quick look at their prices and saw women's haircut listed at $40. P.S - If you would have told me $40 for a standard haircut when I lived in IL, my jaw would have dropped because typical decent haircuts (WITH leaving their client's hair in acceptable conditions) was $14-18. Occassionally, you would get a very good salon charging $28 for their haircuts. Having said that, I'm now acclimated to NY's ridiculous prices and have accepted that a standard haircut with a plain walk out "style" is around $38. Anyway... I wasn't happy with the actual cut. I didn't bother saying anything because I had a show to go to at 1:40 pm and it was already 1:20 pm, but I showed her a picture my usual stylist does for my hair: http://i.imgur.com/bWSzcYn.jpg And all she ended up doing was run around trimming my hair since the last person who cut my hair (NOT the guy who did the cut above) screwed up my hair. Perhaps this was a misunderstanding, but I walked out looking NOTHING like that cut at all and because of the way she blew dry my hair, I looked even WORSE. I had to put half my hair in a ponytail and I was nearly in tears watching what she was doing with her damn blow dryer. It was honestly a worse experience than the guy who completely butchered my hair cut. I mean, damn, at least I walked out looking presentable with my uneven hair. I know that what was listed on the menu was a just haircut, but EVERY hair salon I have EVER, EVER, EVER been to has had their "Haircuts" include a standard hair down "style". Its wrong to let a client walk out with their hair looking like the Frizz God struck me down. It doesn't take that much effort to point a hair dryer DOWN instead of flipping my hair all over the place, separating each strand and not even bothering with a brush. This was just so unprofessional to me. ANY professional hair stylist would know doing that to someone's hair that has my hair type is only going to exacerbate the problem. Honestly, my hair would have been less frizzy and more straight if dried NATURALLY. These people go to beauty school to learn what to do for different hair types and it honestly just felt like she was supposed to (her boss wants her to) do such a horrible job puffing my hair up that I would fold and pay the extra money. I didn't have extra money this time around. And it's not because I'm cheap. I pay $230 EVERY time I have to re-dye my hair purple. This was just almost scam-worthy. Although I like the stylist (she clearly knew what she was doing because she sympathy-blw dried my bangs straight), that company is just ridiculous that they would honestly let a client walk out the way they did. I wish I would have taken a picture last night, but I guess I can duplicate the same results by flipping my hair around a blow dryer anyway. Shame on them. I will never deviate from Sub-Image in Flushing Queens again. They have reasonable prices, yes, its chinese-staffed, but damn, you look good EVERY time you walk out that door. read more

Worst haircut and color I ever received. I believe my operators name is marrisa's, she is from Romaniamy husband is very sick, I finally a chance to take a break and do something for myself. I just went in for a consultation with Randa, but I ended up with walking out out 3 hours later with a completely new hairstyle. Randa was a total wizard with bayalage and knew just what to do to revamp my cut. Well it's a year later and once again Rita gave me the best keratin treatment. Because it can tend to lighten my hair she took extra care in coloring it first so the highlights and definition wouldn't be altered. Well true to form she did a beautiful job. I traveled to an extremely humid city in Europe and my hair looked gorgeous. I was told by someone who recommended me to this salon that the price for a cut and blow would be around $60. Worst bang trim I have ever had. Half my bangs are one length and the other half is MUCH shorter. Never going back.

Went for bang trim. Just wanted same exact style but shorter. I even had a photo but stylist could not duplicate. Butchered my bangs and even cut some hair. Had to go somewhere else to repair, but was unrepairable. Most unfortunate bang trim ever. Will take months to repair the damage and embarrassing haircut. read more
