I was working in Morgan City and a friend of mine wanted to grab a quick bite. After looking at the picture menu, we quickly settled in on this place. It was near to the hardware store on front st that we were located. A quick mention of open faced roast beef and crab burgers made the decision-- yup, let's go there!! My co-worker and I got the same thing. A mini seafood platter that hit the spot. It was perfect. When finished, we weren't stuffed, and we weren't hungry . I'm from New Orleans & you won't find anything near this good in the metro area! It was like the ghost of Bruning's came back to life. That's how good it was. The shrimp were plentiful, the fish tasted perfect, the sauce was on time, and it was magnificently fried. The bill was reasonable and the service was awesome. Our group of three didn't feel welcomed at all originally, but she came around. As native of Houma relatively close to Morgan City, I DO NOT recommend the Chicken & Sausage gumbo. The chicken is unseasoned drumettes, there is NO "browned" flavor, and there's diced tomatoes in it. The flavor gives beef broth and tomato. The potato salad is runny and sweet. Wonderfully home cooked food. Made with love. Freshly prepared and huge portions. Comfort food. Oh so delicious. Small old time house with view of the kitchen. Can smell the fresh food as it's being freshly prepared as each customer comes in to order. Hard to decide what you want yourself as everything is so delicious. Seriously good southern food. We were hungry on New Years Day and happened upon this small homely place. It was probably the only establishment open in Morgan City but glad we found it! The hamburger was one of the best I've ever had and the menu was extensive. I highly recommend a stop here if you are in town! Wow! I'm from Alaska and wanted to explore the South. We are in Southern Louisiana and desired to get "the real thing". I'm not talking coca-cola! This was it. The Fried catfish reminded me of my time as a child. The corn was sweet little ears. The biscuit, divine! My husband got seafood gumbo. It had great flavor! Also, he had never had real Southern sweet iced tea before. Ha! What a hoot - to see his face when he really tasted "the real thing"! While visiting a friend in Morgan City, he suggested this place. He said he and his coworkers order from here for lunch when he is working in the city. When he said baked pork chops, I was sold. The place is rather small, but you get that southern feel when you walk in. We sat at a table and had to wait several minutes for the waitress to take our order. My friend became very impatient, but I am glad I got him to wait a little longer. I ordered the baked pork chops with red beans and corn. He ordered the same with the exception of white beans. The pork chop was baked to perfection. The taste was excellent. I usually don't eat everyone's red beans but these were amazing. I would never pair corn, but it paired well with the meal. I was so full and satisfied with my meal. If/when I go back to Morgan City, I will try this place again. There are other things on the menu I would try. Oh my! What a treat! Hands down best Gumbo I have EVER had! I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and the oyster Poboy. My husband had the crab Poboy. Oysters were great, the crab cake was to die for. This is a cute little place! It's like dining at Rita Mae's house. We got a friendly greeting as we came in the door and were directed to a table by the front window. I ordered the shrimp stew special of the day. It had shrimp and smoked sausage. The taste was great but the shrimp were a little over cooked in the stew. That didn't stop me from cleaning my plate thoug. My husband got the shrimp and okra gumbo which was spicy and delicious. We shared a sweet potato pie that was sweet and creamy. I love this place so much that I visit here weekly especially for my fried fish with white beans. The batter on her fish is so fried lightly crispy. The white beans are so creamy and it comes with a seasonal veggie and amazing cornbread. You can not leave without have Ms. Rita peach cobbler! It's warm and gooey! I was so excited to come to this place and show up at 7:30 on a Tuesday. The sign on the door says it's open to 10 PM and here on yelp it says it's open till nine. A very cute local restaurant not far from Rte 90. Fresh food made to order. We had a cheeseburger and fries with Gumbo and desserts (pecan pie and peach cobbler). Great homemade fresh burger, delicious gumbo with just enough heat and large chunks of chicken and sausage. 99% of the year I am a vegetarian, but sometimes I break the rules. And I happily broke them for probably the best fried chicken I will ever eat. It was moist, perfectly crisply fried, perfectly spiced and delicious. I ate every morsel I could off of those bones. It came accompanied with the white beans. Mmmmmmm. We sat next to a friend of the chef's who was sweet, informative and quite interesting. As we sat there chomping away, numerous locals came in who all knew the friend of the chef's as well as the chef himself. I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants delicious, southern, amazing and authentic food.
