I had been meaning to stop into Rita's Oriental Rugs for some time now, as I've been in the market for an authentic Persian rug for the past few months. After scouring websites, I decided I was going to have to make an in person decision for such a lofty investment. Sticking to my motto of "buy right the first time, don't be sorry later," I decided online purchases, while appealing in price, could result in an overpriced knock off Persian rug and I wanted no part of that. So on my way to dinner in West Lakeview I finally popped into Rita's intending to only browse. That is until I fell in love at first sight with a Bokhara rug, in just the size and color scheme I was seeking - a little bigger than a standard 6x9, with rich burgundy/mahogany hues. Dileep saw my eyes light up, and broke the news to me that it was double the budget I had shared with him. So we continued on, flipping rug after rug, seeking something I loved just as much, but never quite getting me to that mushy, lovey feeling of the Bokhara. Because Rita's will deliver multiple rugs so their clients can see them in their space, I decided I would pick out three rugs, and in the end I included the Bokhara among those three (oh my word - what was i doing??!!?). Dileep and his colleague came last night, complete with three rugs and additional fourth Bokhara in a 5x7 size (I had mentioned needing to replace my kitchen rug as well, and knowing how much I love the Bokhara design, he thought one might work for the kitchen - now that's a salesman if I ever saw one!). I will never go to Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel for a rug again. We needed an 8x10 area rug for our home after the (expensive and poor quality) jute rug we had purchased at Pottery Barn 5 years earlier wore out. That rug had actually been worn out for years, we just finally had some extra cash to do some updating and decided the carpet had to go. We were not set on a store to shop at. I had looked at prices and inventory at several of the Lincoln Ave. rug shops before heading out, but as it was a Sunday, only a few were open so Rita got our business by default. The men here were so helpful in selecting a rug, giving advice both on which patterns were more suitable for our living space, as well as which colors would best complement our unique paint color in our living room. We could not afford a "real" oriental rug (someday!) but they explained the differences in price and quality of the knock-off or machine-made rugs. We went to Rita Rugs this weekend, and had a great experience! Shan got us started by looking through all the different options, and after looking through many of his selections, we found quite a few that we really liked. He, Dileep, and one other guy (sorry forgot his name!) went through our "semi-finalist" rugs and they explained the quality differences, pricing differences, why some were better in certain areas than others, etc. Although, I liked some of the bamboo ones, they let me know it was easier to clean the wool rugs. As such, we looked for bamboo rugs in areas with less traffic and either a wool or wool/mix rug for areas like the dining room where there might be spills. Anyway, we finally narrowed it down to two possibilities for the dining room, one for the living room, one for the powder room, and one for the entry way. When we couldn't quite decide, Shan suggested that we bring them home and try them in our space. The next day, Dileep and his associate brought the rugs over and tried them out for us. What a help that was! It made it completely obvious that the living room rug was the "right" one. We actually really liked all of them - the only one that didn't quite work was the potential entry way rug - even though it was a beautiful rug, the color didn't quite match my décor. We sent that one back, and Dileep said he had some other ideas for that space. He came back the next day with four new rugs for the entry way. Again, all were nice, and one was perfect! So we ended up getting that rug as well. Overall, a very good experience - we really liked the rugs and thought the prices were fair - and very importantly, the customer service was the best! We are so happy we found Rita Oriental Rugs! We had been searching for the perfect rugs for our new modern home in the city - and had tried rugs from Room and Board, West Elm, Pottery Barn, etc. Nothing fit the space right, and none of it was unique. We walked into Rita on a Sunday and met Dileep and Elizabeth, for whom good service is clearly their top priority. We showed them photos of our space and they helped make great suggestions on rugs. They flipped through hundreds of beautiful, quality handmade rugs and then laid them out on the floor for us to see better. We ended up with four 8x10 rugs we thought might work, and Dileep suggested we try them all at home before making a decision. Dileep and another worker packed our car with the rugs for us to try at home, rug pads, and a few 2x3s. They even offered to drop them off at our house but we couldn't wait any longer to try them out! Two days later, Dileep scheduled a time to drop by our house and pickup the rugs that didn't work. We ended up purchasing a transitional Indian rug for our dining room and two (insanely soft) floor mats for the kitchen and bathroom. We returned the next week and picked out another set of rugs for our bedroom, with the same great service, and this time also worked with Shan, the owner. Great experience. I had a wonderful experience with Shan at Rita's Rugs today! I just moved to the neighborhood and was taking a walk when I spotted a beautiful rug hanging in the window. I have been to several other oriental rug shops, so I cringed at the thought of walking into a high-pressure sales environment and hearing that the rug that I liked was massively out of my price range. I stopped in to browse rugs yesterday. I knew the approximate size and color, but not exactly. Dileeb was extremely helpful in helping me come up with the correct size and color combination. We have had such a great experience at Rita Rugs - so impressed by the quality of rugs and customer service. We just purchased a new house and were searching for large oriental rugs for our dining room, living room and a smaller rug for our hallway. After some research we had 4 stores selected in Chicago to visit and stopped by Rita's first and we are so glad we did - we didn't even need to go to the other 3 stores after visiting Rita's. Upon entering the store, we were met right away by Elizabeth and she took the time to understand what we were looking for and encouraged us to show her pictures so she could understand the spaces we were trying to fill. She then helped us select some rugs to look at on the floor and explained the differences in each rug (styles, # of knots, color variances, etc). We were there for at least 2 hours and we never felt rushed or pressured at anytime. We selected 3 rugs and they offered to let us take them home to see them in the space before we made a final decision and then generously offered to come to our home to install the carpet pads for the ones we decided to keep - we live in the suburbs so this was much appreciated! We got the rugs home and absolutely loved 2 of the 3 and called Elizabeth to tell her our decision. It was clear that the rug we had selected for our living room was much too small so Elizabeth immediately sent over some pictures of alternatives and offered to have the rugs that we liked brought to our house to look at. Dilip and Shan showed up the next day with the new rugs and were so helpful with their opinions and installing the carpet pads. We were on the fence on one of the rugs so Shan encouraged us to keep it for a few days to think on it - so generous! In the end, we didn't keep the third rug but we are headed back to Rita's soon to find some other options. My wife and I had shopped around quite a bit for our first large rug. Our place went through a make-over and this included new/different furniture and a large rug to match our custom pieces. We had a budget and some ideas in mind regarding our rug and eventually discovered Rita Oriental Rugs. Shan was very accommodating and informative to say the least. He has a very friendly vibe that is genuine, not specious like most salespersons. Shan was also quite patient as we went through several stacks of rugs. He had an intuition about one rug (toward the bottom of a huge stack!). I thought it was perfect, the Mrs. wasn't so sure...plus, it was double our budget. Shan took off 15% even though it was already discounted, and allowed us to take it home without commitment to purchase (as long as we returned it within 3 days). Who does that?!? The "handshake" types of business transactions, where honor is respected, is hard to find these days. We immediately loved our new rug when it was delivered, but had to wait for our custom sofa to arrive to make a final determination. Unfortunately, there was a delay in the delivery of our sofa by two days, and Shan had no problem with us waiting two more days before making our decision regarding the rug. I must add that the delivery was on time (as promised), and great care went into its placement (and properly lining up the matting). The delivery person (whose name slips my mind) even moved a sofa into another room without thinking twice in order to lay down the rug (that alone was worth the twenty dollar tip). The sofa finally arrived, and it was a perfect fit with the rug...perfect. Within a week we returned and got a small front hallway rug...same deal (take it for a few days). It was Shan's selection and we had an intuition it would work. It certainly did. In all, my wife and I are a bit selective across the board. I don't care for salespersons, and customer service (when truly exercised) goes far in our book. Rita Rugs has genuine customer service plus good quality rugs. I might mention that my wife and I were stuck between two rugs at other places (one too lavish, the other not so good quality). Shan's selection was the "just right" feel for us both, of a fabric that is easy to clean (we have a dog), and an incredible color match/design to boot. Let me preface this review with the fact that I design modern rugs for a living. When I go into rug stores I don't mention my occupation and I see how honest the sales people are regarding the value of their goods. I had a great experience with the people at Rita a few months ago. Randomly stopped in and found two beautiful red runners. The salesmen were honest and offered a fair price for the runners. It was late in the day and we don't own a car so the salesman actually brought the runners, pads for the runners, and an 8'x10' pad (for a rug I already owned) over to our apartment for free!
