Disclaimer - We did not buy a rug here. My mom was looking for an area rug for a home office. The inventory soon made it clear we would be better served by going to Menards or a similar store for that purchase because of her rug budget. (She needed cheap and functional...) Rugport has hand-made rugs that are works of art. They are not cheap but the quality and obvious attention to detail are outstanding. The owner got a chair for my elderly mother to sit in while we looked at the inventory. It quickly became obvious we were not looking for the cost and quality Rugport offers. But did he rush us out the door? No! He sat and talked with my mom for almost a half hour. He was super-friendly and loved to chat with us. As we left he insisted we take some potted cabbage plant plugs he had that a landscaping crew was planting on the small garden plots outside the shop! Rugport has been in Palatine for ages. If you have a higher-end rug budget, this is the place to go!! read more

We took our high end shag rug to get cleaned and we were looking forward to having it cleaned and refreshed. It came back with a terrible odor and multiple stains that looked like it was dyed with red. There were not any precious stains on the rug prior to getting cleaned. From the moment I called this place, the guy was beyond rude. I wanted my oriental rug to be cleaned and paid extra to have it picked up from my house as I have a small car. The price he quoted on the phone was different then when he showed up at my house. It was $15 so whatever, I didn't make a big deal about it. They said they'd call when it was done. I pointed out the pet stains (that were very light anyway) and he said they would come out no problem. A month later, I call them. They lost the rug and had to call me back. Thank goodness i kept the paperwork. A few hours later they called me back and found it. Then he proceeded to yell at me because I didn't come get it sooner. Umm because you were supposed to call ME when it's done & I paid for delivery! So they delivered it the next day. It looked AWFUL!! Worse than before. They didn't pretreat the pet stains (like they told me they would) so they turned my beautiful white rug yellow in spots. They admitted it was not good so they took the rug back to wash it again. Another month goes by. I call to check on it. He's rude AGAIN on the phone and asks me yet again why I didnt come get it. This guy can't keep anything straight...how does he run a business? So they deliver it the next day. It looks better but the stains are still visible. The rug also SHRUNK bc who knows what they did to it at this point. It no longer fits my rug pad and the ends are uneven. Then he tries to charge more money for the 2nd washing after he agreed it didn't come out right the first time. This guy is just a di#k, completely rude and unprofessional through the whole process. Never once was I rude or even raised my voice, so it was completely unnecessary. He ruined my rug and in the end, I donated it to Goodwill. Please go somewhere else unless you want to be treated poorly and have them ruined your expensive rugs in the process. read more

I checked out this place last time I was in Palatine, as it came highly recommended to us by a few family members who live in the area. They were right! Great selection and great service! Very helpful owners, I highly recommend. If you truly treasure your oriental carpets, this is the place you'll have them cleaned and repaired/restored. Alex and his staff are so friendly. Most important, they do all the process the old Persian way, which is by hand. No machines touch your carpets during any of the processes. The pricing was very reasonable and the work was done on time. The repair work done was amazing. The cleaning unbelievable how vibrant the colors become after a proper cleaning. I had 2 old and large oriental rugs that needed to be cleaned and repaired. One of these rugs was under a grand piano. I decided to have Rugport do this work. They sent 3 people to pick-up the rugs. The workers all wore masks and they took their shoes off before entering the house. I did have the opportunity to go to the Rugport Palatine store to discuss the options for the fringe. The employees in the store were masked. The store has a very large selection of rugs. I was very pleased with the cleaning, repairs, and the new fringe. The rugs and pads were delivered and carefully put in place including under the grand piano. The co-owner helped me find a beautiful Kashkuli Rug for my entryway which was inspired by a painting from a famous Persian palace owned by Cyrus the Great,in the ancient city of Persepolis.This was like no other rug I have ever seen--I can't stop looking at it ever since I brought it home! Our priority was to find one rug, and we ended up purchasing three in total. 1) The customer service was great, and at no time did we feel pressured to buy. (We worked primarily with Houshi.) Purchasing a rug is an investment, so the last thing you want is to feel rushed. It took us a number of visits to finally hit on the right rugs for our home, and they were very patient, allowing us to take our time and feel confident with our choices. 2) Their prices are very competitive, and there is room for negotiation. We visited at least 5 other rug shops, and Rugport's prices were fair and in most cases less than what we had seen elsewhere. 3) We spent some time visiting various rug shops to get a feel for "what's out there." The selection at Rugport far surpassed what was available at the other shops. For years, I had a cat who would deposit her hairballs on the fringe of my best rug and I was worried that her remnants would never leave. This place knows what they are doing, believe me.
