If I could give them zero stars, I would. First time coming here. Normal vibe of a barber shop. Brought in one of my clients. He didn't want to go short due to the cold weather, so he asked for a trim on top and just buzz off his beard. Since he is elderly , rarely get a woman's attention. Somehow she convinced him to just buzz his beautiful hair off. When it came time to pay, they didn't take card, Zelle, or Venmo. She sent me to the liquor store for the atm. Keep in mind, they had no sign stating "cash only" When I asked her how much it was. She said $36. Instead of arguing with her, I just paid it and decided never to come back with any of my clients. So, she ended up just buzzing his head with what looks like a 1 or 2 guard and completely took of his beard. In total I paid: $36 (buzz cut and beard removal) $7 in fees to pull cash in the atm $4 for tip - only because I took out $40. Total: $47 Do you think this is right? I think not. I'm sure the barbers here are good and whatever haircuts they normally specialize in but I would highly not recommend this place to anyone trying to get a skin fade (mainly thinking of military guys). I asked for a medium skin fade and received one of the worst high and tights since the PX barbers in Okinawa and paid twice as much for it. I walked away satisfied but not ecstatic about the cut. I would say the cut looks great overall. There are just some things you miss out on when not at a true barber shop. The parking was easy. Type of cut: #0 taper fade w/ a #10 on top. Pros: -Kevin is detail-oriented w/ sure hands, dosen't mess up on anybody. -A #10 clipper guard exists here (1.25 inches in length of hair) which leaves the top of my hair to evenly comb-over. -The price is good for the quality of cut. Chau and her staff are amazing people. While I was there long after the closing time, someone called and Chau's mobile phone rang. She said to the person on the phone to come in anyway, who wanted to have a haircut but it was past the closing time except me being inside having a haircut done. She then cut my hair, but the person who called was still not there. I asked if she was willing to wait. She said of course, she will wait. I was amazed hearing that. It was a great feeling that Chau offered great customer service. As having experience in retail, I would have done the same thing for my customer. I'm a 61 year old male and have been doing the salon thing for a while and just thought this time I would try a barber shop. Tried to do one of those boutique trendy Barber Shops but they were booked and I'm glad they were. The cut I received was one of the best I've had. The barber (never got his name) but he spent about a half hour on me and his attention to detail was more than I expected. He used several razors and took his time ensuring all the lines were perfect and when he used the scissors he was careful to not cut more than I wanted. I thought about not writing a review bc I hate to knock a small business, and I am sure they are nice people. But I went and got a haircut on a holiday from them because they were the only one open in Encinitas where I happened to be that afternoon. I just really wanted to get a haircut, but should have waited another day bc I had a bad feeling from when I even just called to see if they were open. Anyway, I showed some pictures of a low fade on the sides, and keeping some body in the back bc I had grown it out. She ended up going straight up the sides, pretty immediate. And I could only see half my head from the chair I was in and didn't have my glasses. Straight up the sides, no fade, nothing like the picture. The back, really bad and not blended. Top, not blended well from how she shaved the sides. The two worse parts for me:: 1) she shaved some of my hairline on my forehead by my temples which was not needed at all bc that is well defined for me and she did not ask, now that won't be pretty growing out... 2) I originally told her I don't need the top done, just the sides and any necessary blending. She told me after doing most of the sides, that apparently my top was uneven. I was shocked bc the barber that did my last haircut was excellent, and I literally asked, where? She didn't answer and went ahead going through my whole top and trimming about a half inch. Even worse, she then went through my entire head with thinning scissors which my hair does NOT need and I was not asked. I honestly think she said my hair was uneven so she could charge a full cut instead of just the sides. When it was over I couldn't tell if maybe it was okay, of course she said it was great. I paid, tipped, and left. By the time I was home that day and had seen my head from different angles, I knew it needed to be fixed. Today I went and had my last barber fix it. Now I have a haircut that I didn't initially want, but at least it looks like a purposeful and not botched haircut, and it will grow out well. And guess what - my barber told me the top of my head was seriously uneven!! She showed me and it was!! So then my barber had to cut my top even more to fix it. Very bummed with this experience. I'm sure you can get a good haircut here, but it probably has to be specific to what they mostly do. Never again. Sticking with the two barbers I know I do like in different neighborhoods and I'm done trying random shops, especially when my gut tells me no. Lesson learned, again... listen to my gut. read more
