I've been coming to American Deluxe for 11 years. I was previously going to another barbershop in Encinitas that was cheaper, but they spent 1/3rd of the time on the cut, and I'd always have to fix my sideburns or lineup when I got home. Ever since coming here, I can't go anywhere else. I have since moved down to North Park and still insist on driving twice a month up to Encinitas just to see my barber. All the barbers are fantastic. Rico, Gino, Ant, Brian, Alex, Zach, etc - you can't go wrong. The shop has a great modern vibe, while still having the classic barbershop touch. I have finally found a place that I can call "my barber shop". I found it a little difficult to find a shop close to home that was fast, affordable, and preformed. I have come twice now and plan on coming when needed. I like that they have multiple barbers available which cuts a line down quickly when waiting. I will say the only downfall is that the wait can get long if you go at busy times. I try to go early or on off times. Check em out! read more

Simply the best haircut I've gotten while living in North County, always consistent, no matter what Barber cut your hair. Today was no exception, I didn't know who was going to cut my hair, but I walked out as happy as I always do. Good vibes and I never wait more than 15-20 minutes for a cut unless it's the weekend. Prices are reasonable, location is awesome, and the bartenders are friendly and talented. I am so disappointed in what my father, a 79 year old veteran of the vietnam war and decorated Navy enlisted man told me about this place and how they treated him. He said he walked in and it wasn't very busy and he asked a barber who was sweeping up if he could get a hair cut, and the barber nastily remarked to him, "I'll get to you when I'm done!" I understand that everyone has a bad day, but my father who is visiting a few months of the year goes to this place every time he gets a chance and besides being rude, it was flat out disgusting to treat the elderly this way, nonetheless a veteran who served his country. I will find another place to take my son and Dad going forward, even though we have been going there for years. You might consider the same. read more

I love a cash only, old-school barber shop that doesn't mess around. You don't get to work there if you have an attitude and can't cut hair. Rico screens his barbers pretty well. Walk in, grab a number, check the number board, ask what the wait time is (approximately) and go do a couple things. Check out the scuba shop next door...have a beer or bite of food at Mr. Peabodys, grab some Mexican food, shop at the gourmet grocery store, hit up Wendy's, get a 30 minute stretch session at Stretch Zone...lots of ways to fill your time. Then head back and know that no matter who cuts your hair it's going to be good. I prefer Rico (owner) and Sunshine (cool hair, great smile) but haven't had a bad cut yet. They can do small talk, you can sit and chill and not say much as well, it's all good. Great low-key vibe and usually cool tunes jamming in the background. Place is always has always a steady flow of customers - a good sign. Plan on a 30 minute wait or so and conduct your business accordingly. ATM on premises so you can pay for your haircut in greenbacks, wampum, dead presidents, you know the drill. It's $35 - but toss an extra $5 or $10 and feel like a big spender. You will be appreciated more than you know. read more

American Deluxe is a killer spot to get a haircut! The shop is modern, inviting and relaxing. The plaza can be tough to get in and out of but worth the effort. Rico has great attention to detail and doesn't mind making a few changes here and there if the final length is too long or fade is lower than expected.
