I started with FitBody on a promotion, thinking I would just give it a try...and here I am 11 months later! I love the workouts and the friendly community. Several months going to this gym. And though the two main coaches are great, it's financial contacts and policies and not a lot of humanness. End of the day, you're trapped into a financial agreement both on the way in and the way out. I put in my 4 weeks notice to leave and they insist on charging me for 5 weeks, though I've not gone at all for weeks in a row. Unethical, corporate, BS. It's not cheap, on average at least $200 a month, and they only want the money. I will be taking my business away from this money drain. Unless you have the expendable income and desire for this type of control I suggest you also find somewhere else. read more

This is something different I have tried, it's fun and also hard, especially core workout, you can hit different parts of your body in 45 min along with some cardio. Coach comes around and correct your forms, modifies move to all different fitness levels, and group exercise gives motivation not to drop in a middle of workout. If you never try this, you should give a shot, they offer three free classes (or find a deal with Groupon). Only hang up for me is they are not open on Sunday, so my only options is 5:15a class, and Saturday morning, I try to juggle with my yoga class (which is 6a), try to hit three times a week... which was recommended to do to get result, also they only offer monthly membership (though it's unlimited and you can do twice a day if you want!), so it won't work for my schedule and lifestyle right now, but I got good workout and they locate nationwide, this would be a good alternative option while I am traveling. read more

My partner and I signed up for a 6 week class. Our plan was to do it every weekday (we did). We both absolutely loved coming here. The staff are amazing, very motivational. They also work with your limitations while still pushing you to work as hard as possible. It helped me tremendously with my pain (lower back and hip). It was easy to sign up online for class so you can just check in quickly when there. You never knew what to expect for your workout. That's what we loved about it - constantly changing the exercises, style of workout, and body parts worked from day to day. Keeps you engaged in the class. Other members are also very encouraging. That's what I enjoy about classes like this. Wish my partner's schedule allowed him to continue, but he's not a morning person and a 5am class is just too much for him. read more

I signed up for their 6-week Groupon and fell in love. If you're someone that loves group classes, works better under the fear that someone else is watching you, and feels lost in the gym, this is perfect. There are always two couches to help correct your movements. I especially appreciated Taylor and Shawn - they were made for couching. I went almost everyday for 6 weeks and felt myself getting stronger in the short time. The workouts are different everyday, short, fun but a killer. They also have convenient times in the morning and evening. Once I can afford a more regular membership, I will definitely be back. read more

Huge shout-out to trainers, Will and Julian. These guys keep you motivated and engaged every single class. I love how the work-outs are different every single day. I am constantly sore just because of how much they mix up core, cardio, weights, etc. I have even changed my daily routine to the 5:20 AM work out (yikes!). I love this gym. I've been to many gyms, bootcamps, yoga studios and so on over the years, and this one is my favorite. The classes are hard, varied, and fun. Not to mention quick! I've been going to PFBB off and on for about 1-2 years, and I've just started back. Here's my review on the Good and the Not So Good. Availability: Located around the corner from Jam on Hawthorne, I love that this place is open from early morning until evening. Consider yourself a morning person? Take a 5:45am class. More of a night person? They've got that too. That way you have no excuse NOT to go. Classes are about 45 minutes, so by the time you crawl out of bed and get there, it's pretty much over. Workouts: The workouts change every day, so you'll never get bored. One day you might work on core, the next cardio, and the next something else. I like this because I'm a cardio Queen, so this pushes me to do everything. The layout is warm-up, a round of five different workouts, a 1 minute break, do the round-up again, then stretch. And let me tell you, it isn't easy! Crowd: The instructors are super friendly and will help you when you're struggling. They aren't pushy. You also have the option of doing a moderation of the workout. And the people that I've worked out with a really nice and encourage you as well. Price: It is pricey, so check out Groupon or Class Pass for deals. Layout: The space gives you plenty of room to workout without bumping into others. Equipment is standard (kettle belts, yoga balls, weights, etc), but the focus is using your body. The only negative is that there's no showers, but I can live without that. Overall, I highly recommend this place and I'm loving going back to the gym and getting the hardest but best workout ever! read more

When I say "as good as it gets" what I'm really intending to convey here is that it's perfect for my own personal needs. Lemme 'splain: 1) I want to lose weight. C'mon. Let's be honest here. 2) I've struggled my whole life with mornings, and I've desperately wanted to become a morning person for - oh - YEARS. (Like, I'm talking about the really painful kind of struggling that involves guilt, morose fits when interrupted from late-morning REM cycles, and learned helplessness of some insidious breed or another.) 3) I want to get fit. Strong. Healthy. Energetic. Now - I've been going to Emily's classes for over a month, and here's what I've noticed: 1) I fit into my skinny(er) jeans. Woohoo! 2) I almost couldn't care about that because I'm so durned excited to be awake (most...) mornings! No really. Not just 'cuz Emily's class is packed with energy in its own right (post-class sweat drippin' conversations = "How ya doin?" "Better now! Definitely awake!") but because when I have days off (Wednesday and Sunday) I find myself enjoying sunrises and making ambitious plans to go running... just like I've always dreamed... 3) Those 2 things are nearly subsumed by the incredible increase in energy and vitality I've experienced in the last month. I feel strong, awake throughout the day, and have this crazy urge to jog several times a week. At night. One of my friends joined the class and I had to tell her "Don't think about it. Just go tomorrow. You'll just think yourself out of it." And I agree with my advice. Just get up and GO! Your body will thank you for it later. Promise. :-) read more

I just finished the 12 week transformation challenge and man, am I so glad I made this investment for myself! I like the versatility of the workouts and the trainers are very helpful during the time you are there. If you aren't doing something 100% right, then they come over and individually help you! I joined because after many miles and years of running, I sustained an injury that I can no longer run comfortably so I was looking for something else to compliment my Peleton workouts. Since becoming a member of the early morning crew a few months ago, I've increased my output in all categories. I am currently in the penultimate week of a two-month new years boot camp at Portland Fit Body Boot Camp and it's been the best thing I've done with my life for the last twenty years. The instructors are top notch and care about the clients and are very supportive of everyone's progress and happiness. If you need to get your ass back in shape, this is the best place to start. Cons: *Very very expensive *You don't burn as many calories per workout as advertised *There are NO other gym amenities. Boot camp classes only *INSANE termination fee. Read your contract. I will have to pay $500 to get out of my 18-month contract. A LOT can happen in 18 months that may make paying this much for a gym impossible and your only option is to keep paying or pay an outrageous fee. read more

I LOVE the workouts here, they're always new and challenging. Everyone is super friendly, from the staff to other members. You feel welcomed, wanted and supported, not intimidated or invisible. The trainers know their stuff and are great about showing you the right and wrong way to do something and give you options for adjustments or alternative movements if you have health issues. THE GOOD: - The trainers are nice, fun, energetic individuals. - The space is huge. Plenty of room for large class. - The location is great; it's near my home and in central SE Portland. THE BAD - Class length - the class is only 40 minutes. With the warm-up, cool-down and instructions this means you may get 20-25 minutes of actual exercise. Cost - The drop-in fee for a 40-minute class is $25. Similar gyms in Portland charge $15 - $20 for 60 minutes classes. Equipment - This gym is missing a lot of the essentials. There are a few ropes, kettle-bells and med-balls, but not enough for a full class. No dumbbells, barbells, or weights of any kind. The exercise routine - I've been going to boot camps for a 4-5 years and this was by far one of the most confusing routines I have ever done. The workout consists of roughly 12 different movements each of which were associated with a number and suit from a deck of cards. Each class member had to run to the instructor to pull a card from the deck, then find a piece of floor space to perform the movement. The problem with this sort of sequence is that: - It took about 5-7+ minutes to explain. That's a long time when you only have 40 minutes to workout. - It's a lot to remember. So it's easy for participants to perform movements incorrectly, or forget what's what. This wastes more time because it requires re-explanation. - With 15-20 class members each performing a different movement it's difficult for the instructor to watch and ensure proper form. Thus easier to bring on injury. This class consists exclusively of bodyweight movements. Something I could have done at home. I've been told a few times that if a trainer doesn't have the physique you desire, don't trust them. With all due respect, the trainer I had at Fitbody bootcamp looked like he could benefit from attending a few classes himself. OVERALL - If you're brand new to exercise, this may be a good, albeit costly, introduction to bootcamp style/group exercises. If you're experience, this is not the gym for you. Do not waste your time or money. You won't get the workout you're looking for. read more

I was hesitant to start boot camp when I first heard about it. I didn't think I'd ever be the person to get up earlier than I had to for the sake of exercise. I was nervous about the work out and the commitment. But I am SO glad I invested in this program (and in myself). Boot camp has provided so many benefits to my life including, but not limited to, a regular strenuous work out, more commitment to my diet and nutrition goals, a sense of community with the group and invaluable support from Emily, the trainer of Fit Body BootCamp. Fit Body BootCamp is the work out of my life. It provides amazing interval circuit training and the work outs Emily provides never allow your body to become used to any one routine, thus keeping your metabolism "on its toes." The workouts are tough but there are always modifications provided as well that still keep you working hard. In the 6 weeks since I joined bootcamp, I have lost 12 pounds, almost 5 inches and an entire percentage of body fat. Not to mention that, even though I was working out regularly prior to joining Boot Camp, I am much stronger and am maintaining great energy throughout my day. I have never looked forward to exercise as much as I do Fit Body Boot Camp. I have recommended it to everyone I know and will continue to do so. I have been a part of Fit Body Boot Camp for more than a year now. Generally, I steer clear of Yelp reviews, but feel compelled to post this, especially after reading a few of the earlier comments. First, I am a life-long exerciser. In the past, I'd spend hours on the treadmill, take 1.5 hour spinning classes and hour-long circuit trainings. In spite of time put in, I'd see very little result-wise. When I first joined FBBC, I was skeptical -- annoyed, actually -- that I was only getting 40 minute workouts for my money. Within two weeks, I knew my thinking was flawed. These are the most efficient, effective workouts I have done. I am stronger, fitter and happier than I have ever been and attribute these things to the following: 1- I show up at least 4 days a week. 2- I put the work in. No, it's not always easy, but it is always fun. 3- The trainers. They each have different styles and this keeps me and my body guessing. 4 - The people. If you allow it, you can develop a group of friends who support and encourage you and will keep you accountable. 5- Nutrition advice. Some of the previous reviews suggest that a particular diet is endorsed here; it is not. Do what works for you, but I for one, appreciate the information they provide and take what I want and leave what I don't. Thank you, Emily and Team! I bought a LivingSocial coupon for Portland Fit Body Boot Camp in November. After dreading it for a month, I started attending the 7am class. I have to say it's the best workout I've ever had. Every day is completely different, but designed so someone at any level can get a great workout. At first, I was a little reluctant since it had been years since I actively worked out. I was concerned that I would not be able to keep up with an intense class. That was a mistake. Emily lets you go at your own pace, and is so enthusiastic about any progress, that even people like me who are starting from zero make rapid progress. Aside from that, the classes are really fun. Its a great group of people, and Emily keeps everyone motivated and makes the class really enjoyable. It has to be good if I am willing to show up at six AM 5 times a week. I also had a personal trainer that I loved but I never connected enough to stay motivated. FitBody keeps me motivated, every day is a different workout routine. It keeps your body guessing and it never feels boring. I would never promote something I felt mediocre about. As a matter of fact, I felt so strongly about FitBody I now have my husband attending. I have nothing but good things to say about PFBB. I first heard about PFBB through groupon. Getting a groupon is a very inexpensive way of trying the program out and seeing what it has to offer before getting an annual contract. First of all the instructors are amazing. They keep you motivated and are able to instruct the class as a whole while also giving individual help to those who struggle with formation. They also offer simplified forms of each workout for beginners or those who have injuries. Emily does a great job of checking up on us via email and sending out motivational and informative emails regarding nutrition and fitness. You get a very good workout with fun variety for 30 minutes by a trained professional that will be aware of what's best for you. I came to boot camp back in July, i have tried many things and many classes elsewhere none of which i have stuck with something was always missing. soon as a started with my trail period i knew this was just for me, the work outs are great, the trainers are amazing, fun, and friendly. The best thing that i have experienced is the camaraderie everyone is super friendly, supportive, and inspiring. I heard one person say she has been with boot camp for many years in other cities and her reply was it was a "game changer" and i have to say i have to agree! When other things failed this has helped me tremendously! When i walked in the door of boot camp i weighed 242.2 lbs 34% body fat today as i write this post i am 204lbs and around 15% body fat! that clearly is results, they have given me many nutrition tips that has helped me get to where i am today. another reason i like this place is i have built amazing relationships with people, good, healthy, positive energy , and inspiring people! I have been working out at PFBBC for a couple weeks now and, so far, it's one of the top small group fitness gyms I've been to. The trainers are friendly, observant, knowledgeable and the workouts are structured so us gym rats can attend daily, if we want, without worry of overworked muscle groups while still getting in challenging work! The space is large enough to accommodate several people without interfering with one another and well equipped. I would recommend this gym to anyone I know, no matter what their fitness level! I ended up loving the workouts so much I immediately signed up for 1 year. Reasons I love this workout so much: 1. It's ALWAYS different! I haven't done the same exact workout yet. Changing up routine keeps it interesting and my body has responded very well! 2. Classes become community. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging. There is no competition between peers, only with yourself, and classes have people at all weights and abilities. You don't have to be rock hard to start, trust me! 3. It's effective. Point blank.
