The Friday before my appointment, the spa called to reschedule because Emily was no longer available. Her next availability was a few days later at 12:45 PM on a Thursday. I agreed to the new appointment. I arrived early on the day of my rescheduled appointment, only to be met with disdainful looks from the six women lounging around the front desk, chatting amongst themselves. After an awkward wait, someone finally addressed me, saying someone would assist me shortly. Only one person seemed to be working at the desk. When I was eventually shown to the waiting room, I received no instructions about what would happen next or where to put my new client forms. When the masseuse came to get me, it was not Emily. I asked about Emily's whereabouts, only to be told she wasn't at work that day. Furious, I returned to the front desk, where the six women looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Oh, we will reschedule you." This was the second time I had been rescheduled, and I wasn't about to let them waste any more of my time. I walked out. This situation boils down to one of three issues: the front desk staff is incompetent, Emily is selectively choosing her clients and didn't want to work with me, or they don't want to service a Black woman. The waiting room was empty, so they clearly weren't busy. No wonder this spa has such poor reviews. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt, but this experience was beyond frustrating. Why would I trust them to reschedule me again only to be disappointed? I'm still dealing with back pain and am no closer to finding relief. A separate office visit can only be billed if there is a "significant, separately identifiable" service documented beyond the procedure (AMA Modifier-25 guidance). CMS policy also states that the initial evaluation for minor surgical procedures is always included in the global package unless there is clear extra work (CMS NCCI Manual, Ch. 12). The AAPC further warns that billing both codes together without documentation is improper and considered "double billing." When I asked the billing office, they said they charge for an office visit every time and never code annual skin checks as preventive. That means patients are automatically billed for both, even when guidelines don't support it. Patients should be aware that this practice leads to higher out-of-pocket costs, especially on high-deductible plans.

I attached a photo of how I usually get my hair cut from my former stylist (out of state) compared to the haircut I received. I was assured by the lady at the front desk that one of their stylist is great at cutting short hair. At my appointment, I showed the stylist, Michaela, the picture of how I usually get a cut and she appeared confident that she could do so and even stated that pixie cuts were her favorite to cut and style. When she gave me the mirror to view the sides, it was evident on my face that I was not happy. My sides were so uneven, one side was cut shorter and higher than the other. It looked like railroad tracks ran from the side to the back of my head with how uneven and not blended everything was. I kept pointing out the fact that both sides weren't even and Michaela kept trying to fix it but was not successful and kept asking what would I like for her to do or should do...I appreciated her trying to fix it but I shouldn't have to tell her how to fix a bad cut. I was told she wouldn't charge me since I was so unhappy but she still "had to or she'd get in trouble." So, I was charged $20 for a haircut I was totally unhappy with and still had to find someone to fix it! I should have spoken to the manager but at that point, I was so ready to leave!
