Unfortunately, our visit got off to a slow start. We were not greeted when we walked in, which made for an awkward first impression. Once seated, service improved, but we were initially given silverware without a knife, something that had to be corrected later.
We started with the Beef Samosa and Cheese Naan. The samosa had a nice crispy exterior but lacked the seasoning and flavor we were expecting. The Cheese Naan was excellent, arriving hot, fresh, and loaded with cheese. It was easily one of the best items we ordered.
For our entrées, my wife and I both built Bowly-Wood Bowls with white rice. I chose Butter Chicken with all the available toppings. My bowl was good, though not especially memorable. My wife selected Lamb with lettuce, cheese, and corn but didn't care for how the flavors came together.
Bethany ordered the Paratha Smash Burger, which she enjoyed. Her only complaint was that the plate was too small for the amount of food, making it difficult to eat without food sliding around.
We finished with Gulab Jamun, which was warm, sweet, and another highlight of the meal.
The biggest issue, however, was the number of flies in the dining room. It became increasingly distracting as we ate. My wife finally laughed and said, "Desi got us twisted." We joked that it felt like one of the Old Testament plagues, but the problem was real enough that we asked for to-go boxes and finished the rest of our meal at home.
Desi Twist has a creative concept, an extensive menu, and several dishes worth trying. The Cheese Naan, Gulab Jamun, and Paratha Smash Burger were definite bright spots. However, the lack of an initial greeting, small service details, and especially the fly problem kept this visit from being as enjoyable as it could have been.
