My companion loved the Lemon Drop martini and said the sandwich was the best Po Boy she had had outside of her home state of Louisiana. The okra, which she kindly shared, was crisp and flavorful. The shrimp in my salad were perfectly cooked and the Remoulade dressing, which had a slight kick to it, was a nice accompaniment. Service was friendly and the food came out very quickly. The owner/manager stopped by and apologized for the wait. It took a while for our appetizers to arrive. I appreciate the fact that he took the time to address the wait as he did with other customers. It was most recently Palm & Pig. I tried it when it was Palm and Pig and I thought it was rather good. Hillside is located near the Vestavia City Center right next to Bob's Power Equipment, which ironically has been in that location for over 20 years at least. Hillside is located on at the end of a small strip so they have a nice outdoor space with a covered patio. It's great for a guitar player and with big heaters is even pleasant to sit out there (when it wasn't Hillside). The interior is quite large despite the small entrance. It extends quite far to the back. They have a nice little bar and a good side stage for their many live performers. In fact their very model for this restaurant thrives on live performers with "Band Inquiries Call 205-901-2225" centered on their menu! Our party arrived on bustling Friday evening.
