Shannon Medical Center should honor their commitment to care for their patients.  My provider did…read morenot fill a prescription before leaving so I was told that I had to come in to get that prescription refilled, but that I would not be charged.  I came in as requested and that doctor told me that it wasn't necessary for me to come in to have that prescription filled.  Shannon used this as an opportunity to file my insurance unnecessarily and bill me the balance.  When I called Shannon to dispute the charges, they said since I came in there was nothing they could do.  The doctor himself told me I didn't need to come in to get that RX refilled.  Shannon only has Shannon's interests at heart as I had to drive 2 hours and then be billed for something that my provider should have taken care of originally.   I am transferring my care immediately as I feel that since I started seeing them in July 2025 it has been nothing but a joke as this has just been one of the many problems I have had with them.

They are usually extremely thorough and caring and curious to your condition to help find the proper diagnosis. I love this place and all its staff. Yesterday at 3 AM I came in with strep. My test result was negative because it was too early to test positive. Dr. Hamilton was my doctor and asked what brought me in. When I said I have strep, he said, "no you don't. You have a sore throat." He did not ask me a single question of why I thought I had strep, what symptoms I was having. He told me INCORRECTLY that I did not have strep. I have no spleen. Strep is the most dangerous thing I can catch without a spleen. It would have been detrimental to my health if I had listened to him and not taken antibiotics and went home without treatment. From what I understand, a doctor doesn't like a patient diagnosing themselves. I have strep so often, I get it multiple times a year, I often know I have it before I test positive. He was not looking for the context on why I knew I had it, he didn't care at all. I didn't stand up for myself or tell him these things because he made me feel so little, he didn't ask, he kept talking without curiosity and rather with criticism, and told me that they "can't prescribe antibiotics every time I have a sore throat." There was eggsudate in my throat he refused to acknowledge. Not that he was going to check in the first place, I brought it up first, handed him my own phones flashlight, and he claimed it was just irritation. I promise you there was already a white patch by my to tonsils at this point- I had checked before I went to the ER. It's now 29 hours later and my throat is white. I have a temperature of 99 and body aches. If I went into the urgent care I would test positive in a second. 29 hours ago I had strep, and in this second I have strep. The only difference is the rapid test result. He did end up prescribing me antibiotics after he felt my lymph nodes but he did not tell me nor acknowledge that he could be wrong, that I could have strep, or that it could be anything at all! He simply said "you have one inflamed lymph node, let me send off a culture" and those were his last words to me. The inflamed lymph node by the way was on the side with the eggsudate in my throat. A nurse handled the rest of the interaction with the care and respect that you'd expect a doctor to have. I have never left a review anywhere but if Dr. Hamilton is your doctor at 3 AM, be prepared for him to let his mood interfere with his professional duties. I think that this doctor's mistake and ego could've really injured me. I can't imagine working 24 hour shifts or being woken up and expected to deal with patients. But I was scared and hurting and all I wanted was him to help me, not sing and dance and do backflips.

I fell off my backyard deck on 4/3/2020. I know I had seriously injured both of my ankles, so I…read morewent to the closest Urgent Care. Let's just say I'll never make that mistake again. When I was finally seen they sent a nurse in to take down my personal info. She had long fake nails (which is a big no-no for healthcare workers). I specifically told her we were there for x-rays. After she left the PA came in. She herself had an injured foot/ankle and was motoring around on a little mobility scooter. She looked at my ankles and, even though the right one was swollen grotesquely, said she thought I didn't need x-rays. I rated my pain at an 8 out of 10. In response she leaned over and PINCHED my ankle. Fun! Then she said that since she couldn't be sure how much was swelling from the injury and how much was swelling from my excess weight, AND that since there wasn't "any bruising", (from an injury 2 hours old) she didn't think I needed x-rays. She suspected I had "just twisted the ankle" and recommended rest, ice, and elevation. I still insisted on getting x-rays and she shrugged her shoulders and ordered them. Then the results came back, and Ms. PA Mobility Scooter came back in the room A LOT nicer. She announced that I had a broken fibula and ankle. Surprise! I'm sure glad I insisted three separate times that I NEEDED X-RAYS. So after they discovered that- shock!- I actually DID have a serious injury, the PA wheeled me to a CLOSET and said I would be getting a temporary splint on the broken ankle, and that the other one was "just sprained". Two other nurses met me in the closet and one told me, "Get up on that table, we need you laying on your belly." Again, I informed them that I had two hurt ankles. It didn't make a difference. By this point I was crying in pain and more than ready to go home. I stood up from the wheelchair, precariously balancing on my less-hurt-but-still-sprained ankle like some sort of ludicrous imitation of a stork, and leaped, one-legged, for that stupid table. By some miracle directly from Heaven I landed with my ribs on the edge and didn't break any of them. I even managed to scramble up onto the table. I pulled myself up the length of the table and lay there for the next 15 minutes while the two nurses tried to figure out how to splint me. Need I mention that these two professional medical personnel stood in the room and silently watched me claw and struggle and squirm my way onto the table without offering the slightest bit of help? Because they did. By the way, the *highlight* of that experience was when the older nurse barked, "You need to keep your foot at a 90-degree angle!", YANKED my broken ankle back, and then PRESSED DOWN ON THE BOTTOM OF MY FOOT and until I screeched in pain and began crying big, fat, kindergartener tears and thinking unkind thoughts about clawing her eyes out. She HELD my ankle at that incredibly awful and painful angle. (At my follow-up a few days later, the nurses at the Orthopedic Clinic managed to wrap my ankle JUST fine while I was sitting peacefully in my wheelchair.) The crap icing on the crap sundae was when the PA gave me my discharge paperwork. The FIRST THING on this handout- before my care instructions that told me how to CARE FOR A BROKEN LIMB- was a MyPlate illustration, advising me on how much of what types of foods I should eat in order to be healthy. I needed extensive surgery on my ankle and am currently recovering. My orthopedic surgeon Dr. Beatty has told me more than once that my fractures are some of the worst he's ever seen. All in all, I guess if your only other option were, say, a field hospital in a swamp staffed by murderous, heroin-addicted pythons in the Jumanji game, then sure. Go to this clinic. Otherwise please avoid it at all costs.

This was the VERY FIRST time I was at this Hospital ER (been there 5 times total in 30 years) that I was not treated like the typical Hypochondriac Woman. Mind you I NEVER go to the DR not even Primary Care. So, if I cast a shadow on their door it is serious. So Michael walks in looks at me and takes ACTION! Next thing I know I am hooked up to IVs for swelling / hydration etc. WOW. I actually was getting help. He was courteous, professional, personable, and matter of fact honest about what my body was going through and said the effects may last for days. This man actually cared about my health. I have never had any good experiences in an ER. This was a good one. Additionally, my friend had to go to the ER yesterday with severe abdominal and back pain and he found she had a Kidney Stone. Instead of telling her to go home nothing wrong with her. He needs a raise. Keep him PLEASE!!!

Took my dad to the emergency room yesterday. It was the BEST experience we have ever had in an…read moreemergency room visit. Got him in right away and had so much good care and attention. They ran all necessary test to make sure everything was fine with his vitals. Was very helpful and very informative on what was going on. Kept him comfortable and eased his and our concerns. Luckily he is doing better. They got him stable and we got to all go home. We all had a good nights rest which helped with blood pressure and heart rate. He is doing good this morning. If I could give this staff 10 STARS - I WOULD!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU NEED EMERGENCY CARE!!

I was put in the hospital on 7/27/12 to induce labor. My labor nurses were very attentive and sweet, I was very happy with them. I honestly couldn't think of a better group of caring individuals. Same goes for my Doctor...Dr. Henke. He is a good man, very relaxed (which makes me a little nervous sometimes) but he's down to business when it's serious. Now, here's the bad part. After I had my daughter & we all ooohed and ahhhed over her, they took her to the nursery to bathe her and look her over again. About 30 minutes later, a pediatrician came in & introduced himself and told me that while the nurse was trimming my daugher's belly button with a SCALPEL, she accidentally missed and "nicked" my daughters leg. He said she would require stitches. Now, I don't know what a "nick" is to anyone else, but she ended up having 7 stitches on her little leg. The cut goes from one side of her thigh, to the other. I was livid. WHY on Earth would they use a scalpel on a baby? They obviously have no control over their movement. Shouldn't there have been two nurses, in that case? And, the OBGYN cut her cord with scissors...couldn't they? I did address this to the Patient Rep over the phone & she told me they now have a "no scalpels around babies" policy in force. I hate that it took my daughter being injured to have that, but I am glad it's there. I am also glad the cut wasn't deeper and didnt sever an artery. The nurse personally brought my daughter to me and apologized. I thought that was very noble of her and it was appreciated. But, I am still regretful that we placed someone so special in the care of Community Hospital. After I gave it some thought, I am not sure if that nurse worked a very long shift or had just come back in for duty. I saw her at 6am and did some paperwork with her, and she was there at 7:11 pm when my daughter was born. It was after 10 when she brought my daughter back to me so I REALLY hope it wasn't one long shift. That would make anyone too tired to focus properly. My nurses after delivery...not good. The only saving grace was my night nurse, Tobey, who was the sweetest woman alive. I cannot say enough good things about her. My day nurses were very busy and didn't get me pain meds on time, resulting in me hurting. I asked for them earlier the next time knowing there would be a delay, but was told it wasn't time for another round, so I had to wait. And, again...I didnt get them on time. Our release date was more of the same. No one ever came in to take birth information, they were going to let us leave without any record of what we wanted to name the baby, etc. I told the nurse no one came to see us and she went and checked and somehow we got "overlooked". We had to do it all by mail and they didnt even send us postage stamped envelopes! not a big deal normally but the last thing you want to do after having a baby is run to the post office to purchase postage and send off letters. We just had a very bad stay. I don't think we will choose Community again if we have more children (even though I love Dr. Henke). It is just too disorganized & scary.
