I was a new patient (and from out of the area) and therefore I expected the typical routine of having to go through a full examine, consultation, x-rays, etc. This is what usually causes me to 'put-off' going to the Dentist. Although I understand the necessity, sometimes I feel it's just a bit much and overwhelming. I had a small need/concern with my tooth and Robert Hodous took me right in, addressed and fixed the problem. I was extremely impressed at the fact that he didn't push a 'new patient' work up on me and make me go through all the motions before fixing the problem. They don't lean on you while cleaning your teeth or poke you in the face or anything. One orthodontist even had sunglasses for me to keep the spotlight from blinding me. Every other teeth cleaning they x-ray your teeth to make sure they're doing well. Be sure to plan about an hour for teeth cleaning. Very friendly and professional. Not only were they scary and pretty much yelled for me to put my hands up (i raised to let them know they were hurting me) and then when i said the drill felt too hot on my teeth she basically called me a liar and i quote her words "it doesnt hurt youve been numbed". didnt even take a break to let it cool just kept drilling. for somebody whos fearful of the dentist it was super traumatizing and unhelpful. not even soft spoken when i was obviously scared. but here i am a year- year and a half later looking for new dentist who have to perscribe me medication to ease my anxiety of going at all because this experience confirmed all my fears of going to the dentist. Also not sure of the name of my doctor here but she was a woman- was also suprised whoever was assisting didnt have anything helpful to say. my friend who had taken me to the appointment told me i was brave for staying seated because any dentist saying theyre not putting you in pain when they clearly are is ridiculous! as someone with severe dentophobia i asked my friend what they thought and my friend agreed that i wasnt being irrational and they could have handled the situation better. He always tells me what he's going to do, and is calm and strong and confident, so i don't get so scared. i even laughed in the dental chair one time, which for me wasn't normal behavior at all. Plus, he really understands about money, and the lack thereof, which is a huge thing for a person like myself. His understanding is as good as his dental care, which is very, very good.
