My recent visit was promising at first, but the rain just kept coming all day long and it "dampened" my spirits completely. I stopped by the main office and got directions to the Jones Mill Dam. Since it was raining so much I gave it some time to clear up, but to no avail. This park is certainly worth checking out and it will be super beautiful later on in the Spring. The wood frogs, spring peepers and other animals will be active. On the same road that this park lies on is two other parks: Kooser State Park and Laurel Ridge State Park, so it is possible to hit those up while in the area. I will certainly make the trip out here later on towards May.

What a great spot for a hike, but an even better place for a swim, relaxing, a picnic on the grass or some sun on the sand by the water. So after we arrived we hit the trail that ran along the water while taking in the small but beautiful lake. We then proceeded to head into the woods. It was a great little hike and the trails were very easy. After we were done hiking we got the huge blanket and the cooler with snacks and drinks in it out of the car and headed over to a shaded spot under the trees. We sat in the grass area in the left corner of the parking lot and listened to music, ate, drank and enjoyed each other's company for a good while. Then after that we packed up our stuff in the car and headed down to the water and enjoyed the lake which is very clean and refreshing and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I love that they have sand and everyone looked so happy. They also have an area where you can purchase food and beverages but they also have many other great amenities which I am sure can be discovered on here or on their website. I am so glad I discovered this place. I will most definitely be stopping by again when I am in the area. Enjoy :)

I think they should move them all back towards the water so their guests can the best of both worlds with the lake view and a nice fire. The fire pits were really big and I'm concrete rings which made it hard to feel the heat from the fire unless you made the fire really big. My family camped a few sites down and their picnic table was falling apart and notified the maintenance man and he later came and removed it and brought a replacement. It would appear based off other reviews their picnic table maintenance is lacking. The campground was pet friendly and had bags and trash areas throughout the campground. They also have a dog park area to let your dog run if they need to stretch those legs. The playground for the kids was nice by the office. However, the playground closest to the pull thru sites was wooden and falling apart sadly. It needs immediate attention before next season before a child gets hurt. The boards were lifting and screws/nails exposed. However, they had a bounce pillow that our kids loved ! Paddleboats, gem mining, etc for a fee. Our toddlers did enjoy the gem mining though, so if you have a couple it's worth splitting a bigger bucket of gem goodies to mine. The bathhouses were not the best, could def be cleaner and consistently had out of order stalls. I opted to shower in our camper this time due to their condition but to each their own. They had for Oktoberfest a distillery and a band/dj come to the pavilion area which really seemed to draw a good crowd! They have golf carts for rent, which were pretty nice in comparison to others we have rented. However, we noticed a tire on our was noticeably lower than the others and thankfully had an air compressor to fill it up. I would imagine that should be done prior to renting them out to avoid flats.. it all worked out though but something to be mindful of if you rent one! You can fish the lakes and catch/release. We did see several people catch catfish and blue gills, etc so it's worth your time if you like to fish! They do have a lot of seasonal sites but everyone seemed friendly as they were preparing for Halloween events coming up and decorating their sites. The biggest downside to our visit was the beautiful lake view site had a LOT of road noise as just on the other side of the trees was the main road. It is something you will hear all night long. It was a bummer but some may not mind it. We are going to be returning in 3 weeks for trick or treating as we found a last minute reservation .. they look like they really do it up for Halloween.

We visited mid week so it was very quiet which was fine. Our second time adventuring to a place that was clothing optional. Now the pool was great! Super clean. Mandatory no clothes in the pool. The cameras were bit bothersome. I was completely unaware but I'll own that I'm oblivious in new environments so if someone spoke of them I don't recall but anyways we enjoyed the pool! Later on having some fun in the room and I'm laying on the bed which is right next to the door I mean right next to it! In all my glory on the bed I can hear people like whispering. Laughing. No big deal. Well when my door flung open and I have 3 people staring at me I was mortified. The whispering was them discussing the code which they had the code I had been given not sure if it was a universal one or not. The key pass were being issues so they only did codes no key! Anyways two woman and a man came walking in. They left very very quickly! We barricaded the door so we could sleep and high tailed it out in the morning. Aside from that mishap which is pretty unnerving to me. More precautions and safe measures should be in place! So that's why I went with the 3 stars! Give it a try it may have just been a fluke situation!

The people are incredibly friendly and you feel like a regular the first time you come. The facilities are very well kept and the people there are always creating fun activities and things to do. There are also a variety of lodging options to fit any preference or budget level. It would be nice if there was more as far as dining options since you are so far from any place to find food. We attended last before the "Bare Barn" reopened so perhaps this has improved, but the last time we were there it was just the poolside concession.

The campsite bathroom was clean, well stocked and regularly maintained. All of the employees at the trading post were friendly as well! Park rangers drove around regularly (4-5 time through the campsite a day I'd say). My only wish would be adding closure information onto the website so people know ahead of time. During our visit the main overlook was under construction/maintenance so there was no access to it. Which was a little disappointing since it looks beautiful online! But it was a short 5 minute walk out to the overlook so it was easy to get back to a different trail. (It is clear the individuals who work and manage the park take great pride in it, and take care of the facilities wonderfully!).

The Ravens Rock trail has a beautiful outlook with cool, large rock structures. And the rock city trail was super fun too! The free maps of all the trails are very helpful. Some blazes could've been marked a bit clearer and some signs for trail heads could be adjusted as well. There is limited parking at trail heads so be sure to get there early to beat the crowds. The trading post was a fun addition with Coopers Rock merch, stickers (our personal fav), some local goods, firewood, some camping supplies, and even some ice cream treats! Overall we had a really nice stay!

The owners hide behind their faith and use it as a justification to treat people rudely. From the first point of contact, the woman spoke to us rudely, talking over my husband, and even yelling. They have many strict rules (some of which are extreme, like paying extra if you have over 3 people but can have no more than 6 people). The owner charged us twice for the extra people, then argued that she didn't, until we told her we had bank statements to prove it. The deer pen is really sad. The fence is falling down and in the pen, there are several falling down sheds, the pen itself is small. The pool is not heated (and if you have child that is not potty trained, or a child that wears swimmy diapers, they are prohibited to swim), the playground is subpar, and the grounds are run down. Go somewhere else, where your money is appreciated because you will be paying a lot for nothing.
