He was very patient and approachable for any questions we had. The trail ride was 50 minutes through a scenic forest near the Trinity River. It is a very relaxing ride with very gentle horses there is a small obstacle course in the middle of the trail that makes it extra fun. Each writer is matched with an equal size horse for safety. I'd give 10 stars if I could. We had a great time on our trail ride and the team was super professional and made our time great. When we arrived we signed the consent forms in the office and were walked to the area where we got on the horses. We got a quick safety lesson and then we used their mounting steps to get on the horses. I really appreciated this because I'm very short and I was nervous about being able to get on and off safely. The trail ride was the perfect length. We went at 130pm on a 90 degree day and were comfortable because of all the shade throughout the ride. There are some large fields with no trees though so if it's super hot there will be times when the sun is too much. Our trail guide Isaiah was phenomenal and always warned us when there were low trees or areas to avoid. All in all, highly recommend. At $60/person it was also super affordable. read more

I booked a trail ride for myself and my dads girlfriend, and we both had a great time! All of the staff were amazing and the property is beautiful! We went with a group of 7 riders and two tour guides. All of the horses were very well behaved and made the ride very enjoyable! The trail had some areas with lots of trees for shade, and some open fields, and there were even some fun small obstacles in one of the fields. We were riding Pretty and Starbuck, both great horses! We would absolutely return to river ranch for another trail ride. read more

Thank God I called ahead coz they only work by appointment and they had no other openings except today between 4-5. Of course I took advantage of it ;) The lady on the phone was amazing. She gave all the info I had to know. We arrived 15 min earlier to sign waivers and stuff, we met our tour guide who apparently rides horses for over 40 yrs and also trains them. I did ride before, but it's fun and pleasure every time! I love these animals, I connect with them fast! The tour was very relaxing, felt like I'm in my natural habitat ;) My horse, Shelby and me were a great team. An hour passed by super fast, of course, it's always like that when you are having a good time. We saw so many other horses, they all looked happy and well maintained, our guide knew all of their names. Cody, Star, One Ton.. Hihi, that's all I remember. We took a Lyft to this location, which is around 15 minutes from the Dallas Farmers Market. The ranch is in a huge lot with gated entrances and quite possibly a few dozen horses at least. They offer lessons on certain days and Groupon horseback rides on other days. The email address on their website and on the Groupon voucher bounces back so the only way to connect with someone at the ranch is by phone. *I called on 3/1 at 11:42am ET, got their voicemail box. *I called again on 3/1 at 12:26pm ET, left a voicemail message telling them I had a voucher, needed to schedule a date, etc. No response. *I called again on 3/6 at 4:26pm ET and connected with someone who said she was not the receptionist but jotted my info down and preferred time, informing me she had me down but would confirm my date/time later this week. No response that whole week. *I called again on 3/10 at 5:49pm ET, left voicemail message following up on confirming the date/time. No response. *I called again on 3/11 at 4:35pm CT, left another voicemail message. *On 3/12 at 5:51pm ET, I received a voicemail informing me that there was no morning availability but that several often times are open. *On 3/13 (day we planned to go), I called at 11:15am, 12:33pm, and 1:17pm CT, no answer. We finally just showed up given that there were, according to the voicemail message on my phone, many spots left. When we arrive there were two people by the desk. We were told by the front desk person, Vanessa, that it was too wet for horseback riding, so we were really disappointed. We said we were from out of town, had a reservation, and had taken a cab here so we couldn't just turn around. At first, they showed us pages and pages of people that they had to call to cancel reservations for. It was curious that there were that many booked less than 24 hours after I got a voicemail message indicating "plenty of availability." The front desk folks were friendly and said they'd check with their guide to see if it's possible to ride. We took a walk around the grounds and returned a little while later and were told we would be able to horseback ride, so we were thrilled and appreciative. The guide was informative and encouraging and the ride itself was relaxing and pleasant for a beginner. It was just my friend, me, and three others in our group. The staff were very accommodating to our needs and luckily we didn't have to toss the Groupon or consider our cab ride a waste. The grounds are truly beautiful and the horses even more so. It was a shame that they were so understaffed and Groupon-overwhelmed! Overall, the experience as very positive and I recommend this horse park. Just make sure you keep calling to book a reservation, and there is the risk of cancellation if it's too wet out for the horses. read more

It's 2018 and I'm still thinking of Valentine's Day 2016 specifically because of this park. Texas Horse Park or River Ranch at Texas House Park (if your searching it on Groupon. They have awesome rates/deals from time to time) gave me the date of my life. Upon arrival they'll greet you and the rest of the group with a small briefing. We went on Valentine's Day so we were also handed roses. They'll assign you a horse based on your size and give you notes on how to control your new pal. You'll go for a trail ride. The ride lasted for about 45 minutes. My horse's name was Pepper and I'm proud to say she was the biggest horse there. :) The trail is through trees and open land so you quickly forget that you're in the city. They have staff riding horses in the front, rear, and middle of the guests in case you need assistance. If you're not used to riding horses you may feel discomfort in your thighs afterwards but nothing unbearable. The horses are sweet and this is a perfect date night. Fun and different. There is also a gorgeous facility onsite available for event rental. Love the design of this place and given that it's all relatively close to Audubon center and the future SMU Dallas Golf course it's a great addition to the community in the southern Dallas region. Best trails and guides ever! Shane and Chris made sure we were safe and explained everything on the land. It wasn't just riding in a circle, but I felt like a cowgirl on their trails- very impressed with their beautiful grounds. We were able to run with the horses- amazing experience. This was a really wonderful experience. This is my first time riding a horse, and it was delightful! The horses are very well trained and behaved. Shawn was our trail guide and told us about the history of the ranch. He was very funny, polite, and made sure our ride was comfortable throughout the whole hour! The ranch itself is beautiful and large and the trail ride is very organized. The ranch is easy to find because it will have a sign out front(the only thing that may be difficult is if you miss the opening on your google maps), and the office is very nice. I'm told it's a non profit organization, so if you find it in your heart, you should contribute to this great place!! The woman who helped me- who I'm so sad that I'm forgetting her name right now- called me several times to make sure she could fit my partner and I at a convenient time. We visited THP last week and it was an amazing experience! the staff is unbelievable, Sean who is the trainer and trail guide is second-to-none, he's fantastic! We wanted a different experience for our daughter who is crazy about horses and we live very close to Storybook Ranch in McKinney who is affiliated with THP but we decided to drive out to THP so she could have a different experience in terms of environment and they did not disappoint! it's so clean and pristine and it was such a wonderful time for our entire family, we cannot wait to go back again. I highly recommend it. If you go don't forget to bring cut up apples and carrots for the horses and don't forget to tip your guides! read more

I took my 9 yr old niece for her first horseback riding adventure at River Ranch. We. Had. A. Blast. Shane, our guide was awesome. My niece is very shy and was a bit nervous and he made her feel right at home. He was incredibly patient, funny and made the ride super informative. You can tell he loves his job and the horses. We also couldn't have asked for a better group of horses. And, you would never know you were just south of downtown Dallas on 365 acres of land. It was beautiful. We are definitely going back again. Excellent park for an alternative form of physical therapy. They assist in treating physically challenged or mentally ill children. The horse therapy is really helpful with kids and you can really watch them grow and gain the confidence. The staff really knows all there is to know about horse and they love volunteers! read more

Let me just say that I have been a consistent rider and a repeating visitor at the Texas Horse Park. As a matter of fact, I was really taught how to ride a horse from a beginner level to an advanced level. I freaking love riding horses and that's mainly because of this park. The reason why I'm giving them 4 stars is because they lost the man who taught me everything, Chris. Chris was a cowboy through and through. He was extremely knowledgeable and truly passionate about his horsemanship. Unfortunately, after they lost him it felt as if the level of mentorship and care dropped. My last visit I was given a young lady as an instructor and she seemed very distracted, uninterested and a bit annoyed. I'm sure that she is a great rider but I've always had an instructor ride with me and this was the first time an instructor decided to not ride and instead just stand or walk. It was also evident that she was on her phone. I thought that Shane was going to be doing the lesson with me but when he took me to the training grounds, he pretty much disappeared. At the end of the lesson I heard him congratulate the young lady for her lesson which it made me assume that it was her first time. Something that I felt it was inappropriate since I had asked for an advanced lesson. read more

Came here to the River Ranch Horseback riding and it was GREAT! the staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. My horse Joel- my horse was a sweet heart even though he was a bit stubborn. The horses are well trained and for a first time rider it was a great experience. The beginner trail was 40 dollars and it was for about 1hr.
