She told us where the town moose hangs out, confirmed that we DID INDEED see pelicans and gave us the best hospitality! The food was delicious! I had the salad with grilled chicken and it was ENORMOUS! Like a serving platter of salad with 2 perfectly cooked chicken breasts on it. The ambiance is beautiful, it's the cutest little cafe. I ate there the entire week I was visiting Walden and I cannot say that I regretted anything I ordered. I will say my absolute favorite order had to be the Biscuits and gravy!!! OMG I have never had such amazing biscuits, they were lightly grilled and that just made them even more perfect than they could have ever been. The service was wonderful as well, I wasn't too hungry, so the waitress suggest I order a side of gravy and side of biscuit and that was the perfect serving for me. Host refused to seat us at a booth as request in an almost empty restaurant making dining with our almost 3 year old that much more difficult. Potato soup, fried shrimp and server were good. Prime rib was so-so, baked potato was not done, and sweet potato wedges were greasy. We timed our drive through Walden to eat here, but won't do so going forward. read more

On the main floor of the Antler's Inn in Walden, Colorado is the rustically charming River Rock Cafe. It's arguably the best restaurant in town, with a variety of meals at different price points. The location on Main Street had parking in front as well as on the side. Our visit on a Friday evening found the restaurant quite busy. The hostess was friendly, and our server, Karen, was cheerful despite being the only server. (Like many businesses, they're having staffing troubles.) The dining room was cosy and lively with 70s rock music, but not enough noise to impede a conversation. Decor is timber and river rock, that suits this small town in North Park. The special today was a cod basket ($10.99) - two pieces of fried cod that tasted fresh, served piping hot, with choice of sides--we both selected sweet potato wedges. Our beverages were kept filled, and Karen was happy to send us off with to-go cups. We didn't choose dessert--but peach, cherry or blackberry cobblers sounded wonderful. read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Steamboat Springs. Perfect place for lunch. We shared the Reuben with onion rings ( it was National Onion Ring Day). They were beer battered I believe, not greasy at all, Staff was very pleasant and friendly. read more

We arrived at 10:45 AM. We were told by the hostess that lunch will be served at 11 and they would seat us then. We waited 15 to 20 minutes because she indicated they weren't quite ready to seat us yet that they were still serving breakfast. When she did finally seat us, I asked if we could have a table by the window and she said no, and said she did not have an available server for the window table. She also said it's going to be an additional wait because our server was still serving breakfast. I noticed that several people that were in line behind us were seated in the main dining room and had a server immediately come take their order. I asked the hostess why were there being served before us and she rudely & abruptly said to me they're not being served they're just having their order taken. I expressed my concern and was met with rudeness. We left and had lunch at a different restaurant. Note to management. If you ever find yourself lost in Northern Colorado, and don't mind a scary, dumpy looking town, stop at the River Rock Cafe. This building has to be the nicest building in town. The outside of the building is greatly deceiving, as I drove past it 3 times refusing to believe that what I was looking at was a hotel. The inside is beautiful though. The waitress insisted that the Reuben sandwich was delicious, so I ordered it. My daughter has been a nightmare with food this entire trip, so she only ordered onion rings. My Reuben was indeed delicious. It made the drive to this town feel worth it. The onion rings were given two thumbs up. Though I was totally full, we were told the Peach Cobbler and Carrot Cake were amazing, so I ordered both. Yep, both amazing. Excuse me, I need to go lay down now to digest. I look forward to breakfast here in the morning. ----- Okay, we have eaten here daily now. Today we've eaten here twice because it is the only place open on a Sunday in town. We noticed a sign as we walked in that they were short staffed and to expect poor service but didn't expect no service! We were served our salad s and drinks but after 30 minutes plus watching all the other tables being served their meals after they arrived after we did, we decided to leave this restaurant but offering to pay for our drinks. The cashier noted our orders and pointed out that our meals were JUST leaving the kitchen....she offered our unfortunate visit free of charge. We left anyway. read more

Found this little quaint place in Walden, CO in a very rustic way food was excellent. I had the half pound burger, patty, fries and bun were hot and fresh were excellent. I had a Rueben sandwich which was delicious. For my side I chose the chicken tortilla soup (for a small charge). The soup had a flavorful broth, but was packed full of celery and onion in it, too much. I wouldn't order the soup again but would definitely order the Rueben again. Breakfast was excellent. I got a veggie omelet and requested crispy bacon which was cooked perfectly when my food came out, crisp throughout but not blackened. Omelet was full of a generous portion of veggies. Coffee came with a carafe to refill. Service was good. Pay up front which I always find wierd but in the good side I could leave the second I was ready to pay rather than waiting for server to come back with card. We found ourselves in Walden unexpectedly last weekend after I-80 closed and ended up staying 3 nights! We had two lovely takeout meals from River Rock, a lunch and a dinner. Our French dip sandwich lunch hit the spot, as did our dinner of chicken fried steak and ribeye steak! The staff were kind and helpful, service was fast, and the order was well-packed! Stopped in on our way from Steamboat Springs to Grand Lake. There were only 3 restaurants on Yelp we were considering. We walked in, looked over the menu & asked to be seated. Service was good, waitress was friendly but she never told us her name . Hubby ordered french dip sandwich & fries. French dip was very flavorful & fries were crispy yet cooked perfectly! I ordered a medium rare burger with provolone cheese & a slice of bacon (no bun) with mashed potatoes on the side. Burger was extremely flavorful. I would recommend melting the cheese over the bacon. The lettice was romaine! Mashed potatoes needed a little seasoning. Otherwise, very tasty lunch! read more

Stopped by on our way from Keystone to Cheyenne for lunch. The special was Prime Rib Sandwich, which my wife and I both ordered. Excellent food, the service was great and the price was quite reasonable. Sweet potato fries were more like steak fries and cooked just right. I thought the horseradish sauce was the bomb, but a little strong for my wife. If you are in the area, we both highly recommend eating here. The decor in the cafe is very nice as well. read more

I haven't really tried that many dishes here but they are definitely tasty enough to keep coming here (I have come once or twice before). Nice old family restaurant. They have good onion rings and fries! I had a bacon guacamole cheeseburger (was supposed to come with mushrooms but I didn't want them) and it was pretty good, it did satisfy. Wish they had elk, bison, and or yak options but guess they are unable to supply that meat there. I went in the beginning of this month and was lucky enough to get a picture of one of their trees when you walk in the entrance. Got to sit next to it. read more
