Such a cute place! Stopped in driving through to Estes park. Took some updated menu photos.

On the main floor of the Antler's Inn in Walden, Colorado is the rustically charming River Rock Cafe. It's arguably the best restaurant in town, with a variety of meals at different price points. The location on Main Street had parking in front as well as on the side. Our visit on a Friday evening found the restaurant quite busy. The hostess was friendly, and our server, Karen, was cheerful despite being the only server. (Like many businesses, they're having staffing troubles.) The dining room was cosy and lively with 70s rock music, but not enough noise to impede a conversation. Decor is timber and river rock, that suits this small town in North Park. The special today was a cod basket ($10.99) - two pieces of fried cod that tasted fresh, served piping hot, with choice of sides--we both selected sweet potato wedges. Our beverages were kept filled, and Karen was happy to send us off with to-go cups. We didn't choose dessert--but peach, cherry or blackberry cobblers sounded wonderful.

If you ever find yourself lost in Northern Colorado, and don't mind a scary, dumpy looking town, stop at the River Rock Cafe. This building has to be the nicest building in town. The outside of the building is greatly deceiving, as I drove past it 3 times refusing to believe that what I was looking at was a hotel. The inside is beautiful though. The waitress insisted that the Reuben sandwich was delicious, so I ordered it. My daughter has been a nightmare with food this entire trip, so she only ordered onion rings. My Reuben was indeed delicious. It made the drive to this town feel worth it. The onion rings were given two thumbs up. Though I was totally full, we were told the Peach Cobbler and Carrot Cake were amazing, so I ordered both. Yep, both amazing. Excuse me, I need to go lay down now to digest. I look forward to breakfast here in the morning. ----- Okay, we have eaten here daily now. Today we've eaten here twice because it is the only place open on a Sunday in town. The All American Breakfast is delicious and I could eat it daily. I tried the French Dip for dinner tonight, and it is epically delicious.

Found this little quaint place in Walden, CO in a very rustic way food was excellent. I had the half pound burger, patty, fries and bun were hot and fresh were excellent. My wife had the BLT with sweet potato fries. if we are ever in this part of Colorado, we will come and visit again. Stacey is an excellent server.

My Hogback Sour Cocktail was over the moon. Made from bourbon, lemon, simple syrup, egg white, and Cabernet float. The unique blend made a great drink. I wanted more, but held back because we were hiking later. My wife's traditional slightly dirty martini was perfectly made as well. We started with the homemade chips and dip. Nice crispy chips with beautiful fresh made onion dip. Next came the Pheasant soup. I wanted to lick the bowl clean, it was so yummy. The main course for me was the carnivore plate with elk, filet, sausage, and broccoli/shallots. The elk meat was the star on my plate. Having that next to the filet mignon allowed me to taste test them in real time. The Elk meat won hands down. Not even close in my opinion. The sausage was packed with wonderful flavors, but after a few bites overwhelmed my palette. My wife had the Creamy Potato Gnocchi Bowl. We both shared each other's dishes. She loved the Elk Meat. I really enjoyed the Gnocchi, and wished it could be a side dish to my Elk meat. Service was great with Elizabeth checking on us at the right times. Tip: Ask for the postcard and the restaurant will send it out for you after you fill it out. Tip: the restaurant fills up quickly, so call ahead and get a reservation.

We stopped in during the afternoon while traveling and were short on time. One of the reasons we…read morechose this place was because it had been recommended to us by ChatGPT for its good atmosphere and food, so we arrived with positive expectations. If you are on a schedule, hungry, or just passing through, I strongly recommend having a reservation before going. Another issue was the online menu experience. Their website would not open properly for us, and the menu information we found online did not match the physical menu we were given at the restaurant. That made it difficult to plan ahead or know what to expect before arriving. The host was initially kind enough to seat us at the bar so we would not be turned away, which we appreciated. We ordered a quick meatball dish to go and were told it would be about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it ended up taking around 45 minutes. Had we been informed clearly from the beginning that the food would be significantly delayed, and that not having a reservation would place us at the back of the queue, we would have simply gone somewhere else and saved everyone the inconvenience. By the time the food arrived, we were tired and frustrated. During the wait, it was explained to us that because we did not have a reservation, other orders had to be prioritized ahead of ours. While the meal was ultimately provided at no charge, the overall experience was stressful and not ideal for travelers on a tight schedule. If you plan to visit, especially while on the road, I would recommend reserving in advance and allowing extra time. Good luck!

The delicatessens in the city are scrappy, endlessly interesting epicurean melting pots with flavors often represented from around the world. SM&S is exactly like this with yummy food specialties around the store from seafood, meats, cheeses, seedy crackers, freshly made pastas & sauces to go, soups, etc. And YES, the sandwiches are the star of the show! I've been regularly going to the Boat since the mid-90s after moving here from New York, and I was psyched to find a "real" deli serving up ultra-thinly sliced best-in-class Boars Head cold cuts. Plus, the bread is just right with a bit of delicious doughiness & chew to the texture, NOT like some other more popular main street sandwich shops where the bread is soullessly airy & fluffy, and covered in wildly inappropriate sesame seeds. Service has ALWAYS been friendly to me and my party, but I'll say that if you're looking for fake, over-the-top fain, then look elsewhere.
