Great lunch stop! I had Ruben sandwich with sweet potato wedges. Others had French dip & burgers. No one was disappointed :)

It was a mixed bag. Ate here 2x over a weekend, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Husband really liked his breakfast burrito my pancakes just tasted like a mix and scrambled eggs were super dry. Dinner- chicken and beef were good but sides and soup were meh. Not a whole lot of choices in the area so this is a good choice in Walden. read more

Had breakfast there on a Sunday recently. My wife and I both had the Denver omelette which was big, tasty and seemed skillfully prepared. Accompanying toast and hash browns were perfectly reasonable too. Coffee so-so quality but kept well refilled. Our daughter had pancakes which seemed ok as well. Interior of the cafe is very nice; clean, rustic western but stylish. Considering Walden is pretty much in the middle of nowhere this was a pleasant find and we'd definitely eat here again if passing through in the future. I think the only improvements we would have appreciated would be ketchup and jam without high-fructose corn syrup and a cheerier waitress. read more

I would not recommend going here unless you live locally. Our group (5 people) waited 45 minutes to be sat. We understood they were short staffed, but no one came to greet us or let us know they were getting a table ready for us at any point. Once we were finally sat it took them another 30 minutes just to get us water. 3 or so tables sat after us got their water within 5 minutes of sitting down. We felt completely invisible. We were at this restaurant for over 2 hours and didn't even get water refills. I understand the restaurant being short staffed, but the waitress was rolling silverware visibly instead of checking on tables, sitting people, etc. The food was ok, but nothing great and certainly not worth the time we spent there. If you are a local you're fine to go there, they get served quickly, anyone else, good luck because they don't seem to want your business. read more

Don't waste your time. Your food will be undercooked and cold. The cook will swear about how your only looking for a free meal. The manager won't do her job and the few good employees are left getting blamed for the cooks unprofessional attitude, foul mouth and poor cooking skills. If you don't like your job and aren't good at it, find one you like. If as a manager your number one priority isn't customer service, you shouldn't be a Manger. read more

Stopped by here for some lunch without any real expectations... I had their western burger special (burger with pepperjack cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and fried jalapenos... Outstanding! The River Rock Cafe comes as close to fine dining as you are going to get in Walden. I've eaten here several time over the last couple of years and while it may not be the best restaurant in the state, it is sure at the top or close to the top in Walden (see also the review on Moose Creek). Ribs are good, steaks are OK... salads are average. The chicken fried steak was superb. Worth a stop if you're driving through. Haven't tried the hotel but the rooms are intriguing! read more

Such a great spot! Great service and food. We even went up to the lounge area upstairs to hang out a while before getting back on the road. Huge fireplace, comfy big furniture--just really nice. We love this place. We will make it a regular stop! P.S. the salad is huge with tons of fresh veggies. TEXANS APPROVE! The BEST burgers in town hands down. We came in looking for some coffee and maybe a quick bite and left STUFFED! My boyfriend and I split a patty melt made with wagyu beef and added jalapeños for an extra kick! One would not expect such fine cuisine in such a small town. Located inside the Antlers Inn, the menus is extensive with chefs specials nightly. The interior has been beautifully renovated in really 1900 hunting lodge motif. Try the delicious meatloaf or the Swai fish dinner. Nice bar area with full selection of drinks. The service is quick and friendly, especially Missy and Neil. Highly recommend if you are in the area or just passing through. read more

Worst food ever. We ordered a Cowboy steak, and a Walden burger. As soon as we open the 'to go' box, the fries were cold, and seemed like they weren't cooked at all! Raw potato! Next we cut the Walden burger, to find that it was raw. Steak was okay, but not what we ordered for sure. Gas station food is the better option for dinner. read more

My dad and I grabbed lunch here as we were passing through town. We both had the country fried steak with soup of the day, beef mushroom potato. The homemade soup was a highlight - excellent! Entrees were tasty and service was good. Our only complaint: our fried pickles appetizer came out after the entree, which kind of makes them pointless, but they did taste great. Cowboy sirloin steak was perfectly done medium and well seasoned. This is what steak should be. North Park ranchers know good beef. But please upgrade your side salad with romaine instead of boring iceberg lettuce. Good service on a busy weeknight at the start of hunting season. read more

We drive up from Greeley, just to get a Walden Burger. It is a beautiful drive to Walden and a beautiful drive back, no matter which route you take. We love the food, the service is great and you HAVE to see the inside of this place it is gorgeous! We have been coming here since it opened after the Coffeepot burned down. read more

Best chicken fried steak that I have ever had! Absolutely incredible! We were behind 25 bikers. The waitress was very kind and let us know about his when we sat down. We stopped here because we were driving through and needed dinner. We received so much more than we had anticipated. I had the open faced chili burger and my wife had the prime rib special. My burger was cooked perfectly and was honestly more food than I could eat (two patties open face with green chili on one and red on the other). Both chilies were good and the sweet potato fries I had with the burger were the best I've ever had. My wife let me try two pieces of her prime rib and wouldn't share any more. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. What was surprising with the prime rib was the au jus that came with it, which was extremely flavorful and complimented the prime rib perfectly. The prices are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. If we're ever driving though Walden again, you can bet we'll be back! read more

We (2 of us) arrived for lunch on a Saturday, & enjoyed the fabulous building & decor, but the overall experience was less than enjoyable. We ordered a chicken fried steak dinner & a beef w/gravy dinner, and the waitress promised to bring our soup & salad "right out". However that was not to be: they were understaffed, and service was very poor: first we waited at least 20 minutes to order, then 20 minutes later I got up to track down our waitress to request our promised soup & salad, which arrived almost 10 minutes later, the soup barely warm. Promised ice tea refills did not arrive until after 2 requests, when we had finished our meal. "Thank you for your patience" worked once, but hearing this 3 times was only annoying: we had lost patience long before. The chicken fried steak was actually excellent, with only a modest spoonful of rather floury white gravy (thank goodness), and the sweet potato fries OK, but the veg. of the day was an overcooked pale limp medley, the mashed potato a sturdy round molded lump minus butter or cream, and somehow the featured beef was overcooked to be alternately stringy & mushy, not improved by the flood flavorless brown gravy. The best part of the beef dinner was the nicely toasted slice of sourdough bread on the top! I appreciated that the waitress "comped" our ice tea, but ... not enough: this place desperately needs another waitress or waiter, and also some significant improvements in the kitchen! read more

Great place! We had dinner there on Saturday night, and the food was terrific! What I really want to point out is the manager there. Her name was Jo, and her work ethic was amazing! They did mention on the menu that they were sorry for the limited menu at this time (training staff)*With the exception of delicious sweet potato fries our food was average and frankly tasted as if it had been previously frozen. (Even the the salad which was cold & a bit watery) I am happy to pay $$$ for a delicious meal, but not not for mediocre food.
