The pictures online are a misrepresentation of what you're going to get, so don't be fooled. I think they took a picture of their best looking unit (I saw one with a cute Western vibe) and use it to trick everyone into booking there. When there's only 1 photo, I guess that should raise a red flag. Honestly, what they're doing seems illegal to me. We were visiting Lost Maples and got a Studio room for 1 night. I'm pretty sure we stayed in room 125 and it was the only room available, despite it being the off-season (we did try to switch rooms after seeing it). The theme of the room we got must have been Wal-Mart 1982. Now, if you don't care about the pillows being pancakes on a rickety bed, the shower only being suitable for an 8-year-old, using Dollar Tree towels, linens, and a miniature toilet, plus people being able to see you undressing and doing whatever else through the busted mini blinds (no curtains here), then this place might meet your expectations. All for the low, low price of $90/night. At that price, I would expect something at least on par with Motel 6. Unfortunately, our expectations were set too high on this one. It's a shame too because the grounds are pretty decent. There's a small clubhouse area overlooking the lake, but there was already a family in there, so we didn't use that space. It was fall, so we tried to enjoy our evening drinking wine out by a fire pit. There are several of them and plenty of wood, so you can light your own and enjoy a night by the water. Bring your own lighter or matches....and corkscrew....wine glasses....hell, just stay home. In the summer, it looks like you can enjoy swimming, canoeing, and kayaking too. With a decent room owned by someone who actually cares about providing suitable accommodations for guests, you could probably be comfortable here. I'm not sure how you'd vet the room though...good luck! We're not playing Russian Roulette with our sleeping rooms anymore though, so we won't be back. Funny thing...there were some comment cards left in the nightstand, presumably from previous guests, boasting about how great the place was and how they loved their stay. What??? My brain is still hurting trying to figure that out. Where did those people stay? It wasn't here. I should have taken some pictures, but I forgot.

We took our dogs to the bark park to play and everyone was good about picking up their dog's doody. There are doody trash cans and bags throughout the resort. I also used the laundry room and it was very well kept. They have four washers and four dryers. I was able to get quarters in the office. The washers are $2.50 per load, as well as the dryers. The dryers run for 45 min. They also have a store in case you run out of ice, etc. The resort is just off the highway, close to parks, and grocery stores. We will definitely return!!

The grounds are above & beyond what you'd expect. From the minute you drive in the entrance & see the huge windmill & the flags you will know that you have entered a property that is loved and taken pride in. Jamie & B (Bianca) in the front office are friendly & helpful. They gave us easy directions to our spot & gave us plenty of info on things to do at the resort & in the surrounding area. We enjoyed talking to them so much! They were great! We drove across a small bridge in the resort into the Adults Only section & I swear I heard the birds chirping a happy little song welcoming us...lol We looked into the water & my bf said "I wonder if I can fish?! (He could & he did!) We had an end lot in the center. It was a perfect spot w a nice, sturdy metal table & 4 chairs. The area was quiet & peaceful. At night all we could see were stars...and more stars. This is the place to be for stargazing. At the time we still had our 24 ft RV & it fit perfectly. On the outside of the circle in the Adults only area there are huge spaces for larger RV's & motor homes. During our stay we walked up to the office to buy a few things & the prices were actually reasonable compared to other RV resorts we have stayed at. We loved the Adults Only pool & hot tub. We wish more resorts actually thought about the fact that there are a lot of Adults that want to relax at the pool without kids yelling, screaming & splashing them. Some of us are trying to get away for a wknd & relax. At other resorts there are kids running wild everywhere with little to no supervision. If you book here, especially in the Adults Only area, you will actually be able to enjoy a tranquil getaway. You will hear the wind blowing, not kids screaming. Don't worry though, if you're traveling w the Brady bunch you can book one of the many lovely spots in the other section of the resort. There's a pool for everyone that is also very large & nice. There you can enjoy the sounds of your children screaming & splashing with new friends! Speaking of friends, we met some of the most wonderful people on our last trip to Buckhorn Lake. At some RV resorts I have heard /read reviews complaining that long term tenants are unfriendly. Well, we found just the opposite. We met numerous people who stay at Buckhorn for months at a time and they were all so welcoming! One evening we ended up in the front "yard" of an amazing couples spot for hours. They were friends w a bunch of other regulars at the resort also. Our absolute favorite person at this resort has to be Chris! He came into the pool area our first night when we were in the hot tub. He was just making sure everything was turned off (lights) & locked up. There's a code to get into the very clean & nice restrooms. We ended up talking quite awhile. He told us all about the fun events that happen at Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This isn't JUST an RV park. It is truly a resort with plenty to do OR not do. Your choice. My bf had fun fishing in the early morning. (Catch & release) There is a fitness center & game room. They have tennis courts! There is also a really cool outdoor bar area near a big red barn for Happy Hours & Potlucks. They have an awesome theater room where they will soon be having a Super Bowl party. Every wknd they plan activities for their guests. There's no pressure to join but everyone is welcome! Chris takes care of the grounds & even stops by everyone's RV in the mornings to get your trash for you. He has the best personality. He made us want to come back bc he made us feel so welcome. I wish everyone had the kind of positive attitude that he has & loved their job as much as he does. He may never know this but he was a huge reason why our 1st visit to Buckhorn was such an excellent experience. If you ever see this, THANK YOU SO MUCH CHRIS! If you want to enjoy the Hill Country in the Kerrville area there can't possibly be another place that could come close to being as great as Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This is just my opinion though. The fact that we booked 3 more visits in advance the day we checked out is proof enough! This place books up... Apparently we are not the only people that know how great this place is. We visited Buckhorn the first time in September 2022. I decided to wait & visit more RV resorts before posting my review. I can tell you without a doubt that this resort is excellent. In comparison to others in the Hill Country it has more activities & more amenities. It is definitely more beautiful! We have stayed at other great places but there is something special about Buckhorn Lake. Go & find out for yourself! Our next booking is coming up & we can't wait! This is a unique property with a collection of early homes. We stayed in the Kusenberger Log Cabin,…read morethe original 1847 homestead at the back of the acreage. Descriptions of the home and property, while technically accurate, are a bit incomplete. The log cabin is a smartly converted dog-run to include a functional bathroom in the center. Interesting primative elements have been saved, which makes the experience cool. What was missed in all descriptions was the low clearance doorways and beaming between rooms and in bathroom area. At 5'10", I was 5" too tall. Hubby at 6'4"... you get the picture. We lost count of head bumps. For safety reasons alone, this should be mentioned. There is mention of both a loft and fireplace in description, but those should now only be considered decorative original examples and not on the amenity list as something a guest would ever safely use. The local owner has chosen corporate management. While this insures marketing and more passive ownership, I feel it sacrifices the pride and upkeep that are found in personal hands-on management. Although the fresh fluffy towels are nice, the uniformed bed linens fall short. The white on white sheets and duvet are grossly out of character and sleep very hot due to the synthetic material blend. The shower curtain and liner are too long for the low height bathing area and should be hemmed up. (Liner is a bit yuk from being just too long.) A make-ready employee did not appear to have been utilized as dead bugs were in tub and sink. Home was also dark without porch light or interior light left on. The 35 whole property is showing signs of needing a grounds keeper. The free roaming sheep are doing their best and are very friendly, but are limited in their ability to be complete. I'm hoping that a capital investment of hiring a human crew is scheduled soon to address maintenance issues. This is a special property that should be saved for future generations to enjoy.

Call after call all the hotels and motels were booked. Apparently there was a biker rally and we were doomed to drive back to San Antonio (an hour drive after a wedding! NO THANKS!). I stumbled across a website that had several rentals and b&bs, which listed the Last Outpost. I called up the phone number and was fortunate enough to reach the owner who was very nice and allowed us "Sophie's Cottage" for the evening. She asked that I call a receptionist who would give us all the details and make payment. The receptionist was a lot less friendly, but she provided the necessities including an email with a lock box key in case there wasn't anyone on the property. After driving 15 minutes from downtown Bandera we arrived to the Last Outpost. The large neighboring ranch road marker saved us from passing up the property. We drove on a bumpy dirt road unknowing how long and far it would take to reach the homes, but very quickly arrived to three houses on a nice patch of land. We were quickly greeted by some cats and roosters, then the cows, goats and donkeys arrived. Apparently the owners husband was remodeling one of the houses and he came to the house and turned on the ac as well as the TV with instructions for the cable. The house and the land was perfect! Just like the website shows, I was not disappointed in any aspect. Even taking a "bath" with no shower head was fun for the night (although not something I would do on a regular basis). My favorite thing about our stay was walking the property and admiring all the hard work the owners put in it. I must add the bed in Sophie's Cottage was the best I've slept on in YEARS! I was very happy that it was tall in height because you never know with country homes where any creepy critters may be lurking. Sunday morning a nice lady brought us breakfast in "cottage" which consisted of fresh banana, strawberries, orange juice, bacon and home made pancakes. My only complaint was after the wedding we could not find the entrance to the property in the dark. After passing the large ranch road marker and turning around on the very small two lane road was the only way we were able to slowly creep up to find the entrance. I would suggest something directly on the side of the road opposed to the carriage a little off the road along the fence line which is unseen at night. So, book a stay here for your trip to Bandera or maybe Medina river. It will be very relaxing and an enjoyable very country weekend!

They seem to be busy yet forget that customers are their livelihood. Internally, after going a BINGO game led by Sharon, we had a great time and felt better about the Park only to be evacuated on 7/4/2025 by Centerpoint Volunteer Fire Department. No follow up by ORR, no return calls even when phones were working, left several messages, sent messages on FB, comments, nothing yet they commented "all people were accounted for." How did this happen? We never heard from them. They have lots of full time residents which is okay. Yet don't seem to care about others? Not sure. Life is too short to deal with their office staff. Just a note to the relatively newer owner, Willie: if you'd up your game with the office staff, you'd have a lot more business. Everyone that I talk to complaints are the same. Not friendly, no return calls, etc. EVEN AFTER THE FLOOD!

The house is huge & very clean. 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms downstairs plus a bonus room and bathroom upstairs. One shower is handicap accessible which was great. The decor kept us busy for days, trying to take it all in. So much to see! The kitchen/dining area are huge, well appointed and perfect for large families. The bedrooms were cozy, with comfortable beds and we slept well both nights. The living room is also large with ample seating and gaming tables for the children/adults to have fun. The outdoor area is the best! The pool was perfect in every way. Sparkling clean water with an giant slide our teens had a blast on. The depth was just for swimming or relaxing, and even had a wading area for smaller children and they even furnish a few floaties, toys and beach towels too. For indoor entertainment, we had a blast watching classic vcr tapes and then switched over to regular cable programs. The have dozens of games & toys for little ones and also equipment like playpen & high chair for babies. There's also an office/library with books, computer & printer. There's a washer/dryer to use and a dishwasher too. The owner has honestly thought of everything to make your vacation as perfect as possible.
