The Texas toast was fragrant, and the flavours of the sandwich blended very well together. My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water.

I had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings with ranch...so yummy. Cons and the reason for the 3 stars...There weren't any clean tables and the menus were dirty...we saw that there was only one guy seating, getting drinks and serving. I'm guessing he was also the cook, because it took an hour and a half to get our food. Another guy showed up near the end of our meal and was helping take orders. They were obviously short staffed, but I was proud of the guys...they were hustling.

We stayed in the Caboose. Yes, it's a real caboose, but it's been outfitted with a little bedroom,…read morekitchen, and bathroom complete with a nice shower. And YES, it has central heat and air. It would sleep three comfortably with a little person in the upper berth. The accommodations were not fancy like at a bed and breakfast...but the real treat is the location. Our caboose deck was practically ON the water. Take a look at the photos to see. Note...this is not the Holiday Inn. You will see the occasional spider. You are in the country. Would you like to go tubing down the Medina River...you're set! How about some paddle boating or canoing on the lake? Maybe some swimming. Would you rather take your camera out at sunset and photograph about 70 axis deer eating dinner? You can check all these off your trip itinerary without leaving the grounds. And while it's called a ranch, they do not have horseback riding on site. They have goats, but I do not suggest riding them. The folks at Muller's Ark can hook you up with some wranglers. It costs less than going to a dude ranch...dude--$80 to $120 a night as compared to about $200 per person per night at some of the dude ranches I priced. We saw deer, armadillos, alligator gar (in the water), bunnies, cats, dogs, goats, peacocks, etc... We did go tubing. We floated on the river through the other guest ranches visiting with other folks for about 2 hours. We had to hoof it a little because my daughter saw a harmless green snake and FREAKED out in her usual fashion. But other than that...which I can't really blame on Muller's Ark--the trip was great.

You have a giant lake with canoes and paddleboats (kinda old and falling apart, but they work), a river, livestock and super friendly hosts, Steve and Patsy. I stayed in a trailer known as Mobile 2, which is HUGE. I also came with both my German Shepherds and that wasn't a problem, so long as they stay away from the sheep (my older boy used to go to herding classes). Like the previous poster Dena stated, this isn't the Holiday Inn. I didn't find spiders, but a bird nesting on my patio. It's cool to see deer come up to your trailer, along with several jackasses and sheep. I will definitely come back here in the future.

I like the fact it wasn't crowded. I ordered their tasty chicken tortilla soup & the "shareable" fish tacos. Not that I needed more than 2 tacos but I should have asked how many there were in an order. $18 for 2 small tacos? All in all, I had a very nice afternoon spent with friends.

Staff is friendly but a little on edge, the members alone are not enough to keep the place afloat by the looks of some of the rooms here. This place is dated and needs a little tlc. The dining area is nice with a beautiful outdoor seating area. The food is hit or miss depends on what your order. Breakfast was lacking and I was disappointed on 1 day and then on the following morning it was a bit better. Drinks are a few dollars more to my surprise not many were drinking from the bar. Byb and you will be ok. Golf carts are okay they have an info screen which I thought was pretty cool. My only real gripe is the thermostat in my room it kept changing or turning off by itself this alone ruined my stay here. No matter how many times I adjust it it kept defaulting to 78 degrees this "was not cool"

The Boat is a bar/restaurant decorated like you just walked in off the beach in Port A. There's tons of beachy island knick knacks on the walls, surf boards, life preservers, fishing pics, game fish mounts, etc. When you walk in the first thing you'll see is a half circle, some would say boat shaped, bar with plenty of regulars posted up keeping their drinks company. Beyond the bar there's plenty of indoor and back patio seating options, and if the weather is any sort of good I'd suggest grabbing something outside so you can take in the river view. If you're here for a beer or drink, they have a healthy selection to pick from. Beyond the regular domestic beers and mixed drinks, they feature a specialty cocktail menu of beachy libations like painkillers, Blue Mermaids, Dosaritas, pineapple rum punch, and a few others. The menu is large and offers all the fried seafood you could think of, as well as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, po-boys, and other non ocean fare. We settled on a dozen gulf oysters to start and I had one of their burgers while my wife ordered one of their salads. Everything was great! It's a beach bar stuck in the hill country, so if you're expecting fine dining this is not the place for you, but if you're craving a fried shrimp basket, po-boy, or greasy burger, you'll be fine. Service was very friendly and quick. Our waitress chatted us up on where we were from, what we should make sure to see and do while in town, and overall she did a great job making us feel welcome. Long review short, if you're looking for laid back beach vibes, there probably won't be many other choices in Kerrville than The Boat.
