We were walking distance from the pool. There were two pools for us to use; one heated and the other pool was unheated. There is also a hot tub and a slide at the unheated pool. The pool is next to the amenity center which has a gym and game area which includes pool, connect 4, Jenga and other games. Overall, a great place to take the family that is not too far from a city (Kerrville) with eateries.

We knew Basecamp was the perfect place to "get away" from our busy life. Our stay FAR exceeded our already high expectations. The cabins and glamping tents are furnished 1st class with everything you would want or need including your own hot tub, gas grill and seclusion even from neighbors. The 1st thing you notice is that it is completely quiet. The stars and planets at night are just beautiful. Add to that Guadalupe River access and the private catch and release fishing lake stocked with black bass. You cannot go wrong staying at Basecamp. We've already booked our next stay and can't wait to get back.

The pictures online are a misrepresentation of what you're going to get, so don't be fooled. I think they took a picture of their best looking unit (I saw one with a cute Western vibe) and use it to trick everyone into booking there. When there's only 1 photo, I guess that should raise a red flag. Honestly, what they're doing seems illegal to me. We were visiting Lost Maples and got a Studio room for 1 night. I'm pretty sure we stayed in room 125 and it was the only room available, despite it being the off-season (we did try to switch rooms after seeing it). The theme of the room we got must have been Wal-Mart 1982. Now, if you don't care about the pillows being pancakes on a rickety bed, the shower only being suitable for an 8-year-old, using Dollar Tree towels, linens, and a miniature toilet, plus people being able to see you undressing and doing whatever else through the busted mini blinds (no curtains here), then this place might meet your expectations. All for the low, low price of $90/night. At that price, I would expect something at least on par with Motel 6. Unfortunately, our expectations were set too high on this one. It's a shame too because the grounds are pretty decent. There's a small clubhouse area overlooking the lake, but there was already a family in there, so we didn't use that space. It was fall, so we tried to enjoy our evening drinking wine out by a fire pit. There are several of them and plenty of wood, so you can light your own and enjoy a night by the water. Bring your own lighter or matches....and corkscrew....wine glasses....hell, just stay home. In the summer, it looks like you can enjoy swimming, canoeing, and kayaking too. With a decent room owned by someone who actually cares about providing suitable accommodations for guests, you could probably be comfortable here. I'm not sure how you'd vet the room though...good luck! We're not playing Russian Roulette with our sleeping rooms anymore though, so we won't be back. Funny thing...there were some comment cards left in the nightstand, presumably from previous guests, boasting about how great the place was and how they loved their stay. What??? My brain is still hurting trying to figure that out. Where did those people stay? It wasn't here. I should have taken some pictures, but I forgot.

We were the first to arrive on Friday and walked around the place. It is perfect for families who love to be outdoors. There are hiking paths, horseshoes, table tennis, playground sets, a gazebo type area with large swing chairs. Some of the cabins had playsets, some had swings. Ours had a picnic table, swing, and grill. The cabins are quaint. Nothing grand, but for the cost, it worked. There were five of us and it was hard sometimes to get in the one bathroom for a shower. We are glad it had a/c. Make sure you bring everything you will need. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, coffeepot, toaster, microwave. Any consumables, you should bring. We loved this place. It fit us and was relaxing. We really want to get in to the Rockport cabins and try those out!

What makes this place extra special is the manager. Jamy is the gracious and hard-working. She clearly takes pride in taking great care of both the Inn and the guests. We had a couple of scheduling problems and Jamy was willing to work with us, for which we were very appreciative. The Carlton Club Inn is located only a few hundred yards from the Guadalupe River and about 1/4 mile from the 1011 Bistro. The beds were very comfortable, the linens were high quality, and the bedroom curtains were heavy and lined so they kept light out of the bedroom very well. There is plenty of off-street parking. The Carlton Club Inn was a real Godsend during a time when we were between homes. We could not recommend it more highly and would happily return to stay there again. Thanks, Jamy, for sharing your little slice of Heaven on earth with us.
