Get here ASAP!!! This place is great, to put it mildly. It's not cheap, but you only live once. Great room and breakfast. Amy is a great host. You may also meet Granny and Martha. All the staff is great. Coffee and tea areas are ready no matter when you get up. Fresh cookies waiting on you. Then breakfast- wow. Actually a bed and breakfast. We stayed in the Sunrise and Sunset rooms. We had the full upper balcony to ourselves. If you get the chance, book it. Also book for a cheese and fruit tray. Just WOW. It was lunch one day. We could not finish it. I cannot fully express how great the setting is and how wonderful the view is from our rooms. We really enjoyed our two night stay during the Pedernales Falls wine pickup party. Very convenient to the activities. Our quarters were one of the smaller, free-standing "cabins". Very comfortable and enjoyed sitting on the porch with a great view. The included breakfast was good. We got to experience the full breakfast on Sunday morning and the continental breakfast on Monday morning. Both were good at a level you would expect from a place like this. All staff were accommodating. It's a very peaceful setting...nice and quiet. It's a few miles into Fredericksburg, but that's OK to get the rural effect of Rose Hill. We will definitely return, in fact, my wife is planning a stay there with the "girl friends from the Dallas area. It seems a bit pricey, but when you consider any accommodations, you get what you pay for. I recommend Rose Hill Retreat. read more

So this would have been our 2nd time staying at the retreat and it is a lovely place with lovely rooms. The food is also amazing. That being said - we called 4 times on Tues 6/3 to cancel our reservations for 1 overnight 6/8-6/9 because our daughter got covid. Not only was it not canceled, but we were charged $395 for a 1 night stay (effectively paying for 2 nights but only getting 1). When I spoke to the owner, Amy, I told her that we had canceled last week and asked why our card was still charged. I was told that the cancellation policy is 10 days in advance. I informed her that we were not told that at the time of cancellation nor did we receive a cancellation email. Had we known about this policy, we would have given the reservation to my MIL, who was currently in the hill country. She stated that it is on the original bill as well as the cancellation email (we did not get any cancellation email). I asked her to foward me the cancellation email she sent. I am still waiting for that. Very disappointed in both the communication as well as this policy. Emergencies happen, so should compassion. $400 is a lot of money for 1 night. As charming as this place is, we will not be going back and will not recommend. read more

We've stayed here three times. HIGHLY recommend- beautiful views, lovely service, gourmet breakfasts! We've stayed in three different rooms on their property and they've all been adorable. They have a delicious daily hot breakfast for guests (be aware that it's not an a la carte menu). Some examples of what we've had are: -Crepes with grilled veggies and a side of fruit -Waffles with yogurt, bananas, and granola, side of bacon -Egg scramble with potato hash They also have OJ and a coffee station (their coffee is 10/10). In addition, they have an all-day hot tea station, sodas, water, and chocolate chip cookies. I think on certain weekdays they have a more continental style breakfast, which I've had in the past and is also delicious. Our favorite part of our stay is their porch on the main house. Sweeping views of hill country, lots of tables for enjoying breakfast, an evening bottle of wine, or a board game. Kind staff. We'll continue to come back to this property- highly recommend!!!! read more

We had a nice stay at Rose Hill. It's not far from the winery where we are members and that was the main reason we stayed during this trip to the Berg. We had a rain storm during the wee hours if the morning and the electricity flickered for a few minutes, but kicked back on quickly. I sleep with sleep apnea machine and that's the only reason I noticed. It's very quiet and peaceful because the cabins are far removed from the hustle and bustle. A scorpion found its way in under our front door the morning we were checking out and I'm glad my husband noticed and I didn't step on it. We did notice that the front door needed flashing, so I'm sure that is how the critter found it's way inside. The breakfast was good and the man who waited on us was very nice and talked to us for a long time. read more

Without a doubt, this is the finest B&B we have ever had the pleasure of patronizing. The location, customer service, attention to detail, and mouth-watering dishes were jaw-dropping. Arriving on a Saturday, we were met by "Chris," the general manager, who gave us an extremely warm and thorough tour of the complex and all the fascinating amenities that come with a reservation. Warm cookies awaited in us in the bar, along with other assorted drinks. We stayed in the "Hidden Hideway," one of Rose Hill's numerous cottages and were stunned at the feel and atmosphere of our room. We immediately felt relaxed and refreshed...after only minutes! One does have the option of eating at the restaurant or going out, but you must tell the staff beforehand as all the food is made from scratch. However, their chefs know how to make absolutely delectable dishes that will make the stay worth it alone. The soup we had for dinner on Sunday night (made by the owner, Patty) was unbelievable! Breakfast is a treat at Rose Hill and their house specialty - Eggs Benedict - lived up to all the hype! Prepared to perfection, the dish was savory and filled with flavor, leaving me lamenting the fact that it would soon be devoured and but a memory. Get there early enough to get a seat on the outside porch as the view if the BEST in all the Texas Hill Country! Bottom Line: Chris and his staff will take fantastic care of you. However, be sure to book reservations as you cannot enter the property unless you are a guest. Reservations book quickly, so don't delay!! My husband surprised me with a birthday getaway. This was our first time at Rose Hill Retreat. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner, Amy, and she was so accommodating. Our cottage overlooked the beautiful flower garden, which was bustling with butterflies and hummingbirds. And it was so quiet and serene. In the evening you can also watch the deer and if the weather is clear the stargazing is amazing. It was a wonderful experience and we definitely recommend! read more

The B & B resembles an African Savannah Manor overlooking the breezy, subtle vistas of the Texas Hill Country. - a rocky terrain of low-lying oak trees on rolling hills. Great place to get your nap on. Just outside of Fredericksburg (and thus about an hour and fifteen from Austin) Rose Hill is a great getaway for a weekend or retreat. Room rates run from $135 - $239 depending on accommodations and time of the week, and it's well worth it. Austin's, the on site restaurant, is open to the public (make reservations before you go) and the menu is prefix for 40 bucks, and changes weekly. Lots of local flavor utilized from local farms and Rose Hill's own garden - like a true New England, Euro or Napa B & B. Of the five times eating here, I have never been disappointed. COME HUNGRY, however - it's a lot of food. So much you may just want to book a room to delay the long, dark, food-coma drive back to civilization - peppered with cracked-out deer, running towards 'the light.' Besides being the top notch place to eat and stay in this remote area, the best part of Rose Hill are the hosts, Robert and Patti (who assists award-winning Chad Fry in the kitchen), who removed themselves from the San Antonio rat race to create the dream life. They're a blast to talk to, hilarious, informative about the area and take great pride in their proprietorship. A true find where one feels instantly welcome...as it should be. read more

Rose Hill Manor is the quintessential luxury B&B! We were recently gifted a night here with dear friends and had a fantastic experience. There is a complimentary wine tasting at the Pedernales Cellars Winery next door upon arrival. A three course breakfast is included with your room and on weekends, a three course dinner is included. Keep this in mind since prices are higher on the weekends. Our room, in the main house, "The Sunrise Suite", situated upstairs, has a sitting room and half the entire upper balcony. A flat screen television in the large bedroom and a triple sheeted king size bed, lovely bedding and pillows, a bathroom with fluffy towels, bath gel and soaps, a microwave, coffee maker and coffee, small refrigerator and large comfy chairs round out the long list of amenities. Before dinner we sat on the balcony, enjoyed the amazing vista and mused about life while sipping wine and watching the sun go down. Dinner was fabulous with a salad of mixed greens dotted with cranberries, walnuts and bleu cheese, stuffed quail and veggies, and a delightful vanilla creme brûlée for dessert with coffee. And of course more wine and delicious port. We were full, boozy and very spoiled by bedtime! Breakfast is from 8 to 9 a.m. and you will turn in your three course choices the night before. I loved my first course, a lovely fruit dish and gluten free muffin with a dark chocolate glaze created with Namaste Gluten Free flour. Had I not already fallen in love with Chef Joseph, this would have done it! A delicious sausage and egg dish and coffee made breakfast almost two meals for me. If you love to be pampered and eat fabulous food (and who doesn't?) this is the place for you. The expansive property is stunning and you will laugh with the owners, Robert and Patti ("Red"), and get to know the fantastic staff. Completely amazed at the attention to detail. The process from booking a room through checkout was flawless. We booked the Lavender suite inside the Manor (There are cottages on the "campus" which you can also book) was absolutely beautiful, decorated with antiques and a balcony view overlooking the meadow. As it was my wife's birthday I arranged for them to have a cheese tray in the room. Pedernales winery is probably less than 100 yards away. We purchased the "light dinner" which consisted of their homemade Crab cakes. We lived in Maryland and I have to say these were the best cakes we've ever had! The staff were warm and friendly and made you feel like family. We are looking forward to staying again! read more

My partner and I stayed at this delightful small inn with our dear Texas friends on our road trip to discover the Texas Hill Country together. Totally recommend staying in one of their four "Herb Garden Cottages": we loved the Rosemary cottage. The sweeping country views from the deck were magnificent, where I spent most mornings reading a book and sipping good filter coffee. Breakfasts were hearty and delightful. One evening during our stay, we enjoyed a formal dinner in their restaurant. Service was super friendly all the time - we were made to feel right at home. Several wineries are located nearby (one, right next door, which we walked to!). We rented a limo service to take us to wineries, and this can easily be done by the helpful concierge staff at the inn. Visiting the nearby town of Fredericksburg is a must, with many high quality shops, galleries, and restaurants. Further, going to see the "Texas White House" on the L.B.J. Ranch (a U.S. National Historic Park), was another highlight of our visit to the region. As a rural break from Dallas-Ft. Worth, the Rose Hill Manor comes highly recommended as restful place to stay in the heart of Texas Hill Country. read more

We had a lovely time at the Rose Hill Manor. The only reason we're not giving it five stars is due to lack of WiFi in the room. The room, grounds, and food were great. We stayed in the Library Loft. It was a huge room, with a wet bar, microwave, and fridge. The bathroom had a huge jacuzzi tub, or a bath/shower. It also had a vanity, which I loved. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was very soft. We had breakfast delivered our first morning, which was delicious. The second morning we had breakfast in the main house, which was also great. You don't get to pick the breakfast menu, but it's included in the stay. You can access WiFi down at the main house. There's also a large book selection, and a small DVD selection to watch in your room. It is about a 20 minute drive out to Fredericksburg. The staff was pleasant and helpful. This is our second time at Rose Hill Manor and I think we enjoyed more this time than before. The staff is fantastic. The owner is personable, accommodating and just a pleasure to interact with. We always stay at the Oak Grove Cottage and we always arrive very late. There were cookies waiting for us, a nice note attached to the key, and great follow-up. Chris called us while we were travelling to make sure we were OK and if we were on schedule. I appreciated this follow-up. I can't say enough about the views and the food!!!!! Unless you really want German cuisine, there is no need to go into F'Burg for dinner. Dinner was fantastic every night-which is what we expected since breakfast is unbelievably great. We have stayed at many B&Bs throughout the country. Patti and her team exceed every expectation and I don't think it gets any better, anywhere. We loved staying at the Rose Hill Manor. We try to return each year on my wife's birthday. The accommodations are upscale and so are the breakfasts. The hosts are always welcoming. We were there in July 2020 and they were going well beyond what precautions the CDC recommends. They also were delivering the breakfast to our cabin and they were delicious and of huge portions that we saved leftovers for lunch. Last minute anniversary weekend getaway at Rose Hill Manor -- makes you forget time and remember why you did marry that guy after all! Great service at check in, during our stay, and at check out. Lovely grounds to wander around, and you can walk to Pedernales Cellars from the back lawn. Loved the llamas, deer, bunnies, hummingbirds, and all of the scenery. Sitting out with a glass of wine looking down across the pasture to the archetypical Hill Country views is pricelss. We stayed in the Library Loft & it was clean, quiet, well appointed with all the luxury you can stand and so many books to read. We actually ended up reading part of the time we were there, it was just so relaxing. There is a "private" downstairs patio with no view because you're tucked behind the Carriage House building -- would have been nice, but it was a bit too warm and there's no breeze because of the building and the wood fence. Maybe in the late fall or early winter you could sit out. Next time we return, I'm voting for the Hillside Cottage -- because I am a patio/porch girl. Only issue (and this is really nit-picking): I didn't tell Patty on the phone that it was our anniversary (27 years), but I did tell the gal at check in (and I'm so sorry I do not remember your name & you were so helpful). Yet there was no acknowledgment of our anniversary at dinner that night (a glass of bubbly would have been nice) or perhaps a split of wine in our room when we came back the day, etc. Anyway, like I said -- that minor, minor oversight will not keep us away the next free weekend we can make it up to Stonewall. The B&B really does mean breakfast -- wow -- if you go to the main dining room between 8 & 9 am you get a three course breakfast with fruit bread or pastries, a fruit bowl or smoothie, and an egg dish (benedict or omelet) cooked to order. You can also have a continental breakfast delivered to your room in a picnic basket for free or pay $25 to have the 3 course breakfast in bed. Great food & service. We had dinner at Rose Hill on Friday night -- lovely 4 course meal for $39 per person plus wine -- delicious leek soup, lovely caprese salad, great savory rolls, perfectly prepared lamb chops & truffle mash potatoes, and a gourmet strawberry shortcake for dessert -- I was so full, I just ate the strawberries and cream anglise. Absolutely divine! Again -- only a slight issue -- the wine we ordered (a Sebastiani Zin) turned out to be a 1999 Zin, which is a bit old & the cork shattered when it was opened. Wine was drinkable after it was decanted, but in retrospect, we should have sent it back. Other wine issues -- too small a decanter to properly decant, no vintages on the wine list, wines aren't stored particularly well in the hallway, and wine service is a little rough around the edges for such a fine dining experience. However, the servers are very attentive and efficient. Patti - I'd volunteer to come be your sommelier anytime! I can hang out with the llamas! read more

I recently stayed for the weekend at RHM with a girlfriend for a much overdue catch up. The service was fantastic and the building well kept. We rates in the Sunrise Suite (which like the Sunset Suite) has access to a wonderful large upstairs balcony with comfortable lounges. We spent both evenings outside looking at the view over bottles of champagne. We did done at the restaurant for dinner both evenings. The first night we were wildly impressed! Our waiter Steve was overly attentive and was very generous with his pours on the wine pairing. The food the first night was also incredible so we had high expectations the second night. We did not care for what they were serving so we were told we could pick a steak or crab cakes instead. What they didn't tell us was that there would be a $25 up charge. My only complaint about this place was the extra charges. They included a tip both nights without telling us so I tipped the waiter with cash on the side. They also charge you $25 if you want them to bring your breakfast to your room (we didn't mind paying this because we were informed of the charge). The walls are also pretty thin and you can hear your neighbor coughing, etc., but I think that's pretty standard with any B & B in an old house. Another neat feature of this place is the books that are everywhere and there are tons of DVDs that are available for borrowing. On the town of Fredricksberg, unless you are a huge fan of German food, I would save time and just focus on the incredible vineyards! Downtown Fredricksberg is full of little boutiques full of cheap clothes and jewelry. It's definitely a tourists trap. The vineyards nearby, however, are really great! Do not leave without trying Becker Vineyard. Overall, I would absolutely stay at RHM again, and I would recommend it for a romantic weekend or an overdue catch up with a girlfriend! read more

My wife and I spent two nights at Rose Hill Manor this past weekend to visit some local wineries. Our experience was top-notch from start to finish. We we warmly greeted and given a brief personal tour. Stayed in the Lavender Suite in the main building. It was spacious and comfortable. Saturday morning, we had an early day's start but the chef graciously had fresh-baked goodies ready at 7:15 am! Wine selection is excellent. Setting is serene with a great view of stars at night. Four-course pre-fixe dinner with wine pairing was very good, but service was a bit ill-timed, and they overcharged us, with bonus truffles at meal's end. A pass for free wine tasting at Pedernales winery nearby was a nice touch. The only complaint is the constant background music: loud, droning, and intrusive. After two days, we wanted to scream! husband and i stayed for the night for our wedding anniversary. it was definitely beautiful and we had a nice time. the only qualm i have is about the breakfast. i suppose because of how it's written on the website it sounds like an elaborate 3 course breakfast, but i suppose my expectations were too high. while it was good it wasn't what i was expecting for the price. a simple bowl of stewed pears with almonds or pecans, there was also a piece of plastic in the bowl i grabbed. not the worst thing. small piece of banana bread and a frittata. i don't like being picky but i am picky about food and was really excited about the breakfast. we stayed in the lavender suite, which was nice, a good view. we still had a nice time and the people there were friendly and accommodating. read more

It is a beyond gorgeous place with wonderful smelling air and nice views. The staff is very attentive to your needs, but in our last visit I felt somewhat disappointed. It was supposed to be a nice 6 month anniversary trip for us. On the first day, though, after eating their 4 course meal, I became vehemently sick. I mean violently. It was obviously from the food, but there is no way for me to prove if it were from my own body not liking rich foods, or if it were in fact food poisoning. After thinking about it, and how absolutely terrible it was, there is no way it was just from it being too rich. I threw up every single thing I had inside me (a total of over 15 times... yes, I am serious, over 15 times full force, not including diarrhea) over a span of 6 hours. I couldn't even keep down water, and at one point managed to tell my husband, "I might need to go to the hospital." My husband went to tell them I was feeling sick and received a banana and tonic water. It was nice, but I could not use either because nothing was staying down. I wish I can explain to you how bad it was - I had never had a stomach illness so absolutely terrible in my life, and I am a person that handles being sick very very well. The next day I could hardly stand or walk around because my whole entire stomach and lower back were extremely sore from throwing up so much. By that time, my husband had told them I really wasn't feeling well and I had thrown up in the bathroom. They came by to talk to me and clean the room, which was sweet. I told them that I "think" it was from the richness of the food but I was not sure, but the food was delicious. I couldn't talk too much because talking about it was making me feel sicker. They cleaned up and left the room. The rest of the day I just laid in bed. The day after that, I was well enough to sit up for a long while, but still didn't feel well. We left that day, and they asked how I was doing and seemed concerned. I guess what bothers me is at no time did they ever offer compensation. Its true, I cannot pinpoint exactly what made me sick, but I did not feel ill whatsoever until an hour or so after I ate. Sure, I "ate" their food, but it all came back up an hour later and we paid money for that. They should have at least offered some sort of compensation at some point. It made me sad that they did not. Even now, it is almost 4 days after becoming ill and I am extremely tired and can't do much beside lay down. If it were just from the food being too rich, I would not be this terrible. Trust me. So... it was a beautiful place, but needless to say we probably will not come back. Good costumer service would at least offer compensation of some sort, especially for the price you pay. read more

My fiance and I fell in love with Rose Hill Manor when we visited Becker Winery nearby. We are getting married in September 2012 and have family flying in from all over the country, even from the U.K. When we spoke with the owner, Patti, she completely blew us off and was actually quite rude to us when we asked if we could rent out the entire facility to house our family during our wedding weekend. Not only was she snobby and rude and acted like she did not need our business, she implied that we would ruin her perfect B&B by staying there and put ridiculous stipulations on what we would have to do and pay to even dain to stay there! We are in our late 20s and 30s, not teenagers looking to trash your place, thank you very much While this place may be beautiful and in a great location, the owners and managers are anything but that and I will not even stay here at this point if my fiance and I were coming by ourselves. Way to make wedding planning a total bummer and even more difficult than it has to be. We did not want any part of our wedding to be at your establishment, we only wanted to use it for what it is - a bed & breakfast. Maybe we should have never mentioned the word "wedding" in our dealings with these people but all we wanted to do was be guests. They made it clear that they have quite enough business and they do not need to book out all of their rooms 11 months in advance. Nobody likes guaranteed business from people paying up front, right? read more

Leaving our 5 month daughter to get on a plane was really unappealing. Lucky for us we decided to spend our anniversary weekend at Rose Hill Manor instead. This is such a romantic and relaxing escape. We stayed in the Jasmine cottage, and loved the foggy views (it was January) and absolute quiet (did I mention we have a baby?). We had planned to have dinner our first night there. It was so tasty that we asked to come back our second night as well. We never did make it over to the winery next door, which is kind of ridiculous since you can literally stroll over. We are planning a return visit for spring to take in the area wineries and wildflowers. Rose Hill is my perfect idea of a B&B: very attentive hosts when you need something, and seclusion when you want to be alone. Beauty and quiet, only a short drive into the hill country. read more

Wife and I stayed here for an anniversary a couple of years ago. We had a private cabin near the main house. Even though it was January and cold, the place was beautiful and secluded. We had a multi-course dinner our anniversary night and breakfast the following morning. The dinner was amazing. Great service, romantic ambiance, delicious meal. Breakfast was served in our cabin and was waffles and sausage. The poor waiter brought it on a tray and set up our table in our cabin even though it was sub-freezing outside. The food was fantastic, service amazing. The only negative was the bed in our cabin had a low spot in the middle that made it uncomfortable. We would definitely stay here again: the wait staff was friendly and helpful, the food delicious and it was a great, romantic getaway. read more

My husband and I decided to book a third stay for October. He booked it over the phone with Patti, requesting a Fri./Sat. night stay. Somehow, there was a miscommunication , and Sat./Sun. nights were booked. It is word v. word as to who caused the mix-up. 2 weeks prior to our trip in October, my husband's mother passed away unexpectedly and tragically. We completely forgot about our upcoming trip and the confirmation email went unchecked due to the chaos. We returned home from the funeral less than 10 days before our stay. We called to confirm our reservation on Fri,, only to be told that the reservation was for Sat./Sun. and could not be rescheduled or canceled under any circumstances. We would be charged the $500 regardless, unless the rooms could be re-rented at the last minute. Neither of us could get Monday off of work at the last minute, because we had just taken time off for the funeral and arrangements. I talked to Patti and told her of our circumstances, and never once did she offer her condolences. Instead, she said that it would be unfair for her to be out the money for Sunday night ($219) due to our circumstances. She said that she should not have to lose money, that a lot of her customers have stayed there multiple times, and that exceptions cannot be made. I asked her what if the guest that made the reservation were to die within the 10-day window, and she replied that he would still be responsible for the charges. When you make a reservation, it a contract--THE END. She never once gave me a glimpse of compassion or understanding. Even though this a small and local bed & breakfast, it is ran like one of those heartless large corporations you hate. It was made very clear that our continued business and loyalty is not valued. If you stay here, make sure to read ALL of the rules prior to your making the reservation (if making it over the phone, ask her to read each and every one to you). Money is first and people are second. With only a little compassion, we would have been loyal guests for life, and now we will never stay there again (and we spend over $550 when we stay).
